i dont under stand why it keeps saying a eror with the patch i keep having to try again

    Typically, this comes from overloading the bandwidth allotment on your pc. Typically, the longer the patch, the more issues it has downloading. Be patient, and it should work itself out.

    You could also try manual patching (if you don't already have it working). You can find manual patches on the download page, which can be found on the homepage. :P

    Usually there are manual patches for the latest version, and from older versions. For instance, if you're patching from Version 1, you need to start with the 1-166 patch (I think that's what it's called), then 166-something else, and so on until you're up to the current version (which right now is 197).
