I remember when I first downloaded the game client, it worked fine, but my computer slowly began to pack up. If I even attempted to enter the internet, I would get random redirects to pages and pop ups. My computer would barely move. After I reformatted my PC, and put all the files apart from Perfect World on, it worked fine. I haven't had that problem since.

I really enjoyed Perfect World, but I don't trust it after that. Can anyone else confirm this?

    For the note, one of my friends had the exact same problem when she installed Perfect World. Her dad picked up a virus from the client, and this was before I even mentioned my problem.

    No one can guarantee that something is 100% virus free, but the symptoms you describe are likely from a trojan you picked up with a download. Viruses can load themselves but a trojan needs you to put it there.

    You said you reformatted but kept the PWI files seperate. A reformat and reinstall would of course get rid of the malware. Do not put those old files back on your computer. They are likely still infected. PWI is not at fault for the trojan you got. If you want to play, redownload the client for a fresh install.

    If it was true that PWI gave you a virus/trojan as you assert, then others would have it too. My machine is clean, that I know for certain. Your infection is most likely a coincidence and has nothing to do with PWI.

    Get an antivirus application, use it and keep it updated. Most antivirus programs provide signatures for detecting popular trojans and spyware. Windows Defender comes to mind. It's free, and it will scan everything you download before you open it.

    nice try at inciting fear amongst the masses... now gtfo b:bye

    if you use the PWE main download (NOT the mirrors) you will not encounter this issue. i've had problems with mirrors before, and thus i always download direct from the producer, and now i never have issues with such things

    Sorry, this is what I do for a living the "popular" trojans are made specifically to get around the "popular" anti-virus. I guess it's a good thing that people believe that an antivirus is good enough or that they won't get infected (*cough*mac*cough*) or else I'd have to find a new line of work.

    Just like when we're sick we take different medicines for different sicknesses, same with computers. Get a standalone Antivirus (Kaspersky, Avast, AVG etc), get a standalone Trojan Cleaner (A-squared, Malwarebytes) and a standalone anti-spyware (spybot search & destroy). Of course, stop clicking on everything that pops up while on Myspace, stop trying to download illegal software/music and getting a nice free trojan instead, don't click on e-mail attachments etc.

    Interesting. I have a habit of saving my download files, then scanning them with my security programs (including Spybot S&D) before I try opening them. Have found five trojans so far, popular ones. Granted there are malware authors who create undetectable software, but the vast majority are bad coders looking for a quick buck.

    I had a woman at work who claimed she had no need of an antivirus program. Along came a spider...actually a worm that ate her hard drive. She had to replace it. She understands now. It's not that hard to protect your data. Using a firewall is a good step too.

    Sounds like adware and possibly spyware, not a virus.

    Did you download the client from another download host?

    @poison
    I"ve been outa the biz for a while now, but last i knew the cpu exploit that allowed true hardware destruction was fixed, many many years ago. While i understand that modern software can wipe fat tables and even the secondary fat, I find it difficult to believe the low level format, and even lower hardcoded core could be damaged. Let alone the phsyical platters. and other hardware. Am I that out-of-date?
