Leveling as a Barb

I just got to level 12 and I've been leveling mostly in "Human" form.
Trueform speeds up my movement from mob to mob but weakens my attacks.
And it disables a bunch of my abilities...

Is it worth it to level in Trueform to reduce the downtime of running from mob to mob or is it better to just run slower while in humanform?
Or do you find yourself shifting into Trueform then shifting out when you reach the mob?

well, as a lvl12 barb u wont have all that difference between the 2 forms...

what is important now (lvl12) is to kill as fast as u can so ull probably stick to human form cuz of the number of available skill u have and the full damage dealed.

at low level is hard to find a mob that can kill u so u dont need the upper defense or HP.

btw the best way to kill something depends by your way of playing the barb, that in later levels will be more structured as ur experience as barb grows.

human = fast but expensive kills
    tiger = slower but cheaper

read the sticky guide for barb in this section to have full knowledge

Yes, it's definitely worth leveling. It provides bonus HP; the main reason why WB are tanks. If you don't have the latest level for Tiger Form, you'll probably be rejected from squads for tanking mobs/bosses.

Welcome to the Barb! I'm only level 26, but my advice.

    1. The Barb will feel just a bit dicey until level 20, then things improve.

    2. If you don't have Apothecary Craft, get it. Collect especially Nectar and Golden Flower. These make Life Powder, which gives you +50 HP regeneration per second for 10 minutes. This reduces down time to meditate HP points back.

    3. At level 30, there is a similar 10 minute boost to your mana point regeneration available from Apothecary.

    4. Meanwhile, don't be afraid to invest in some mana potions if the mana potion drops are not enough.

Yes, heh heh, your Barb likes that white powder, and he drinks too much. But then, what do you expect from a Barb?

at higher lvls you will most likely use Tiger form, 59+ you will have sunder and invoke, Sunder is nice to recover your HP without using any pots and Invoke will save you if you are getting ganged by multiple mobs (Mostly magic mobs)

    4. Meanwhile, don't be afraid to invest in some mana potions if the mana potion drops are not enough.

    wrong...
i think wasting (thats right WASTING) point in magic is a big mistake...
the point u have are restricted to STR, DEX and VIT while MAG should stay at 5 (initial value)...

the best way to fulfill the gap ur gonna have when ur skill will be expensiver in mana cost, is to get some +MANA bonus on ur equip (i just have +110mana with my 78 barb and im going just fine with it)

another thing, if u dont have regeneration apotecary items and\or low money (like all barbsb:cry) is best to look for a surrounding cler (press T and deselect all classes but clerics) and ask for buffs, i never found a cler that refused to buff\ress (its theyr job to supportb:kiss)

@xannon: true form is sure a skill to max BUT
until lvl59(the 3rd and last lvl of true form) i kept it at 1 cuz i disliked the DMG reduction.
after lvl 59 i maxed it asap (see broke barb up above) since our strenght of the titans skill was quite high to counter the DMG reduction.

at higher levels when ull face magic mobs ull stick to TIGER since the skill alacrity of the beast can cancel the skill\magic attack of enemy. so run toward the magic mob and use alacrity as 1st hit cuz mob will use the magic attack as 1st hit too.

another vital thing u have to know is that same mobs can give different exp reward, the way u can notice that is a description under the life bar of the mob. those are called NAMED mob and there are a few kind, based on a

non named mob: normal xp, normal life, attack, defense and speed

    ull have:

weak: lowest xp, lowest life and attack > is a fast kill so is worth anyway

sacrifical assault: low xp, low life but very powerfull attack > avoid if ur low life or attack it using alacrity to cancel 1st magic attack, then it should be dead before having the chance to reuse the magic attack.

increased defense: higher xp, normal life and attack but highest defense > avoid since it will take too much time to kill, attack it just if is the last mob around while other are respawning.

increased magic defense: higer xp, normal life and attack but highest magic defense> not a single thinkable reason to avoid b:dirty

increased attack: higher xp, normal life but higher attack (lower than assaul i think) > still a pain cuz of the high attack but if u do ur job and cancel the magic attack u can handle the physical without worries

increased magic attack: higher xp, normal life but higher magic attack > as before, if u time ur alacrity well u wont have preblem with these

increased movement speed: higher xp, normal life and attack but faster speed > well these goes like the inc. mag def ones so...why not ?b:sin

increased life: higest xp (not so sure), normal attack but highest life > like the inc. defense ones these guys are just waiste of time, attack just if is nearest mob or last around, these are still good xp

i think is all here...i hadnt noticed it since some1 of guikd told me =P

so before rushing into a mob look what ur facing so u know what to do...

i risked death so many times when figting some random mob cuz of the fking sacrifical assault dealing +800dmg with the magic attack from distance...

Clear difference between mana pots and putting points into magic.

you are right on the apothcary craft cause in higher lvl's normal hp pots wont do much to a barb,so making them is the right way
    bm lvl 96 rairen-HT- retired

    barb lvl 73 Gaara_Chuko-HT-Adiuvo

Im just a lvl 41 barb buth i have noticed that until lvl 40 you can do it all in human form buth after lvl 40 tiger form becomes very handy because most of the mobs begin to hit to hard against you in human form : you maybe go abit slower buth you will be able to solo most of the most than and before lvl 40 you can solo most of the mobs while using enough of hp and mp pots buth you go very fast then.b:sin

I've never played a Barb, and don't plan to (because being a full time tank is NOT fun for me), but if you feel that you are killing too slow, try partying with a Veno. Venos kill pretty quick (well, I do anyway) and it would be beneficial to both of you.

Just to correct some of the mistakes, sacrificial assault mobs give more exp then regular ones. Increased speed, life, defense, magic attack/defense, ALL give double experience of normal mobs.
