Someone please refresh my memory. Why must we type at least ten characters before we post? I know spam could be an issue, but we already have to wait 30 seconds in between posts. b:shocked

It's probably just part of the forum coding. Forumotion.com's free forums also have that requirement.A B and C, abandoned but controlled.

That's my point. If you use whatever Forumotion uses, your forum will have the 10 character minimum requirement. If PWI's forums use coding from another source, maybe their source had that requirement.
There's a very low number of forums out there with completely original coding. Even Gaia uses PhpBB.A B and C, abandoned but controlled.

With the limit in, we type "10char" after our post or, if it's particularly short, "10characters", plus or minus the black text. Since everyone knows the limit I've long since given up on the black text part.
Without the limit we don't. Not a big difference. Although if we're just adding 10char anyway, why is the limit there?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I'd think, if nothing else, that some of the "spam" here was to prove a point (at least speaking for myself): The 10char limitation doesn't mean anything other than having to add a color tag and extra characters to a post. There are some times when a simple yes or no is all that are really needed in a response.

Only real difference, regardless of if a post was spam or not, is that one would take an extra 5 or so seconds to make... and have the same visible effect.
Honestly, though, I couldn't care less about the 10char limitation. It takes all of 5 or so seconds to circumvent it in a post and I'd much rather have the folks upstairs work on in-game bugs, glitches, and general annoyances than mess around with a forum setting that changes absolutely nothing in terms of how little or how much a person will post.
The spammers or contributors stopped by a 10char limit probably wouldn't do it often anyway and the rest of them would still spam with or without the limit.0 -
But if I enforced the no spam rule fully everyone would get angry, we just need the "10char" stuff to calm down a bit, because I could waste my whole day erasing those kinds of posts, and my time is better spent doing something more productive b:victory
Slippery slope, to say the least. You don't want to lock down your forums, but you don't want people to continually spam without repercussion.
