Blue Screen of Death D,:

This is what has randomly started happening to me today:

I was playing PWI, doing nothing out of the ordinary, when suddenly, boom! the blue screen of death ninja'd up on me and the computer crashed. T_T

Now what happens every single time I try to log in on one specific character (doesn't happen to any other ones, it seems) is:
1. I select my main
2. click on "Start"
3. The loading bar loads to about half (always around there)
4. moment of suspense where I think "did windowing/pressing "W" actually help"? o_o;;
5. no: loading bar freezes.
6. blue screen of death shows up + computer crash. -_-;;

I've tried finding some similar posts, but have yet been unable to resolve this issue. b:surrender Some help would gladly be appreciated. ^_^

I've tried system restore; didn't work.

Found out that the same thing happens when I verify the client.

Now when I've turned on the computer once more a message said that the PWI file is corrupt. ~_~

This would be much less frustrating if today wasn't the last 2x exp day. >_>

    A) Its a Sunday. No one's really going to be looking at the forums (at least the GMs) until Monday, so no instant response really isn't that surprising...

    B) Have you run verify? That should handle the corrupted files, I think.

    C) Have you run a defrag on your computer? Doing a full maintenance on your computer (running your anitviral and antispywear program(s) of choice, doing defrag) might help clear things up a bit.

    Finally) If B and C don't work, then the GMs are going to need more information. Such as what your computer is running. Essentially: Please be patient. The GMs aren't 7-by-24 no matter how much we may occasionally wish they were....

    Uninstall pw and download a fresh copy?
    Posting what the bsod says would be helpful too.
    I was early taught to work as well as play,
    My life has been one long, happy holiday;
    Full of work and full of play-
    I dropped the worry on the way-
    And God was good to me everyday.

    Thank you for the replies. ^_^ Sorry about the impatience, but it's just that I've been trying to solve this all day. :P

    Anyhow, it's definitely not a problem with just the game anymore... Yes, I've ran verify but it blue screens after a while.

    Also, er, I forgot to mention this, but after I reboot the computer, just before I can log in, I get this message:
    "Checking file system on C:
    The type of file system is NTFS
    One of your disks needs to be checked for consistency. You may cancel the disk check, but it is strongly recommended that you continue."
    I get 10 seconds to cancel the check, but if I don't cancel it then it just get stuck at "1 percent completed." for a few hours.

    When I try to run defrag it says "Disk Defragmenter has detected that Chkdsk is scheduled to run on the volume: (C:). Please run Chkdsk /f now." I tried running Chkdsk /f with command prompt and got this message: "Chkdsk cannot run because the volume is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? (Y/N)" I accept, but all it does on system restart is add about the exact same message as the "Checking file system on C:" one after I cancel the first one.

    The bsod says: "DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    Technical information:
    *** Stop: 0x0000001 (0x00000010, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0xF83AC0E4
    ***iaStor.sys-Address F83AC0E4 base at F839D000, DateStamp 41c367a8"

    Sorry, I'm not exactly sure what you mean by "what your computer is running", but after clicking on "About Windows" I got "Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm. 040803-2158 : Service Pack 2) Copyright 1981-2001 Microsoft Corperation" Yeah, I'm brain dead when it comes to computers b:surrender

    And I'll keep trying to reinstall PWI as a last resort for now or wait until October, as it will surpass my monthly download limit. >_>;;

    EDIT: I tried verifying again and it didn't crash this time, just said "verification interrupted." Same for the game; I tried logging on that same character, and it didn't crash the computer this time, just the game. :P

    ...From the sounds of it, your computer has issues that are not related to the game.

    This looks like a job for the GMs! Or the Geek Squad! Or somebody who actually knows about computers (ie: not me)...b:surrender

    Hi,
    It seems that your C: disk is developing bad sectors. It is a tough issue, as after some time you might start loosing important information and even render your computer useless.
    I would recommend the following steps.
    FIRST AND FOREMOST!: Backup all your important information you have on the computer (Word files, excel files, your unfinished autobiography...etc). The best way is to burn everything to DVD (twice just in case...)
    Open a DOS shell and enter: chkdsk C: /f
    You will get the message that the disk is in use and the check will be run when you restart again.
    Accept it.
    Try to play, see some movies or anything else till it is bed time.
    Reboot the computer and let it run. The chckdsk process might take all night, don't be alarmed.
    In the morning, the computer should be running OK.
    Run defrag on the disk. It will take a long time, so you can do your daily chores till you return home.
    When you return to your computer, it should be i working condition, though I wouid run a full antivirus scan on it.
    Hope it helps.

    Much obliged. b:thanks (I am using "thanks" too much in this thread, lol)

    I will do that, and report the results sometime tomorrow/after tomorrow. +__+ And I've now sent the ticket to Tech Support. :D

    EDIT:

    My report: Well then, I've let chkdsk run for at least twelve hours this time, but I'm afraid nothing has changed; it was still stuck on "1 percent completed". I guess I will just try reinstalling the game, and see what happens.

    EDIT 2: saved the few important files, wiped the computer, reinstalled everything, and all seems to be working fine now. -_-;;
