I have friend who has basically built his mage as a glass cannon and he's having a bit of hard time taking down archers his level or lower. He is pure magic except for strength needed for equips. He has some vitality from gears but not enough to amount to much. He doesn't really want to restat or add to vit since he'd always been told to go pure magic. If he chooses to stay with this build, what kind of fighting style should he adopt in order to PvP better against melee classes?

    he needs vit if his gear sucks, to have any sort of survivability

    Wizards without vit suck balls unless you can refine past like +5 on everything. Most of my armor is +5 and 3 socket and I still wouldn't give up my 50 extra base vit for that half assed damage increase. Playing style against melee classes? Occult Ice+Perdition crit/zerk or stunlock with GX is going to kill you if your HP/pdef suck, period.
    Wondering how much longer these **** packs are going to be around.

    Even at 100 I feel I almost want to stat in 50 vit... I mean the matk loss is almost insignificant compared to the 500 hp (which is a lot of mages) since I can't afford very high +'d gears.

    I just had some fun with calculator, you might wanna to check it out:

    "Full magic" at level 90 equipped with lvl 90 mold magic sword:
    HP: 1830
    Mattk: 4630-5469

    Now "magic with 50 vit", same level, same weapon:
    HP: 2280
    Mattk: 4218-4984


    So we would get 450 extra HP (almost 25% bonus) at the cost of about 400 dmg (less than 9%) or about 100 PvP damage.

    oh for God's sake stop using calculator without refine and gear.
    4.6k-5.4k Dmg on Full magic? Are u insane? I haven't had that kind of magic dmg since I used my TT70 wand. I have 6.5-7.4k dmg now, unbuffed, 7.5-8.4k buffed. how did u come with those half **** numbers I can't really figure it out. Gear refines and bonuses will make a difference. It's one thing to have a +5% HP necklace used on 1.8k base HP or 3.9k HP, and that's just 1 example. Do the right job or just don't do it at all.

    I wanted to compare stats, not gears.

    If you are unhappy then make your own calculation (and listen to "you used useless cape, replace it with..." or "this armor you used is garbage, lol nub!!11" etc etc) b:chuckle

    ok, I played a little bit with the calc too.
    So, at 30 base vit I can have about 350 more HP than I have now with a loss of 200-250 on base magic attk. That would help on PvP, I won't say no, and will also help when full buffed and for pdef. I'm not sure if it's a good idea or not...but the loss doesn't seem that big.
    I need to play with the calc more, refine my armor to +5 (I'm still at +4) and I'll give some attention to this option. Having +5k pdef self buffed and 4.7k HP at 91 is not bad.

    We've got another set of questions now.

    1. Should he get gear/ornaments with +% damage reduction?

    2. Or channeling gear to get his skills off faster so he doesn't take a hit?

    3. Or get some +% critical items?


    Personally, I don't think he should get +% critical items because that seems to go best with LA builds who already have a higher crit rate due to the dex they have for their armor.

    I heavily agree, my wiz is lvl.63 (pure magic) and we have nearly the same amount of physical defense (both of us buffed with stone barrier you have about 35-40 more p. defense than I do) My advice would be to scrap some of those hp shards and put in some more p. defense but that's just me.

    dont focus on -chan or crite% at that low lvl, your main focus should be on increasing phy defence and hp, so this being said, you use phy ornaments with +HP/+Vit and yes +phy dmg reduction is good too.

    I hardly think the player in question is a "low level." The character is L80.
