A few queries from a Beginner
I went through as many guides as possible and many topics to get an understanding of how things work in Perfect world and it has really helped levelling my archer quite well. In other MMOs I have always played the tanks and decided that I would go for an archer this time around as I dont think I want to invest greatly on repairing equipments and consuming insane amounts of potions for someone else to kill off the monster. For a change I would like to do the killing. Also my experience with the wizard class has never been a good one. Although they have awesome atk skills, if something gets near them, theyre finished if they dont have support. I know archers are similar but in many cases their evasion (which is usually increased as a side effect of their primary stat) helps a lot. Besides elf archers look cool
Anyways currently going for a pure build archer with 4 dex and 1 str every level.
However, certain things are still of a mystery to me considering its been just over 1 day since I joined the server (Dream...something...like Dreamweaver) and almost have 0 friends with me.
Following are my queries:-
1.) Weapons and Armours -> Many guides have pointed out that it is a bad idea to purchase the npc equipments due to the lack of slots (i guess or whatever you call the stars). However, considering at lower levels (11 and so on) we usually have quite less in terms of money, etc wouldnt it be more difficult to acquire the higher grade stuff? Also considering we would be levelling faster and quickly making our equipment obsolete, is it really a good idea to invest in equips superior to the npc ones?
2.) Manufacturing Skills -> I am currently planning on getting my Weapon and Armour crafting (Blacksmithing and Tailoring) to level 2 by the time I reach level 13 so that I can manufacture the next set of bow and armours for my poor defenseless archer. I am currently reducing my exp levels by infusing it with my genie (lvl 11 also) so that I have to time level the skills up. Is this the right way to go or I am not putting the effort correctly?
3.) How useful/efficient is Alchemy and Crafting (Apothecary and Crafting)? Is there like an ideal stage at which these become necessary to posses and if so what kind of level do people aim these for?
4.) Is there any concept of equipment breaking? This does not refer to the endurance of the equipment becoming too low and we need to repair it in a shop. This is more for upgrading/refining an equipment. If I am trying to get it to a +1 and the process fails, is there a chance that I might lose the entire equipment rather than just failing?
5.) Genie -> What sort of stats do archers go for their genies? I got a Zeal genie with 15 Mag and rest of the stats as 5. I have kept increasing DEX in order to increase the duration of the skills (MAG 15, DEX 20, VIT 6, STR 5). Also the affinity i have selected is (1 Earth, 1 Wood and 1 Water). The affinity was mentioned in one of the archer guides I guess in order to get a skill which would restore HP (Tree of something). Is this ok or am i going wrong somewhere?
6.) Till now I have seen only faction recruitments for level 15+ but do people generally take in archers of my level, maybe as apprentices or in general to help understand the system better? (Just asking as in another MMO i played people were rewarded for apprenticing others)
7.) WHat do the abbreviations TT and HH stand for? I came across these in some of the topic names while I didnt find them in the list of abbreviations used in the Beginner section.
8.) Is the gameplay greatly dependant on Item Mall stuff? Would a person who generally doesnt use these stuff have a serious disadvantage at later levels? (obviously we would suffer a bit but just want to know if its such a extent that youre completely useless)
I apologize from my detailed questioning but its always better to provide more information for others to respond correctly. I thank the people in advance, who would be contributing to building my knowledge of the game.

1. You'll get some pretty good items from the quests and the upgrades on lower levels are minimal. Buy if you can afford it.
2. You shouldn't limit your levels at that level.
3. Apothecary is always useful because of the good items, especially if you happen to play an Archer, the damage absorption potions will quickly out-do Winged Shell. Craftsman can be nice, but don't expect too much of it.
4. If you have refined your item to a level, say +1, and fail the next one, you fall down to +0, that is, unrefined, unless you use items to compensate that. The chances of successful refining are so low that people use items that guarantee that the refines succeed.
5. I don't know much about Genies, never really used mine, but I hear that Tree of Protection and Relentless Courage are good.
6. It really depends on the faction. I happened to have a friend in the game who got me through 1-19. Other than that, I've mostly read topics here and have done good so far.
7. TT is short for Twilight Temple, as HH is short for Holy Hall, both are the same thing, just in different versions of the game, PWI using TT. Twilight Temple is an instant that you can first start at 60, where you kill mobs and bosses and get special items that you can use for crafting special gear refered as the TTs. The notion "TTxx" usually refers to the level requirement. There should be a more extensive TT FAQ in the Quests subforum.
8. Not dependant, but those who use real money get levels faster and do more damage. Oh, and people also trade the in-game currency so that you can really get anything in the game as long as you're willing to pay enough coins.
Personally, this archer is my first and only character and I've liked him so far.If you disregard what I say because of who I am or because of the contents of what I said, you are a fool.

