Faction or factionless ?

I was wondering what most people think about either being in a faction, or without one. Personally, I love to do as much as I can on my own, but the game doesn't allow this with the Fb's/BH's/Boss quests and what not..

I've been in a few factions and never really got to settle in because I never got to like being in them ( or the name of it ) . It's either boring, people disagreeing with you ( encouraging stupid behavior and what not ) or a regular demand of your help. In the other games I played I never got annoyed by being in a faction/guild, but this game seems to be on top of the game.

Since a faction is people or a lot of them, it naturally comes with conflict/drama I have had my share of. At times I even had to help others for hours and I don't mind helping, but no one would play a game for the sole purpose of helping others.. And whenever you decline to help it will be rarely recieved with understanding.

Since I am human I cannot claim to not be selfish ( helping others is only you agreeing which is still opportunism ) , but I don't mind helping if it's reasonable and to a certain extent. So far going solo has been very enjoyable, sometimes it gets boring but that's only because some things get repetitive. Sure a faction can be nice for TW and other things, but in the end, what do you think will outweigh another in terms of benefit/pleasure ?

It's really up to how you play. I'm normally a big advocate of factions, although I'm not in one myself. I've found out that when I'm in a faction, I tend to limit my friends to people within the faction. Now I have friends from all over, and I can call on them to help if I need to.

I like not having the drama of a faction. Even if a faction advertises being drama-free, of course there will be drama. Where people gather people will disagree and fight, it's human nature. I'm not accusing the faction of being more dramatic than others, I'm just avoiding drama altogether at the moment. b:cute

When I do get into factions, I tend to throw myself into them, so when I am in one, I make it a priority in my game. I just don't have time anymore. So I fly solo. b:victory

I can't stand not seeing the blue guild text and even though my friends are nice to talk to throughout the day, I still like getting to know other people. So that's why I would choose being in a faction. I guess it depends on the type of person. Although when I do join a faction, I have friends in opposing ones so sometimes when a pk war breaks out I'm always like in the middle kind of.

I'm factionless, and plan on staying that way despite the random exclamation points that like to pop up in my screen.

I'm thinking of making my own faction, just for myself and any real life friends I recruit into the game, but I'm still oblivious to the details of owning a faction other than the cost and where to get one.

yeah if you're a high lvl, you hardly have any time for yourself, constantly doing other people's BH, FB, PKK, ect, and for FB BH and boss kills you can just go to arch and spam it.
but then again it is nice to have people to talk to. but its also possible to make a group of friends outside a faction, like i have :)

This question is the same as "milk or no milk with your coffee". It is purely a personal choice. There are advantages and disadvantages for both approaches, so you have to choose which one makes the most sense for you.

I am pro faction but dont sweat it. I personally waited till after lv50. Its HARD to find the perfect faction for you, in all honesty...
    try
-see what your friends say about their faction, if they feel its good they will recommend it.
-Random factions might NOT be the best.
-Give the faction a month before u jump ship.
-Remember everyone will not notice u on the first week, much less think your the most important person ever to take notice.
-Do not expect pple to actively help u first before offering your own help
-Saying hi and bye when logging in and out, and asnwering to others greetings will play an extremely HUGE role, as insignificant as it may seem.

But yeah, the ones who find their 'homes' usually are the ones that try the faction out for at least a month. Patience plays a huge role.

I have tried both and out of my own will at different levels.
I started this game with determination to never join a faction, but in turn of events I joined one at level 27. Reason? To get help. First two guilds kinda failed in socializing. Sure they talked, joked, but that was it.
After first two guilds I remained factionless from level 40-45. And honestly... I didn't really miss not being in one as that was period when I didn't need help at all.
Third guild I joined cause of the friendly leader. I didn't really get help there and stayed there till level 70 because of socializing and people. I left if cause I got angry that I couldn't get any help (I was one of highest levels there).
I remained guildless for few levels, joined a guild which was rather silent, rather strict and which never needed me and made me feel useless . Sounds silly, but I missed "feeding my ego" with thanks.

So to put shortly. From my experience, it is worth to join guild to get help, give help and communicate with others. In a way guild is a bigger squad where people join for a certain aim and cooperate to reach it. May it be having fun, getting help (often "helping" is key to getting help), to get power, to earn money...

