Hair colour

I have posted this on the technical bit, but wondered whether anyone here knew the answer;

When creating a charactor, the second "exotic" option (for female winged elf) has hair colour with different colour streaks through it - not just red. I can change the colour of this and I still get different colour streaks through it, but as soon as I change the hair design (away from that silly hair clip design) the hair colour goes to just one colour with no streaks, I can add the red through it, but how do I get the different colours back in a hair design other than hair clips?

    It's a special texture, you'll find it under Hair - Texture.
    Just hover your cursor over the little window where it shows texture 01-03,
    then scroll down with the mouse wheel. The texture you're looking for is 05.
