How many people read quests?
I occasionally do and some are interesting and some are stupid.
I can relate one of the stupid ones to this one game which was part time hip-hop, part time shooter and full time ****. But I'll spare thee.

Anyway, in the winged tiger quest, it tells of this rather vivacious and charming fellow known as the Winged Tiger. Because his parents was an Untamed and a Winged Elf, he was able to transform into a tiger and still have the ability to fly. He was loved by all the people of the untamed and winged elves. And all the ladies would swoon over him. When the humans learned of this special feat, they decided to capture him and tame him as a mount. He resisted of course, but with that resistance, he was then killed. His body thrown into the etherblade lake and his soul lost forever.

What a bunch of jerks.

----

Lol, well, not to entirely flame the human race in PWI, but I just find these storyline quests interesting at times. Anything memorable from any of you who reads the quests?

I was playing on this Cleric and doing all her quests and it kinda struck me... Humans seem to start most of the **** that happens. 0_O;; Untamed and Elves were getting along great then the humans pop in and go crazy on people. I never noticed anything like this being said while I played on my BM, I think most of those quests revolved around Humans trying to take stuff from others or further their own power/preserver, I have to remember it all. But the thought crossed my mind not to long ago, too. XD

I don't think anyone reads the quest givers dialogue. That's some pretty messed up stuff though. Maybe I should start reading them. o.o

Humans killed my family and turned my pets into coats.b:cry
I was probably the humans that started the war with the wraith.b:angry

I stopped reading quest dialogue at around level 30 though. It just became so stale.

"[insert boss] is a powerful monster that did lots of bad stuff. Go kill it."
"[insert mob] are evil creatures that kill people and ****. Go kill them."
"I need [damn item that never drops] from [damn mobs that are hard to kill]. Kill the monsters and get me [insert number here][items that never drop]"

The quests for the first 20 levels were pretty interesting. The merchant's **** wife, Winged Tiger, that blind elf chick's brother, etc. Yeah, it's still the same **** that you do at higher levels (kill mobs) but the reason they send you out is more in-depth than the variations of the three I listed above.

Remember the errant knight near Arrowhead? "Oh, I want to prove to this one girl how much I love her by getting items from those shrunchkins but I'm too weak to kill them. Can you kill them for me instead?" ****ing pansy.

Actually, I really don't care. I just want to kill some wraith and if someone wants to reward me for it then that's fine.
Meh, saw a couple other people doing this so...

Untamed and elves had an EPIC war of EPIC proportions! They did not get along fine yo!

Apparently the elves wanted to use the Untamed as slaves, and not cool minion style slaves, oh no, they wanted Kunta KInte style slaves.

The Untamed refused. So they had a war. A hero emerged and his story is told on the Untamed quest "braveheart". Which is a parody of the movie (you guessed it) Braveheart. The Elves were "strong jerk" towards the Untamed as well.

I love the end game cultivation stories (pertaining to quest dialog topics here) where the wraiths corrupt elemental gods to start a rebellion against the sage and demons o:.

Also if I recall right, the untamed were elven slaves until they rebelled lol. Humans also fought with elves over HT too. Humans arent the only arses in PW :D

Yeah, I loved those low level quests. I need a good reason to mindlessly slaughter harmless little monsters.b:sad

Edit: Huh? We get cool quest stories at higher levels? Time to mindlessly slaughter innocent monsters and level up.b:sin

So basically the untamed get shat on by both humans and elves?

The Untamed is the most peaceful race of the three. So yes, they basically were bullied by the Elves (then the winged tiger settled all up) and the Humans.
But their determination and courage kept them going strong. It's not like they did not retaliate either.

Even when you go meet the Elder for the first time, your Barbarian or Venomancer goes 'I don't trust them, but I will do it'.
Seems that even the new generation did not forget about the all-out wars that happened.

Untamed peaceful? They are rapists. Read the quests, venos regularly bewitch and enslave males from other races, even those already involved, and keep them trapped to forcefully have sex with them. One veno let up on the enchantment and their slave ran away, and the veno whined about how heartbroken they were. And you really believe the male of the species is any better?

Yeah, I really wonder why the other races started defending themselves against the untamed. *eyeroll*

I quite like the story of how the war started - it's interesting how they've managed to get everyone agreeing on the basic facts (winged tiger was hawt!) but the whole 'who started it' thing is, basically: "The other guys!"

I'm kinda expecting the chrono-quests to expand on this. Don't spoil it for me :)

And yes, it's well worth reading the quests. Some are hilarious. Some are utterly stupid too, of course.
My current favourite one goes something like:
(click quest name) "Yeah, sure." (click) "Hurry up, ok?" (quest goes into your log)
Probably a bug, but still, it touched me.

And doing the whole 'winged elf tien will you PLEASE get back together with your girlfriend' at more or less the same time as the 69 cultivation (the love of these two twisted by the wraiths) is... pretty clever, really.

The elder at hidden hero's village touching story of his long lost loved one, now oddly enough that was motivational. But the resurrection part at the end kinda killed it (pun not intended). b:chuckle

After that though, I read less and/or cared less about the story behind each quest.

I remember reading part of the Winged Tiger one, and Lady Wraith. I try to make an effort to read, but sometimes I forget.

I remember one quest I had a couple levels or two ago. Which was to ask an NPC about "Ultimate Weapons." And the quest was pretty much like this...

"Go ask [name] for more information about the Ultimate Weapon, he may know."
-go to the NPC and talk-
    "Ultimate weapons require ultimate materials."
    -end quest-

So far, I've read all the quest dialogue except for repeatable. Those I read once or twice, then just go through them. I enjoy reading up on the story and background of games like this, even if it isn't all that important. I feel that story is one of the most underrated parts of MMO's, and I very much encourage people to pay more attention to this. After all, someone worked hard to make up all the story aspects in the game. By not reading them, your letting that person's (people's?) work go to waste.

Exactly! As I said on the first page, after level 30 all the quests are variations of the same 3 formulas:
"[insert boss] is a powerful monster that did lots of bad stuff. Go kill it."
"[insert mob] are evil creatures that kill people and ****. Go kill them."
"I need [damn item that never drops] from [damn mobs that are hard to kill]. Kill the monsters and get me [insert number here][items that never drop]."
Those lazy NPCs just copy+pasted what everyone before them said.b:angry

    See quests for levels
    0-9
    10-19
    20-29
    30-39
    40-49
    50-59
    60-69
    70-79
    80-89
    90-99
    100-109

Here, for example, quest about post to "Untamed"
Guard of the Exiled Lands sent a highly classified communique by post to the Untamed. En route the letter was intercepted by monstrous bandits. If the beasts trade this valuable information to the Wraiths then the consequences would be disastrous for us all!

    Tideborn origin story:
    http://pwi-wiki.perfectworld.com/index.php/Tideborn

Basically, they were deep in the sea during the whole three-race conflict, but they had their own wraith-started problems at about the same time.

    Edit:
Oh, the "Yan the traitor" buildup (cultivation) has interesting text.
Though it does kinda forget to explain the "How did you know it was him?" at the end. "Well, he was big and evil and his name has 'the traitor' built right in, so I figure..."
