Heads up on a trojan/worm on pwidatabase website

This is a heads up for everyone. I went to pwidatabase and was hit by a trojan/worm this morning. My computer is in the process of being eaten up by the worm and is shut down until I get the tools to remove the worm. I am not sure if this is the right area to post it but just want to warn everyone. I had been getting what I thought were false positives the last few days. Well, I learned my lesson on that score. If you are warned the site has a trojan, do not do like I did and ignore it. I am not even sure if pwidatabase is an official PWI site or a fan based site.

Unfortunately no. My son came running when I yelled for him and he took over. Bad thing in all this is I am an adult and knew better but chose to ignore my gut instincts. I actually think I was in shock at the **** sites that started popping up on my monitor. b:chuckleb:shockedb:angryb:cry

This OP seems like libel to me. Looks like someone ventured off into adult territory and now wants to blame an innocent site.

I use it to check quests out and locations of certain mobs. Do you know of a more accurate site to use?

I have never figured out how to use Rob soft. I will have to research more and find sites I can use when I choose to. Or I can play around with rob soft and figure it out.

you could try this site. it is a nice site that i refer to for any of my perfect world questing or confirming skill damages, costs etc. b:thanks

Though it only has a guide for quests, cultivation, quest mobs and stuff, I'm not sure it has details about mob drops or anything like that.

You're not the first that has gotten a trojan from that website, a friend of mine on sanctuary got one there last year.

Here's the kicker, the website itself contains NO malicious content, the AD banners at the top of the page are what is allowing the malicious content to flow through, the operators of PWI database have no control over the content coming in from those AD banners.

I keep warning people to stay away from ANY websites that contain AD banners.... you have a chance to get something nasty by visiting even the most legitimate of websites if it has an AD banner at the top.

Just something people need to be aware of!

Thank you for validating what I had been thinking. My virus scanner would pop up sometimes in the last few days of going there and I would use the abort connection option. It was not every time I went there, just a few. Then this morning BAM!!, I got hit big time.

    This^
The 2 big mmorpgs (by Blizzard and SE), had a huge problem with this in the past, and on occurrence still happens from time to time.
One of the best ways (still not 100%) is to use Mozilla Firefox web browser, add the program "AdBlock" and "NoScript" (both are downloaded from the Mozilla site)

AdBlock will stop all pop-ups and advertisement banners

NoScript will stop any iframes on the site (like flash, java plug-ins) Have to manually set a site the permission in order to use it to the fullest. Like Youtube for me, all videos are blocked until I say it's ok.

3rd thing, make sure to have the lastes Adobe FlashPlayer, malicious coding was some iframes, and computers using the outdated version got hit with viruses, this wasn't localized to gaming sites, many other types of sites were hit.

    NoScript is so epic. b:victory

I love it. Generally Adblock Plus and NoScript do about the same thing, but it's good to have both, just in case. NoScript stops everything, pretty much. And, if there's something you want to see, you just right click, blocked objects, and select it. Or you can temporarily allow everything on the page. And, even if you do that, it will still automatically block anything it detects as malicious.

    So, I say again.

    <3 me some NoScript
A flood of creativity crashing upon a wall of inability.

I did. I also don't use an anti-virus. Meanwhile, should I notify the webmaster of libel?

The internet runs on ads. Hosting isn't free. The site has contact information at the bottom of the page: ahhalon@gmail.com to alert the webmaster of such issues if they exist.

Believe what you will, I believe her because the same has happened to a friend of mine on that very website.

I too have personally gotten viruses from AD banner equipped websites that were otherwise perfectly legitimate sites.... you might go there 200 times without incident, and on the 201 time when it happens to be running a certain Ad.......BAM... stuff suddenly starts DLing to your PC, and unless you're running on an old 56K dialup, your connection will most likely be too fast to stop it in time.

Don't speak of that which you do not know!

I agree about Firefox add ons they work excellent.
On my Firefox i have Wot also and my bro once decided to ignore Wot's warning about virus on potentialy safe site <he assumed some sort false positive> and BUMM... three trojan horses start to run through HD but they were captured and expelled to lower dephts by our AV soft.

And whit all due respect using net without AV soft??? is like shaving using kitchen knife . b:chuckle
One of my brothers who work in net business taught me two golden rules of net serfing and so far obeying them keep my HD clean.

    1. Keep AV soft up to date.
2 NEVER EVER!! turn down firewall.

Internet is a jungle and if you will not be cautious your PC or laptop can be "eated" by various sort of crawling there worms...

    forgot rule #3:
    play smart

I don't use a firewall, antivirus UAC or anything, because I have learned to adapt to these kinds of things, and I clean my PC manually lol (this doesn't apply to everyone, just saying)

You are correct but right now it is really risky to not have any kind of security and saying that there are bad sites and good sites slowly loosing credibility because hackers learn too how launch surprise attacks.

By the way, not so long ago one of the regular fanfictions <fanfiction.net> site was infected and my AV soft blocked access there until virus was removed.
It was first time when i saw warning direct from my AV soft and he do not have tendency to cry out of blue murder at any potential threat <Norton AV soft was the most hyper active AV soft i ever saw b:laugh because he jump and alarmed at any slight indication of virus <mostly false positives>> and that was for me a proof that no site is 100% safe.

It is very possible that this site got virus via one of the add ons so in other words it is better to be protected as later on paying price for too big trust in "safe" sites.

I'm CompTIA A+ certified and I don't run a software firewall or antivirus. Using them is like paying more for a slower / buggier computer (actually it is). I also never recommend the idiotic practice of reformatting that is so popular either.

Since when did database have advertisements on the top?
I was early taught to work as well as play,
    My life has been one long, happy holiday;
Full of work and full of play-
I dropped the worry on the way-
And God was good to me everyday.

size more than color is the bother, lighter colors are fine. he's using yellow, a little brighten than the default color.

A computer connected to the interet without a firewall and antivirus can be stolen in 10 minutes. A true fact, so that is not so smart if you ask me ^^ there're easy ways to get information from 3rd party computers.

I'd recommend to start using these for your own safety, there's crazy people out there, one never knows.
