What is this?
An extremely condensed version of my main guide for people who just want to ingest 30 seconds worth of information and then actually play the game.
Its intended to assist players just starting out, and it's leveling based advice.
Why?
Meh... some people like to play instead of read. My friends especially don't want to hear any more from me than they have to
"OmgOmg Yew Forgot Hybriddd!!!!"
According to the stat build census I posted some time ago (linked below), 80% of archers use a 'Pure' build, more than 6 times as many as use a Hybrid -- for this reason, in this format I don't see the need to fully discuss the alternatives. Were a player having difficulty, they would find this alternative described in my main guide.
Discussion of this specific thread should be posted here, questions and more in-depth discussions about archers are better directed to my Full Length Guide (linked).

I dont really see the point. If a guy comes to a forum looking for info, he's willing to read. Moreover, if he opens your full guide he isnt forced into reading everything. He can just check what he's interested in and go play.PWI:
"Free to play. Pay to win"

This is very helpful because the basics are all laid out; build, necessary skills, equip, sharding, ammo. If someone wants to read the theory behind the basics of an archer or they want to get into pvp they can check your main guide.
I'm a nerd because I probably read the forums on how to play more than I actually play but there are many not like me. Even though I like to read a lot, I like guide a great deal and wish it was around when I started my toon.
b:thanks0 -
Could you add a "Useful Links" section, like you did with your main guide? It should, of course, include your main guide as the first link.
This needs to be put on a notecard or something.0 -

I lvled Lightning shock a lot because it did nice damage up close.
But lightning strike does 500 damage less.
I know it decreases 23% metal defence.
But 23% from my damage aint 500 yet.
So give me 1 good reason why i would prefer lightning shock above strike.
Dunno if i got the names right, but i mean the first Lightning skill u get.0 -

Note: Thunder Shock will be at a lower level than lightning strike for a while. Also, if you pay close attention, you'll see that a level 1 thunder shock = the same damage as a level 1 lightning strike with the added bonus of a metal debuff. With that in mind, it should be obvious why thunder shock is proffered if there's enough chi.
Oh and you'll want to debuff your opponents first with thunder shock in PvP so lightning strike can deal more damage.0 -
why is it better to choose lvl1 bolts/arrows/shots ???
is the upgrade attack not worth it then?
I use the lvl48 slingshot, forgot its name think its eaglehorn.
I found mine 2star refined +4 in AH for 100k. Then I already bought a refined +3 lvl58 jade slingshot too. That guy MIG (Harshalnds) really likes to refine his equip/weapons. AuctionHouse is full of his gear lol
so... Ive been using LeadShot (price 11 at NPC). Should I be using regular 1 coin shots instead?
plz answer ... buyig arrows is pricy specially using Barrage (not to mention MP)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

That's your answer right there. For regular grinding, buying the high grade arrows is too expensive for the slight performance boost they give. Especially considering that monsters drop ammo and you can make your own at craftsman NPCs as well. Besides, the grade 1 arrows work fine for general grinding.
Now when you're actively PKig, that's when you'd use the high grade arrows and attack charms to get as much of an edge as possible.0 -

I really dont understand the combat part because im only lvl 11 .. I use the Quick shot and Takeaim . When im killing mobs i start off with Takeaim then quickshot then quick shot until it dies .. Because the frost arrow takes a lot of chi for me and the wingshell .. Can you make one thats for low lvls?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

I would suggest you grab a pair of claws =P When the mob gets up close use wingshell if you need it and hit away =P That's what i did at lower levels...>_< I'm a wizard in disguise... you know like the old cartoon... except with less robots and more fire/ice/rocks....0 -

No, don't use the hammer. You picked the wrong reward (don't worry, it's no big deal).
The mini really only applies at level 19 and after. Below level 19, just use Take Aim as an opener and kite a bit if they reach you.
When you get to level 19, you will get the Trial Crossbow, and you can use Frost Arrow and Knockback to kill things.0 -
Whats the mini? Quickshot? Now i use Takeaim then quickshot then the hammer (Its faster)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

- The mini is the Archer Starter Mini, which is the thread upon which you are currently posting.
- Get rid of the hammer. It's useless for you.0
