Macros basically boil down to a series of commands that you assign to a single hotkey. In PWI's case, it's when you'd string together several skills to be cast one after the other with a single keystroke. It can be tricky to get working right since the macro can "break" if it encounters a skill that's already in cooldown, so for example you won't be able to macro together 35 castings of venomous scarab.

Play around with the macro tab and try out some basic skill chains, and when you get the hang of it expand into more complicated series of skills. You'll get the hang of it eventually.

As far as not being able to see names, make sure you're not in minimum frames and that you've got all the relevant boxes selected in the system tab that lets you see mob names and character names, etc.
