freezeout/black screen??

im not sure if it was the installation that went wrong (even tho it said everything was verified and good) or my internet (even tho that works fine too) but EVERY single time i try to play the game if im lucky at the best time i think i played for an HOUR without anything happening, but everytime i play the game freezes on me and the screen goes black and the "on" light for my monitor starts blinkin like the screen got shut off, and lately its about every 5-10 mins of playing...and i have to restart my comp and jump on PWI again. Does anyone know why this is happening and how i could fix the problem.....ive tried reinstalling many times and not sure what the problem is. The ONLY thing i havent tried is doin the manual patch..but the auto one gets it just fine....

so please someone help cuz i didnt see myself liking this game but now im hooked lol...and kinda wanna play for more than 10 mins at a time.

    Update your drivers (or reroll to a older stable driver for that matter). Or, possibly a bad computer.

    I remember when I updated to the newest (at the time) ATI driver, I constantly got BSODs until I rolled back my driver. Now, that they (ATI) updated their drivers, the latest drivers work fine for me now.

    either drivers as Lloyd mentioned, overheat or hardware malfunction.

    If you are playing on a laptop, it is most likely overheating.

    Try raising it up so its not flat and have a fan blowing on it.

    If you are playing on a pc, try updating your gfx drivers and make sure your pc is getting good airflow (that is not surrounded by junk or in a corner)

    You may has a virus.
    Me brother's computer had one(s) that made it all act screwy exactly the way you described.

    Shortly after it happened again but this time due to a really old dead/dying video card.
    You may has to replace your video card.

    oh ok thanks for all the replys in such short time lol, and ya its a pc not laptop, i know its not overheating...but ill try the updating the drivers cuz that sounds like it could be problem...so thanks ill check that out, it just sucks not really knowin stuff bout computers, i have a nvidia video card i THINK, do i just go to their website and download the lastest drivers?

    ANd last hopefully its not a virus cuz that wouldnt suprise me, but thats another thing i dont know how to take care of or look to see if i have a virus

    Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

    Yar I virus isn't the first suspect to come to mind but it just might be that your video card is dead/dying. If you have a friend who'll let you borrow his video card (err might want to let him do the switching and make sure it's compatible with your computer) to test if your video card has gone bad. Feel free to do so.

    ya im thinkin its my video card now cuz i downloaded the driver for it and now EVERY TIME i get to log in my account and as soon as my char appears my computer restarts automatically now...

    so now i cant even get in at all, imma try uninstalling the driver to see if that does anything, or tweak the settings maybe?? Its catalyst control center but i dont know how to work it really lol, so i just been randomly changin stuff in there and nuthings happened yet.

    maybe my video card is just dead :( but im hopin i can get this damn to work

    ya other other games do work fine, just tried diablo 2 and counter strike, but i rolled back the driver to my video card and now it lets me play again, but it does the same thing where it freezes and my comp restarts after bout 15 mins of playing...suprisingly tho now ive been playin about 3 hours and it worked fine....

    im just gonna assume my video card is all messed up and decides to work sumtimes and bey **** other times...

    It might seem as if you not overheating, but I would bet that the graphics card fan might not be working right. Usually this indicates something is overheating and windows machines will shut things off to prevent permanent damage to components in the machine. You might need to pull the side off your case and make sure the fan on your graphics card is running correctly. The other issue that can sometimes cause a problem is memory that has gone bad. Of course this is all hardware based. yea, a good idea to update the graphics drivers, however, if it just started, and your using the same drivers as before, it's more likely a hardware issue then a software issue. So check your various fans to make sure you system is cooling what it needs to and make sure any exhaust areas are clear of anything that might be blocking them.