Equipment can "Shatter" in PvP. Link: Shatter Explained and FAQ.0 -
1: Depends on the level range, however using NPC equipment normally ust makes things harder on yourself. Pre-20, it's easy enough to just use quest rewards/monster drops since you'll go through those levels quickly and the armors won't last that long, but as you get to higher levels and start spending more time to level, it becomes better to craft or buy your gear than to rely on NPC equips (aside from quest rewards). Fortunately, getting the materials for creating your own gear tends to be simple enough most of the time, so you'll rarely need to buy from other players.
2: You're doing fine. The exp at lower levels flies by, so you aren't losing much by dumping i into your genie and it gives you extra spirit, which is something you'll never have enough of pre-70 or so. Besides, since drop rates decrease as the gap between your level and the level of whatever you're killing increases, it's best to get your manufacturing skills to at least level 2 early on if you plan to use them.
3: Apothecary = Must have. ... Okay, so I'm exaggerating a bit but if you keep it leveled and use the powders/potions/etc it provides, you will love it. For instance, if yu chose to grind in your 30s, a life and focus powder would, in essence, put you in "God Mode". They also can have a major effect in PvP, should you choose to get into PvP or participate in something that forces you into PvP mode for part of it. Craftsman skill isn't exactly a "must have" but being able to create your own arrows with it, as well as ornaments can be helpful at times.
4: Not really. The only way to permanently lose an equip, other than selling it to a NPC, is to destroy a equip that has been bound to your character. As the name should imply, it's because once an equip is bound to your character, it cannot be dropped/traded/etc and the only way to be rid of it is unbinding... which destroys it.
5: Genies totally depend on what you plan on using them for. There are some universally desirable skills for them (Tree of Protection, Extreme Poison, Thunderstorm (PvP), etc) but it really depends on the person and their play style.
6: Yeah. Plenty of factions will invite people regardless of level. There's no actual apprenticeship type system here, though, so it would be purely for them to increase their faction size or such.
7: HH is the MY-EN term for TT, which is short for Twilight Temple: a high level instance used for gaining materials for certain armors as well as all those weapons that glow green. It's also used in some quests, but most people go through it for either the gear, or to sell he materials you can gain in it.
8: Depends on what you do. For simple grinding, you don't need it (though it DOES help), but for some instances, things like charms are a must. Same with in PvP too. Fortunately, you can use in-game coin to purchase gold via the Auction House. You won't really need to even consider it until level 50 for your supply stash weapon.0 -
Thanks a lot for all your inputs. I really appreciate. This has really provided me with some insight as to what to expect.
Also one more question, many guides state that the trial crossbow (attained through a FB) is the best post level 20 and till early thirties I guess. From what I read in guides, FB usually refers to a dungeon instance in which we would have to fight a boss. Is this possible for a person to complete alone at the level of 20 or would I need to get more people to help me out on this? If a group has to complete it, would everyone in the group get the weapon?0 -
Only a veno can solo their FB19 at the leel they get it (and even then hey'd have plenty of difficulty).
You will need a squad to get it done. Fortunately, geting a squad for a FB is easy. Just stand in plume and say "seeking help for FB19", then enjoy the flood of PMs0 -

The Trial Crossbow is a reward of a quest related to the FB, so you would only get it if you haven't completed the quest yet.If you disregard what I say because of who I am or because of the contents of what I said, you are a fool.

If you do happen to get a moonlight bow then take to mold to the legendary weapon forge near General Summer (you'll get plenty of quests to go to Summer in your 20s). You'll need to have blacksmith skill at level 2 and 15 each of pig iron, coal dust, logs, and sandstone to make it though.Only a veno can solo their FB19 at the leel they get it (and even then hey'd have plenty of difficulty).

Only a veno with a herc can solo FBs at the level they're given (trust me, I've tried with magmites).Meh, saw a couple other people doing this so...

Thanks a lot for the information. It has really been helpful.
As per my current status, I am level 12 (almost 50%) and have acquired lvl2 of blacksmith, tailoring and apothecary. I was able to make some of the lvl2 armours which I would be able wear soon enough.
Now after looking at the weapon/armour crafting menus I have a small doubt. Do different blacksmiths/tailors provide different equipments for manufacturing? I mean for the same level bow (say lvl2) would different blacksmith provide different bows which are better than some?0 -

If you had put as much effort into playing the game as you have in writing these posts you'd be lvl 25 by now. Armor doesnt matter much until you are 65 or so. You won't be keeping any of your equipment for that long until you get the fb19 xbow. Just get through these levels as quickly and as fun as you can so you can get to the parts where equipment will matter.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

@Asterelle
Thanks for the information on the armours. Forgive me if I like to plan ahead a lot. This is the only I dont do something stupid when I am really high level. It would be difficult if at lvl30 I release I hadnt taken the right skills or the right lvls. Besides, I am posting while taking a break at work and once home I play (despite constant interruptions). Also I am not a fast leveller by nature and like to take things a little slow.0 -
Good thing about this game is the ability to reset your stat points if you wish, later in the game. Appearances can be changed, genies can be resetted, etc. Any mistakes this early in the game won't have much of an impact. Worst case scenario would require you to remake the archer and spend another few hours on it.
I made the mistake of adding 10 vit points because I read vit boosts your defenses as well as hp, but I'm still killing things before they can reach me (Btw do not add vit)
So, just play, try things out for yourself. A few more levels and you should get into a helpful faction.0 -
The only thing you cant undo is learning skills. The only one that would be a mistake to learn is knockback arrow past lvl 1. Leave it at 1 and you'll be fine.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

but good news is skills only cost spirit and money. both of which you can easily get by killing monsters. (will set you back a bit though if you up the wrong skills since spells get very expensive~~~ very quickly) DX
*also whats taking you so long? O.o i joined on the same month you did (X_x) and got my archer to level 14 in a day* (rerolled to a wizard though but still go back from time to time ^.^)darthpanda16: Firefox crashed on me. Aryannamage: I don't think I am a GM that would be new.
