Well there are some basic differences between the genies.
Each one represents one of the fours seasons. Discipline for example is the spirit of winter. Infliction is spring, Longevity is summer, and Zeal is fall.
They all have slightly different starting stats as well.
Discipline for example has 15 vitality at level 1. Infliction is stronger, longevity is more dexterous, and Zeal has more powerful magic.
Vitality raises your genie's energy (required to cast magic). Magic increases the rate energy recovers and every 40 magic allow your genie to learn an additional spell (you start being able to learn 3). Dex is mostly for defensive spells and strength for offensive ones. So that might influence what genie is best for you!
Finally, they all have their own initial spell. Discipline allows you to fly faster for a short period of time. Infliction has poison stinger. Longevity's spell will reduce an enemies magical resistances. Zeal's Earthflame is special because it allows you to lure a single monster out of a crowd while lowering its defense!

The most important difference between them is the color.

Make sure your genie color matches your clothes or you will clash when you go into combat....

Only reason I keep my purple genie around with 17/50 LP, it goes well of my purple pinkish clothes.

Not anymore. The number of skills your genie can get are now determined by its lucky points.

Stats on each genie are veeeery important when it comes to choosing skills. For example, my longevity has a base of 15 dex, compared to 5 on each other genie. This means I can pump more into dex without getting the 2 point per attribute point cost as well as the fact I have a free 10 dex starting. Since all my skills revolve around and get boosted from dex, any other genie simply wouldn't be as effective. Just an example.

for a veno, probably the best thing you can do is scrap your current genie, and get the "Infliction" genie (starts with 15 str points)

put all your genie stat points into str, and get enough affinities to get "Last Stand" (i think that's what it's called)

that skill instantly heals X hp, but the base hp healed is multiplied by a percentage which is based on genie str (1str=2%)

so if your genie has 50 str, that's a 100% boost to the base hp healed

this is what i use on my genie, and i use the skill when my hp gets below 25%, and it heals me to 100% hp or damn close

i'm also a LA veno, so my vit is still at base of 5, which means i have almost no hp before shards/buffs

The nice thing about the Discipline genie is that it's easier to get the very high-level genie skills (like Ice Blast, Faith, etc.). These skills have massive energy costs so you need to have a lot of points in Vitality just to use them.
