tree of protection vs life drain? (genie skills)

I am looking at these two skills because of the changes being made to ToP.
Anyone have any opinion or anyone who uses Life Drain do any good? What is the heal difference between Top and LD? b:puzzled

edit: I also found Essence Penetration on the skill table. Does anyone recommend that skill in replacement for ToP?

Heals for only 5%, lower stamina cost though. Not sure where to find Life Drain in it's effects.0

I think LD work good but never tried it, just be aware that it can be used only underwater0

It used to be a 5% heal (at all levels) and triple damage in the water. Who knows how they changed it.0

Mhh, I was rather not clear in what I meant. I didn't see the description mention anything that could be an effect for life draining, as in vampirism. It only mentions damage and healing.0 -

They lose life, you gain life - sounds like a drain to me.
Some kind of weird drain that gets more damaging but less efficient as you level it up.
Sounds like it's pretty good for tank though - 5% could be a big chunk of change.
I'll be sticking with the new fixed number one though, that's much more useful for us lower HP people.

EDIT: oh.. i see... they completely demolished the old skill... from patch notes:Essence Penetration - This skill has been completely redesigned and renamed "Second Wind." Now instantly heals you for a small amount. Requisite Affinity Wood 1/Earth 1/Water 1. Minimum level 10. Genie Strength points increase the potency of the heal by 2% per point.

60s cooldown.
And +2% heal for each point of strength. So it's now the only skill my genie can use, and I restatted it to strength entirely - a nearly 1k heal replaces ToP nicely, for me.0 -

Essence penetration, yes.
Just tested, works FINE as a panic button for me. Possibly even better than ToP did, since it doesn't bump up max health it won't trigger a charm tick.
It's a smaller heal, but it's instant. I never did get around to the 'boost your health and mana' trick, so I don't miss that.

Pre-nerf, I had both Life drain and TOP on my genie to test which was better. I was looking for an emergency heal spell that I wouldn't really use that regularly. I liked TOP much better because with Life drain, I found that you had to have a mob targeted for it to work. Now when I'm healing someone and draw heal aggro or something goes wrong, switching targets wastes time, so I eventually just stuck with TOP.0

Essense Penetration is called Last Stand in the list when you put up the genie to learn skills.
A level 8 Essence Penetration heals 660HP (it seems that every level increases the amount by 70, so I expect it to be 800HP at level 10). With 50 STR, you should be looking at a 1600HP instant heal. I would say it's not bad for a emergency heal, especially for squishy classes.
But then, ToP would heal more at high levels when you have high max HP, especially when buffed.0 -

errr so for my wizard I should bring my zeal genie out of storage and get essnce penetration?
ToP became near useless now since I have such low total hp...b:sad0