If you haven't "tasted" any of those points in some guild, then they tend to not matter too much. But once you do, well... After joining a talkative and friendly guild it is hard to remain in silence. And you can't bother your friends with chatting all the time too. At the moment I log in just to talk with friends, run some TT with them to get mats I need or some of them needs and maybe some quick BH for me or others. Without a guild I probably would stop to play or would turn into WC spammer b:shocked

Guilds tends to spoil you in good and bad way. If you never "taste" a good guild, then you never really need it.

You just have to find a really good faction. Believe it or not, there are drama free factions out there that are willing to help it's members. But, since they are probably not easy to find these days, if you want to remain factionless, then more power to you.

Wow...nobody from Dreamweaver has yet to chime in. Odd.

I've gotta say, Dreamweaver has a LOT of rather useless factions (i.e. ones that don't help/talk/do anything) that frequently try to recruit people, including those already in factions. Personally, I had someone ask me to leave my faction and join theirs. I'm a marshal, 25 levels higher than they were, and could actually speak without tipeing laek tis. If you find a home where you're comfortable with the people around you, it really doesn't matter what your level is, or how much you get called on to help. I joined up at level 15 for my faction and have never looked back, since we all grew together, got to know each other on more than just a "you're here to help because I helped you" level, and did things together that had nothing to do with the game itself (hide and seek, anyone?). Factions are what you make of them, and there are some who simply like having the name above their heads. Others, such as myself, go for something more.

If you're still aggrivated, I don't really know what to tell you. I know quite a few people who don't spam WC with recruitments for their small factions, and it's more of a family there than anything else, but since you seem to be going the solo route, I'll wish you luck. Hopefully a few bad factions haven't ruined the scope of them for you.
I shall dominate the Dreamweaver server through the use of Baked goods...and only baked goods.^^[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Contagion consists of me, my alt, my wife and her alt and one old friend from when it was an active recruiting faction before I basically closed it down when I joined Nefarious for a while.

I don't plan on doing much with it except using it as a way to keep people from trying to invite me to a faction (that gets annoying after a while, especially if they spam you with it).

For me, being factionless suits me.

I'm quite independently minded and like to do things when I want to do things and not at the behest of others.

I can see both sides. There are times when I could use a hand with a quest, want to do TT runs etc but can be difficult to find help. On the otherhand, joining a faction that doesn't suit you could be more trouble than it's worth.

Obviously each faction will have their particular qualities whether it is TW, socialising, dungeon runs, their ethos etc but i've heard the odd story which puts me off them, at least for the time being.

PS - I thought you'd joined a faction Kawakami? The first time I ran across you you were factionless and the next time I could have sworn you'd joined up with a group.

I've never been in a faction (or guild as it's called in other places). I've always wanted to own my own, though. But the last MMO I played, the cost to create a guild was both arms and a leg, plus no one would have joined me because I don't talk much in-game. Nor am I very helpful if it's a task that I don't have to do myself. I'd think that being in a faction would make it easier to get a group for quests and such, but, as I said, if no one really needs to do that quest, why should they help? Also, there's the rivalry between some guilds that makes one side biased against the other (or the entire game against one faction for the actions of a few members), which makes it harder to get groups together outside the guild.

On the other hand, PWI doesn't have random guild wars where people will kill you while you try to vend. b:victory

I do like factions for the next reasons:

    - You have people to talk to
    - You have people to help when you feel like it
    - You have people that will help you when needed
    - You can really get out of boredoom by dueling other people in your faction
    - You can have good laughts in there
    - If your faction/guild has drama, make fun of it instead of getting angry about it
    - You can make more friends knowing your faction member friends during BH, FB, questing, etc. this includes lower and higher levels.
    - You will not get those anoying exclamation signs every 5 mins of someone inviting you to a faction

As the others say, if you don't like to be surounded by people, just go solo, else if you like to talk with a lot of people, join a faction :]

Do not be cocky, be polite, be funny, treat others like you'd like them to treat you ;] thats simple to do, and always, try to help people with their stuff, you will get the help back when needed ;] helping is good :] but don't always expect something in return of course.

