What makes you stay or leave a faction?

This topic has probably been covered before, but I can't find it in a search, so I apologize if it's old, but I'm curious.

So as the title says, What makes you stay or leave a faction?

I've been playing PW about 4 months. I play different characters on different servers, and have felt very loyal to some of my factions. But sometimes I've wanted to scream at the factions I've been in.

Pros:
Leaders that help lower leveled members - yet I don't expect them to kowtow to lower members either.
Leaders who try to match up people with other people they know even if not in the same faction to complete boss quests.
Members that work with other members that are their own level.
Friendly conversation between members.

Cons:
Leaders that just want to do TT (or something similar) over and over and over again and ignore lower levels. Isn't this boring for them?
Members that don't want to work toward the same goals/quests that others of the same level are working on.
Many of the people in the faction are alts so new people to the faction don't know who is who.
Seeing a leader go ballistic in WC over another faction.
Friendly conversation between members... but too much ... I don't need to know what you ate for breakfast. Really.

Sometimes I just want to not be in a faction at all.

(and no, this is not my main account.)

    for me its very simple.
    I leave if i'm not getting along with everyone.
    I could careless if they are a rich faction, top faction, helpful faction.. i'm only there for friendship. Everything else that comes along with that is just a nice little bonus for me.
    Right now i belong to a very very small faction of friends that I met on another MMO a couple years ago and i wouldnt have it any other way.

    i just like a good faction that u can talk to. especially with vent. like sometimes i liek the conversations about gamin then the other times i like the conversations that have NOTHIN to do with the game xD
    also like helpful factions _ not ones that only help a few people with RB and not just a certain group _

    what is kowtow?

    I think your pros are all good ones, something I try to keep in my faction (im the leader afterall). I've been in another faction on the same server (different character though) - a faction which has since ceased to exist, and has merged with a more powerful faction (after loosing like 40+ members). some of these pros you mention were things I didn't often find in the leadership of that faction, and were things that - though it didnt really affect me considering there were plenty of others in the 140 of them who were willing to help at pretty much any given time - I felt should have been there. So, in leading my own faction now, I always try to keep those things in mind.

    now, your comment about not caring what someone had for breakfast is... well... your own stuff. hate to say it. you can always ignore FC if you feel that way about it. I like to think that those who are in my faction are, if not family, good friends at the least. And I hope they feel the same about me. Matter of fact, my faction houses myself, my sister, and my nephew as well... so conversation like "mom is coming to spend the night this weekend" is common place.

    Leaders (or just all high level players in general) doing TT all the time... back on my other toon, I used to think this was annoying as all get out since I couldn't get help right away. I learned to be patient and things got done sooner or later. And then, when I hit 60 - guess what happened? I started doing TT all the time. For me, it wasn't boring at all. If it was boring, I wouldn't be doing it - I'd have been grinding coin to buy the gear instead. I enjoyed doing it. Perhaps not everyone feels the same about it as I did, but you may find yourself in the very same spot that you criticizing. Not that its a bad thing, just that your interests may change in time. Myself personally - I always watch both FC and PT chat, so I see whenever someone asks for help. I will never ignore a request, what I will do is tell them that I am currently busy and if they still need help when I am done, I will help them. (it used to tick me off when I'd ask for help when there were 30-40 people online and NO ONE answered - yeah.. I realize you may be busy with something, but nothing in this game takes soo much concentration that you can't take 2 seconds to say so.)

    Semi-active faction chat, helpful people, people who have a great sense of humor are pros for me.

    The opposite of that would naturally drive me to leave the faction eventually, and an atmosphere where you're pressured to level absurd amounts also turn me away because I kinda level slow. b:surrender

    I don't know how to take this. :P

    Also, something that turns me off of a faction is pressure to level fast.

    To be honest I was picked up by my faction when I was a lvl 2(this is my first MMO I was VERY lost and the leader was a high lvl 70 and stopped to help me) so I don't have too many experiences with other factions. So based on the only faction i've been in:)

    Pros
    -Family friendly chat - im only 22 but I dont want to be in a faction where people are cursing and talking about completely innappropriate things ALL the time. It would drive me insane.
    -Everyone is willing to help everyone regardless of class and level
    -Everyone gets alot well most of the time
    -Everyone is willing to work with others on quests, but as I like to solo alot of my quests that seems to be ok with people too. (I see "kill ** of this mob quests as extra grinding time)
    -Help with FB/TT/BH

    Cons
    -Im one of the higher levels in my faction, ill admit it would be nice to have someone around to show me how to TT and RB and be able to help with higher level bosses
    -Arrogant people who act like they are better then everyone else and deserve an officer position just based on level
    -People who make the faction look bad by Ksing from lower levels or making a fool of themselves on WC etc

    I've been lucky to have come across such a great faction so early in the game, they are like my family on PWI. The only actual problem I have is the one I listed as my first con.

