What is a private server and is it legal?

Hi everyone

I was on another socal game earlier, and was reading a post of someone who plays PWI in a private server,I've never heard of them before. I was wondering what they are, and are they even legal under PWI's ToS?

    Theyre an illegal rip of the games base coding and design, in which a group of people A. use the games own engine, or B. emulate it to make their own version of PW.

    Theyre copyright infringement cases, and should be taken very seriously. Do not play them.

    ^^ This + you havent really a clue what you are downloading when you get the client, spyware, keyloggers etc etc .. risky at the best of time

    Ahh, thank you everyone. I had a feeling this might be the case but did not know for sure. I shall be sure to stay away from them.

    Private servers are illegal and wrong as they completely disregard the livelihood of the people who made the game. If you enjoy a game you should play a legitimate version.
