I know it has many openings for abuse, thats why I posted. I've seen it many times and it's a good idea. An experience points gain from dueling and pvp.

Here it is

Duels: A point system.
5% EXP from winning, 0-1% for losing, based on how much damage you were able to deal. This however will fail if it is more than [insert your vote here] Anything more will give you 0 exp.

PVP: same as dueling, however you will get nothing if you lose.

I excluded TW because all the maps are widely controlled by 1 faction that has high levels on all servers, and I would rather not help them further.b:angry

Please everyone tell me where a hole is and help me improve the idea so that it is at least 99% abuse proofb:victory

That will be easily abused. Anything similar to this concept is easily abused.

    Example:
Player A: hey player B, lets trade kills.
Player B: ok. 1:1 ratio. I go first.
    Player A: sounds cool
    ~10 minutes laters~
Player B: cool, I got 1 entire level from a few duels
    Player A: Lets continue.
    ~few hours later~
Player B: Thanks, Im now level 100, with no effort at all!
I was early taught to work as well as play,
    My life has been one long, happy holiday;
Full of work and full of play-
I dropped the worry on the way-
And God was good to me everyday.

^ 2 simple fixes for that

    Maybe a cooldown for this?

Maybe no exp at all. Spirit instead.

    If it's sprit instead:

    100 Spirit for victory
    50 Spirit for defeat

No matter what the reward, it will be painfully easy to abuse.

That said, I see no reason why people should be rewarded for dueling.

True, but if it's spirit instead, it won't be as hellish to level up your skills. I know we all hate that.

    This.

it's hellish maxing out skills because maxing out skills isnt supposed to be a stroll in the park. it's supposed to be a product of hard work and dedication.

When Scarlet Fruit was added they broke that rule of hard work and dedication.

Your idea of spirit or xp is flawed quite a bit, but the idea of duels becoming more important interests me. I used to play a game where dueling with other charecters would get you 'titles' in [brackets] like [Defender] or something similar. Those titles didn't do anything interesting, but wouldn't it be cool if they did...? Like just 1 def point for [Defender] or something little, along with the title.

Titles would be fine - my last MMO had the same thing. Different titles for the different classes based on duel 'points.'

Gaining any actual benefit from the titles is still a bad idea in my opinion. Even a tiny reward would still be abused.

I mean a one-time reward that would only be there as long as you had that title. That way, clerics could get def, bms could get atk, something like that.

doesn't mean it should be broken more. recognition sure. experience/spirit/other miscellaneous advantages i disagree. maybe other people just arent like me, but the satisfaction from a duel is in its own reward for me. as for PVP, you get drops from time to time, which is your reward.

and with the addition of bh, anni packs which leads to a massive inflow of oracles, i dont think something like this needs to be implemented.

TY morganna, I love dueling but I don't like to waste my time on something that has nothing for me. That's why I'm trying to improve this idea. Even if I got no exp, rep, or spirit for it, I'd like to get something at the very least.

1 thing this thread has shown me is that people have too high expectations. No matter what the suggestion there will be abuse somewhere. There's abuse in everything, in and out of game. Decreasing abuse is fine but dismissing an idea because only a little bit of abuse exists makes you a dumbass.

True but if u dont like wasting your time on things that have nothing for you, the two feelings conflict.

The only way I could see this work is if it was SP and was negligible with the same rules as a Friendship Quest -- one per day. The same way the daily race gives you a bit of SP for finishing, which people don't complain about because 2k SP isn't really that much. And with it only being available once a day, it makes abuse hard, because...who would abuse a system for a few thousand spirit a day? The people that are hard up for spirit aren't lacking just a few thousand, but instead hundreds of thousands of SP.

Although the titles interest me more, because getting SP is something only you can see. Titles are something everyone can see, sort of like bragging rights. I think someone should make a suggestion thread about that coughMorgcough

that would entirely depend on how you define "have nothing for you". playing PWI has nothing for you. unless you happen to be employed by it or are a shareholder.

to me, the experience, exhiliration, drops (and the occasional QQ) is enough reward for me. like i said in my previous post, i dont think a need to add actual tangible rewards to duels are needed. most people dont duel for that sake anyway.