    "pulls out RPG"

    Likely to Stay:

    If the Faction is fairly mature in how they treat their members.

    If they will accommodate my time zone to a fair extent.

    If they are helpful as much as they can be.

    When they find ways of being useful that go beyond being a group of monster killers. (like we have an equipment bank etc...)

    When they do interesting NON-GRIND related things and keep FC hopping.

    When they can and DO use my services.

    Likely to Leave:

    If they are a PvP heavy Faction. (I am not going to waste my Coin with the flinky PvP system here)

    If they expect me to do a lot of TT and similar dungeons (excludes FB's). (Another big waste of time. I will do it some but not all the damned time)

    If Faction Chat is dead or boring...

    If people are frequently mean or childish.

    If I do not feel like I am very needed.

    If all we do is Grind grind grind. (I can do that WITHOUT a Faction)

    Leadership is heavily missing.

    People just rush into monsters all the time in dungeons instead of using STRATEGY to keep everyone alive.

    all i need in a faction are people who are real... who aren't afraid to be themselves b:chuckle

    i love my current faction for that very reason, among many others. everyone in it (at least the ones who aren't just jokers lol) is real and down-to-earth b:pleased

    i hate factions where you are pressured to level, where they get all uppity whenever you cuss... i hate when factions ignore you because you aren't 80+ like most of them are lol...

    i love it when you ask your faction for help, and they ignore you.... but then suddenly they appear at the boss geared up for grinding it into the ground b:laugh

    i hate factions with anyone who carries themselves (acts like) they are under 21 years of age

    Faction should:

    - work like a family
    - be organised
    - needs to be based on trust
    - should kick Cryers / Beggars
    - should treat everyone equel no matter on lvl
    - no guild taxes
    - should have an active player base
    - forums / vent / TS are nice
    - should have some hawt girls inside

    Thats basicly what Im after when joining a faction.

    Hmm let's see ... what I'd like in a faction would be :

    - PRO players that know how to play their class or are willing to accept their mistakes ( if any ) and learn to correct them ;

    - Ppl that are very devoted to the faction and they'll stick with it no matter if they are badmouthed from outsiders ;

    - A fun , active faction chat that's never dead ;

    - Ppl who can take jokes , perverted ones included b:sin ;

    - To be leaned towards PVP :
    a) pk in groups ;
    b) don't feel bad when killing players ;
    c) at the same time don't kill lower lvls over and over again ;
    d) love long lasting TWs ;
    e) never say no to a good fight or challenge ;

    - To take care of it's members as in help them with the instances they need when they reach certain lvls and those ppl should help back or help others do the same , basically just keep a helping chain going ;

    - Try to do things such as TTs , rebirths , fbs and other instances in-faction as much as possible ;

    What I'd hate in a faction would be :

    - Ppl who leave due to loosing in TWs ;

    - Ppl who join a faction just because it has lands and they want to get paid ;

    - Ppl who like it easy and just want to join the winning side ;

    - Ppl who "change colors " as soon as they leave faction start badmouthing it based on lies only to make themselves feel better ;

    - Ppl who open their mouth or act before thinking like saying "I'm leaving because I can't get help with whatever " but they don't take the time to think if the others are just selfish don't want to help them or they just don't have time to do it at the moment ;

    - Ppl who just click the " leave faction button " without saying anything .

    Things I like in factions:

    - Fun chat between members, a lot of joking around.
    - Helpful members with bosses, FBs, BHs, TTs...
    - Active player base.
    - Everyone is treated equally.

    Things I hate in factions:

    - People who are acting like they're better than you cause they're higher level than you, especially if they were the leader, or some other high position (did they forget they were lvl 1 themselves? -_-)
    - Level limit to join/kick anyone below that lvl limit...newbies should be helped and cultivated, for all you know they might be the most helpful/useful member you could ask for in quests and TW.
    - Being pressured into leveling fast....uh, yeah, sorry for having to go to university and work.
    - Leaders who care about TW too much, I mean, yeah, it's all nice and cool, but there are more things out there other than TW.
    - When members ignore you even if you ask a simple question.