Helping will always say something good about you and you will get more invites for activities~

I didn't join a faction until I was level 50+... because being factionless if fun...? XD But I love mah faction and I enjoy TW :3 (~> loves money b:chuckle but besides that, talking to other people is fun. And since I'm noobish and die sometimes, I ask for a rez b:surrender ) Being in a faction also gives opportunity to join RB's and TT's (+other stuff..? XD), especially if you haven't done one before. I prefer learning with my faction vs. random people ><'''

Well it is a MMO. Emphasis on the second M.

I think being in a faction isn't just about getting and giving help. Its a place you chat, hang out, poke fun at each other, confess to your dumbness at times and help each other out if, when and as you can.

Like someone earlier said, give faction a time. Its almost like a family. There will always be people you like and people you don't like so much. Give it at least a month. Chances are if you don't like someone, others probably wont too and the troublemaker may be packing his bags soon enough.

Also, try not to treat your faction mates as people who are 'bound' to help you. Get organised, try and get external help too if you can and when people see you're taking some effort to get things rolling they may just decide to help you out as well. Everyone has a lot to do and very little time to do it in. Often enough some may not be helping out just coz there may be more people that need it done and doing it just for you alone would be kinda a wasted effort. For e.g. my cleric friend's faction mates needed Krimson killed. I agreed to tank, and got a few of my own faction mates in. End result: One run, 5 other people got their quest done. Yes my cleric friend was out of squad and healed externally.

I joined my faction when I was in the 30s. Its had its ups and downs, but I don't regret joining for one second.

My advice take your time and research a bit before you join a faction. How well you enjoy yourself in one depends totally into how much effort you put into it. Remember, its the members that ultimately make or break a faction.
When the going gets tough; Get a tank!

I've gone factionless a lot, but I hate it. I'm one of those types who actually likes wc while grinding just because it's nice to have someone else even there to listen to. I don't talk much myself, but I like company and having a wall of blue text is nice. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's interesting, sometimes it's even beneficial. Drama's no biggie either, I usually "lulz", stay out of it and enjoy the amusement.

My only downfall in factions is worrying too much about being a hassle to others ^^; This usually leads me to skip group instances or activities I feel I might mess up on, refuse to ask for help with things, or refuse to argue or disagree with others, as well as being rather unconfident. Not exactly a good social quality lol.

I like factions. I just got kicked out of my second one yesterday though. The director got angry cause I told him to pay less than 10 mil for a nien beast (told him if it was upgraded to pay less, didnt know u couldnt upgrade them). He bought one for 10 mil and was happy, until some guy told him its worth 4.6 mil (its actually worth 7) and he decides to kick me. The thing was though,he had 17 gold and was gonna buy a kirin from boutique (kirins are worth 3 mil). I told him to sell the gold instead. Even in the end I made him like 4 mil,and he still kicks me, even though its his fault for not listening properly (I'de told him to check price with someone else).

Anyways,I like factions. One of them helped me kill a jaden qingfu =O

i have always been a faction hopper i had a few factions that made me stay but due to them being as good as death i had to leave which i stil regret now

i have made alot off friends in the time i have been hopping from faction to faction but none off those faction could satisfy me i was just to impatienced
i guess but the times i did gave factions time i only got more disapointed

right now i just started my own faction and i will try to build something up if i fail im just gonna keep this to prevent random faction invites

anyway a good faction will make you want to stay and a bad 1 just go solo
its impossible to always do the right thing we all make mistakes i am not different from that
just try to be a good person

I dunno I find that I really like my faction a lot. I think maybe the key is just having people you like in a faction. Ours is really small, but everyone is extremely active so you'd never notice, and we only add people seldomly. That way, the new person is fully integrated into the faction. so theres never a point where we are running around wondering who all of these new people are, because there's only one new person at a time. :)

    Faction, definitely.

The faction I am in is simply wonderful. Its a lower level faction (3), and people help the best they can. I get offers of help everyday. And I like to help them as well.

I normally level slowly, doing the safest quests first. Its just how I play. Being in the faction means I get invited into situations that I wouldn't normally play in. Its helped be grow as a player. I would have never been doing BHs if my faction didn't drag me in there. I am glad they did. I may have never done my first FB, who knows.

There is great conversations going on all day, its a bit quieter during FB runs as our talkers are also our core FB people. Conversations are fun and light, and mostly tame.

I see no drama in our faction, but you can chose to ignore drama. Be nice, be helpful, and enjoy the company of a good faction.
