International ??????

International or internationally most often describes interaction between nations, or encompassing two or more nations, constituting a group or association having members in two or more nations, or generally reaching beyond national boundaries. In American English, "International" is also commonly used to signify "outside of the country".
So why is it that there is only an English client?
Ok so i am English and i understand quest info and so on because its my main language.
But being an International game suggests that people of non English speaking area could also play.
Yes indeed they can if they are fluent in English. But many people play games such as this to help learn English while playing with English speaking friends. Most other games (infact over 90%) offer clients in different languages such as French and German.
Why does PW not offer this?
I know around 200 people from around Europe who really do want to play the game, but unfortunately can't due to limited understanding of English. And no clients in other languages.
Is there ever going to be clients in other languages for International PW or is it really just PW English?

yes as a second language, and that would also suggest that they will not be fluent. and also have some trouble understanding.
point is that its an International game.
International only if you speak English.
So really PW could be missing out on a lot of players because they simply cant understand 100% of English.
Tell me how it is fair to call something International but yet in reality isn't international because of its lack of support for non English speaking countries whom PW is advertised too.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
English is the language of international communication, so it is appropriate that it is used in this game. However, it would be nice to include client-side language packs...Envy - Lost City wrote: »most countrys teach english as there secondary language anyways.0

exactly my point.
It would bring in a lot more players who have trouble understanding all English. Or who would simply enjoy the game more being able to read and understand things in their own language.
I mean im sure im not the only person who knows people who want to play but cant due to problems with understanding quests and other things in game.
And i know that if there was some way of haveing their client in their native language then they would be playing now.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
The game offers support to all spoken word. you can even text message in Chinese in game. This game and it's contents were originally developed at China, PWI is the first, fully translated English version of the game.
As far as translation goes, PW is also available in Portuguese for the citizens of Brazil.
There are also n0obs like me too, a Native from England and everything about my English sucks.I was going to post a reply... then I realized, you would likely reply in anger and insult me, to which I'd most likely respond with a wittier comment or slay you with a macro and then, onlookers, seeing that comments had been made, would interpret the traffic as interest, thus earning you attention you don't deserve for your **** post. So, when you DON'T see a comment from me, THAT is me saying "FAIL" in a much more effective manner.

btw, they're not going to re-translate the game all over again for a few people who cant understand English.0 -
but no French,German or Spanish support/client sided language packs.
still again i say its International so in reality that should include non English.
Maybe they will release some other language clients maybe not.
Personally i would like there to be other language clients available so that it can truly be International.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

lol you think someone will Type every quest into a translator. and they don't have to translate the whole game, just the text from 1 language to the other. Really every other game can do it, and there's Chinese, Malaysian and Russian versions of PW (maybe more) so why cant there be French and German and Spanish.
And also you dont know if they are already doing this, nor do i, im hoping maybe there will be some offical reply on weather they are considering it[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Translate a whole game costs money. And since mmorpg updates often, each update will also need to be translated. PWI probably don't think it's worth the cost.0 -

Why does PW not offer this?
PWE offers PW in several languages. There are Russian servers, Chinese servers, Malaysian servers, and PWI's English servers.I know around 200 people from around Europe who really do want to play the game, but unfortunately can't due to limited understanding of English. And no clients in other languages.
Is there ever going to be clients in other languages for International PW or is it really just PW English?
Really think a Chinese company is going to translate the game for a handful of Europeans? Doubtful.0 -
PWI and PWE are in charge by separate companies.
Although, I agree that language packs or options would be nice for the people whose English isn't very good. I'm French/English bilingual myself, and as an ex language student, understands that not everyone has the chance, means, or even the interest or capacities (in terms of English as a second language education, which often stops being mandatory after high-school in most countries) to become 100% fluent in English. The game doesn't require it, but it makes social interactions so much easier.
I've been in games where there were several language options, and I'll be honest, sometimes it's troublesome. Everything was translated, and most people would use their respective language... which is very, very normal.
The problem showed up when we ran some major instances and you'd have 2-3 Germans, 2-3 Spanish folks, 1 Japanese, 2 Polish... and when you'd talk about weapons, strategies and skill use, they could not understand because they wouldn't play in English; they knew their skills alright, but the German guy had no idea of what the Japanese was talking about, even if it made sense to someone who understands both languages. Situations like these were common.
So most of my time was spent translating and hovering between German, Spanish, Japanese and Polish to figure out what they were talking about. I don't speak a bit of Polish past "good night".
And, even though it was fun for a while, I'm glad I don't have to do this all over again in another game.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Due to constant PMs: I'm not German, sorry folks0 -
The game "International" according to the perspective of the devs in China. "International" is basically a stand-in for the word "foreign". We are playing the foreign version of the game which happens to be in English is contractually not allowed to be played in Asian countries which have their own native versions of the game.
PWI is targeted for NA.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

First; Use the search button, this has already been discused to death.
Second; International is meant simply as "outside" China, and in fact meant to include only North America, as clearly stated on PW's site... Mexicans and Quebecois might have something of a bone to pick about this, but since neither are represented by any significant amount of players it sort of becomes a moot point. This game, therefore, is specifically targeted at english speaking north americans in the US and Canada. The rest of the players are welcome to the game only provided they can speak a reasonably understandable english.
Third; There are actually versions of this game servicing some european customers in their native languages. No doubt translations are atrocious and service unlikely up to the standard in here. But that's something you should take to them, not the company operating in the United States. I'm Latin American and most players in my region of the world would rather play most games in english than use services localized for Spain, there's a host of reasons for this, but the bottom line is we are happy to be given a choice. Deal with it.0 -
I feel like this could be in the suggestions section b:victory

I did a little research for you. I looked up a couple of sites, and there is a general consensus that the most popular language in the world is mandarin. Hence the original Chinese version. I was unable to find a consensus for the rest, but English consistently ranked top 5 in the lists. Also taking into the fact that English is studied in many parts of the world, it is probably one of the better choices for a so-called "international" version. That is why when you see an "international release" of a game, be it console, PC, MMO, whatever, it is always (i think) in English.
To be honest, if going by your definition, we would have to accomodate every language in the world, which is hardly a feasible idea. The best option would be to tailor the game for languages that are most widely spoken, and for languages that most of the world at least know a little of. And in this case, it is English.
just my two cents ^^0 -
please do not resurrect old topics. Feel free to post a new one if the thread that you want to talk about is dead. Dead means no one has posted in it for a month or more.