    Its all about balance for me :)

    +

    -big level range like from 1-90 :)
    -active faction chat
    -a close-knit group of friends

    -
    -"I offer ya 20k for doing that quest for me" (If he had known that the veno he spoke to was the leaders alt...lol)
    -people who e.g. totally focus on crafting and talk about it every day and every minute
    -level requirements
    -high levels who dont help the lowbies (hey, we've all been low once)
    -leader toying around with members
    -members who call me names cause of personal reasons and tell me Im destroying the faction
    -people discussing personal problems in fac chat
    -a faction thats all about leveling and making money
    -people who just cant shut up, ever

    Ive been in Wolves since level 8 or so. Never had any other faction before nor after. Ive seen leaders go and come, now I have leadership myself. We had some hard times and real drama moments but we got over it.
    I just prefer a real familiy faction that plays for fun and not for ego :)

    I see a difference in likes and dislikes of low levels and higher levels. Basically the lower lvls want help and not wanting the higher lvls to do RBs, TTs, etc... all the time. The higher levels will prefer a faction that does alot of RBs, TTs, etc... >>

    Everyone expect fun active ppl who will acknowledge their existence by paying attention to faction chat all the time (despite doing things in a squad). But these fun active players you want are a minority in PWI. b:sad

    People have things they called real life to take care of and can't be online when you are.

    People have things called fb, bh, TT, RBs, and other intense fights they are doing in squad that can NOT be allowed to be spammed out by faction chat. So often times faction chat is off when they are in squad. If they have time to talk in faction while doing squad things, someone usually end up dead in
    the squad. b:cry

    If you dislike higher lvls doing TTs, RBs, etc... all the time then you'll have problems in bigger factions with high lvls. What you consider to be useless waste of time that the higher levels do is probably what you will end up doing when you get to their level. And most likely you'll end up exactly like the higher lvls you disliked so much. You do your quests to level. Higher lvls have needs too, not just you. You'll see this when you start wanting your own green glowy weapon at higher lvls. b:dirty

    People have things called friends outside of faction. So they end up talking in private or whispers and so they don't see you talking and they don't talk in faction chat. It's not like they got 4 hands and can type 2 places at once. Or even have 2 heads and can read 2 chats at once. b:shocked

    People have things called shopping in west archo (text spam city). Have you tried walking through west archosaur? There are so much text spamming that all you see are WTT, WTB, and WTS msgs all the time. When ppl want to shop they go there and they can spend hours there looking at things. But hey, it's what they enjoy.

    Some of you said that faction "ignore" you when you ask in faction chat and that pisses you off. Have you thought of what they might be doing that they can't see faction chat and thus can't even see your msg? Things like real life do exist you know. And ppl tend to leave their computer on while afk. How about the possibility that they can't be of any use thus they don't answer?

    It might sound rude to you, but it's uncomfortable for anyone to acknowledge they can't do something. An advice for those who need help from ppl in faction and no one answers you in faction chat: PM/WHISPER THE OFFICERS OR PPL IN THE FACTION LIST. If you don't take actions to get/ask for help, then don't expect others to help. Asking in faction chat isn't good enough. You have to take the next step and pm ppl. That's called a pro player. The others who just asks only faction chat and get angry are noobs who haven't played pwi long enough, or refuse to learn.

    You have to help others actively before you can expect help back. Other people have things they are doing or will do that have more importance than helping you, who they don't know. If you just join in a squad to help out, then most likely no one will remember you. You have to actively say, "Hey, I'll help out." in faction chat when ppl asks for help. or be the one to organize the helpers by pming ppl. This will let everyone else know who you are. The more actively helpful you are, the more willing ppl will be to dropping what they are doing to come help you. And eventually you'll end up being the officer in that faction (Hint: this is how most officers in a faction get their position).

    These are my observation thus far in PWI. The key point to take from all this is that everyone else has things they are doing JUST LIKE YOU.

    Staying:
    - Other players my range +/-5lvls or at least few higher level players (I might need help too)
    - Friendly, talkative and fun
    - Ask and get answer/advice/opinion
    - Instance runs, boss helps
    - I feel like fitting in there
    - Skillful players or at least has potential to become one.

    Leaving:
    -People get ignored. Answer "No" is better than no answer at all
    -Nobody who can help me when I need (not enough players of my range, no help even when there are ppl who can help)
    -Silent faction chat or non-stop trash, idiotic chatting
    -Inguild groups, which comunicates only with themselves
    -Too demanding low levels. Group of level 40s can do BH29 without help of "higer" levels. Different matter if they have searched, but couldn't find group.
    -Where I don't feel like fitting in...

    The fact that I'm the leader of my guild and I don't want it to fall apart.

    But other cases that make me rage is if a low level asks for help all the time for everything. Or those who think their needs are higher than anyone else's.

    As for leaving guilds... on my alts at least. If a guild chat isn't active, then I can't stay very long.
