Luring in TT1-x

One of my biggest worries going into a TT1-x run is not the bosses, but the luring I would have to do.
On a good day, it all goes well - I click on the mob, send my pet in, unsummon, run back and resummon.
On a bad day or when I feel underpressure because the whole squad is waiting on me to lure, I could end up looking extremely incompetent in my role.
So one of the problem areas I encounter when luring is in one area where there are about 4(?) (catatomb archers and other pyrofiend looking ones) fast moving mobs coming from a right corner towards the entrance and than back again. To lure successfully, I would have to stand a few steps back from the entrance (given that the mobs come straight up to the entrance), click on one as soon as they turn the corner, so that when I send my pet in the mob is still inbound. Seems straightforward, but given the size of the mob, its speed and the distance at which I have to click them, the margin of error for me is very real.
There is of course room for a second or even a third try, before having to wait for them to come around again, but by that time, I'm already slightly stresed, and sometimes it just ends badly.
So, I want to know, how do the pros do it? How do you make it easier getting the first click right? Do you wait for the mob to be closer to click and use a slew of hotkeys? Or do you have some technique to ensure you won't mis-click?
Please impart. b:thanks
On a side note, I've met extremely impatient barbs who do the luring, they park at the entrance and aggro one mob as it runs up. Makes it look easy. b:surrender

If you're lucky enough to have the mobs spaced so that two aren't running at you at one time, use Ironwood or Ven. Scarab attack and use HP to get away fast. You are ensured the mob will come and HP ensures you get away. Be sure to have hood handy in case of failed catch. If you're unlucky, just target a mob and send in your pet ASAP. If the barb thinks he can do your job better, tell him he might as well run in and agro all the mobs with a BM and have the cleric set up BB and everyone can take a mob (unless you have a squishy trying to tank on themselves).
Or, you could spend 3 mirages on a Zeal Genie (the reddish-orange one) and select a mob then lure with the starter skill it comes with. This is safer for you because it means your pet is still out and can catch as you run away. If you prefer luring with a pet, when the hall is clear, run in with your pet, set it to halt with the defend setting and it will bite the first mob that hits it. However, this will probably have a high mortality rate for your pet, depending.
Above all, tell the barb to be patient or else he can go suicide bomber in the tunnel with all of the runners. That would be fastest, wouldn't it?0 -
Thanks for the tips.
Maybe I wasn't very clear, what I'm actually having trouble with is actually clicking on those mobs (yes, major fail).
Should I zoom (so they're bigger and easier to click on)? Or is there some auto select mob hotkeys that I don't know about. b:chuckle0 -
Hm, if you want to stand at a safe distance from the door, you can stand far back from it and angle your camera so that you're facing your character. Then press F9 and turn the camera to face the hallway. Be sure to be completely zoomed out for the best distance. If you want to be looking more into the hallway, zoom in. It won't really help with making them bigger. They will always be small target. Try hovering your cursor near their feet as it might "highlight" them better. It's likely you'll still miss now and again, but it's okay. It happens frequently. At least it gives the squad time to regen HP/MP.
Anything that "auto selects" a mob for you would probably be considered a **** and therefore bannable.0 -
keybound targeting.. i consider this standart for online roleplaying. for pwi not having it is a major bummer on its playability. i see no reason for it not to be implemented. and if theres a way to auto target monsters it shouldn t be bannable. its just going arround a design error and not cheating.0

because, in the case of a veno luring, it would make it pointless, since, for the most times, you are not selecting the mob closest to you, but a very specific mob you need to pull.
Also, it would make botting so easy that we would be flooded with bots.
Read the TOS. It is illegal and you will get your account banned if you go take advantage of design errors.Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you, it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and slap that mother#$@%#^! upside the head.0 -

no you can design it so it circles through monsters in line of sight. seen many games with this "feature" and pwi lacking it is just lame.
the bot excuse is bad as well. all you need to do now is to finde away for targeting when designing a bot no big deal.
is there an apeal for this beeing implemented already ? was there one once? xD
and i wasn t talking about taking advantage of design errors. i was talking about fixing it. theres a differense.0 -
It pops up in general as a request, I've not checked the suggestions forum.
I doubt it'll ever happen though.
Back on topic - yep, it's a pain, just need to try a few times and/or use assist so that you've got more chances from everyones clicking.
And in a few levels, just forget it - people will want to either rush past, or tank them all at once anyway.0 -
I ll have my fingers crossed for this to be implemented. it would make a lot things easier. think about the barb when he needs to target a monster that ran away from him :P its hard i tried
it would also make grinding less frustrating. tried klicking on these flying swords? :P
uh but i think the topic is done for me . i can t think of a better way to lure safely then : concentrate and take your time. b:surrender0 -
If you are having problems clicking on the right monster where they run too far for you to click on them and keep them through their entire circuit, you can use F9 and move your camera forward so you can see better. You will automatically go out of F9 mode when you start moving (or when you jump, which seems easier than hitting F9 again).0

I've considered that option, the problem I have with it is that zooming and timing will take quite alot of time. I think someone said earlier that it does not zoom in on the mobs.Vitenka - Dreamweaver wrote: »Back on topic - yep, it's a pain, just need to try a few times and/or use assist so that you've got more chances from everyones clicking.
I haven't tried the assist feature, had no idea it works for targetting mobs. Interesting.Karadara - Lost City wrote: »tried klicking on these flying swords? :P
Yes, they're pain when they're moving and swinging. Atleast, they're normal mobs, so less damage, no luring and no squad on my back.
Thanks all for input and tips. Interesting to see the discussion has ran on to to some bigger issues.
Update: I've since done another couple of 1-2/1-3, I still mis-click from time to time, but I've learnt that it is not a big deal and I should just remain calm and continue to try.0 -
If you really want to "lure" while playing solo vs waiting for a break in the patrol cycle to pull... It is possible.
I keep extra pets in my bag that I use as sacrificial luring pets for this purpose.
-I unsummon herc....
-Summon a quick strong tanking luring pet....
-Make sure im max possible distance to the lure target...
-I go into fox form (for self preservation)...
-Then send lure pet in to get the aggro...
-I desummon lure pet and resummon herc immediately (zero downtime is key)...
-Then immediately switch on its auto attack of the bash skill and attack incoming aggro (also 2 crucial steps)...
-If timed right you should take zero hits and your herc gets aggro 1st..
-If you fail you may get 1 hit, but will likely survive it no problem (even if cloth with no vitality spec'd)...
-While the herc is fighting use its self buffs (if needed)...
-Rinse and repeat the process.
The reason I always use trash pets for luring is, if they happen to die during the luring process, I still have my herc ready to tank for me. If my herc happened to die in a lure, I would be forced to use a lesser pet to tank.0
