Amp, Purge. Normal mobs?

So, I've seen this in a couple of threads.

Using amplify damage on normal monsters.

Now I've never even thought about doing this. I always amp on bosses (well, unless I'm stuck chainhealing) and that works lovely.

But normal monsters go down very quickly, usually I either throw an ironwood, or throw a couple of venomous (alternate monsters, obviously)

Do we just start getting huge number of HP at some point? Or is it only when soloing elites, or.. well what, really?

Purge. I've not managed to time a purge on a normal mob either - nor am I sure which bosses need it. I'd be happy to throw purge into my fox-fuddle-amp-defox cycle, but don't know when.
Very few bosses seem to bother with buff icons.

No need to amp monsters unless theyre like mag resist. People who do it regularly on normal mobs are just wasting time and mp switching in and out of fox, that can be spent nuking and killing way faster.

Basically, the only real things that ever need amp = bosses and magic res monsters. Purge youll only need in PVP/Bosses.

That depends on what you're killing. I wouldn't use purge on normal mobs because that means you're going fox after the fight starts, typically halfway into the fight. When you amp however, the cooldown on fox can be eaten when moving from one mob to the next. You do lose the 60-300 mana (depending on fox level) switching back and forth, plus the max mp reduction which can potentially cost you some as well, which makes it less mana efficient but it can be faster. It will depend on the mob though, it takes about 2.4 sec with some moderate channeling to amp and leave fox. A kill needs to take atleast 12 seconds (so, it needs to live for 2 ironwood basically) for amp to be worthwhile.

I've found amp to come in very handy against elite instance mobs if doing a bh with a squad that happens to be light on DD. For normal everyday grinding....doesn't seem worth it

Amp would be good if you are grinding in fox form. Though, it is a rare case. Amp can make up for the damage difference between fox and caster form.
