Well.. Can you imagine chat filters being too sensitive? It might block out ****isstance, assassian, or any other 'vulgar' section of a non vulgar word. And I certainly do not want a game with an overly strong filter. In every single conversation you will be guessing at what regular word the filter blocks.

It's oversensitive as is, I think they should implement a filter on/off switch cuz I like my swearz D:<

The best system we can have right now is reporting and banning, because the AI technology is far from advance enough to make a reasonable filter. Player easily surpass the current technology filter, while the filter usually block the wrong one.
Oh, if you are so clever that you can design a filter that work properly, perhap you should show me the patent?
Filter on chat and name should be almost the same, because whatever word you can use in chat you can use in name too, so there isn't a distinction.

We have to keep in mind that thanks to the "international" tag, most people think of this as a truly international game, and thus we have people from all languages and countries. Which makes filtering even worse. A perfectly innocent word in one language might seem like an attempt-to-bypass-filter name and cause a ban.

    Example: Jacoph.

The zealot-banner sees "Jac-off", and BOOM, insta-ban for something that is actually a real name.

And don't even get me started on 'naughty' words in other languages... Unless the filter was tweaked so it takes whole words and not merely parts of a word to censor (so we can write "assisstance", but not "****"), then everything anyone writes will come out as nothing but t*** s***s if ** is **ple******d.

Go to urbandictionary.com, type in an innocent looking noun, you are most likely going to find a sexual meaning attached to it, and many people find sex to be offensive.
I learned a lot of offensive meaning to innocent word when I played a game with oversensitive filter, such as "clam", "scroll", "blackhole", etc.

I agree about this but then there is always going to be a way to bypass the filter. If you filter every name, or way a name can be typed you are going to make a lot of players upset that they cannot communicate to friends without this ***** happening on normal words. Even for the naming pets and people could end up pretty bad.

I think submitting a ticket and a screen shot works best at this. Unfortunately GM's cannot be everywhere at every time of the day when these people are in game. Remember this game makes a profit of their world chat system with tele's they cannot bar people from talking too much. Just do your part and send a ticket. You are always going to have some fool who wants to be funny and make a ridiculous name, and he's always going to find a way to do it.

Oh my god what a bunch of babies. It's the internet. This game's censored enough already; I don't think the devs need to cater to people who've never seen dirty words or can't raise their kids properly.

the biggest thing here i think is that what may be offensive to you, is not to others. Infact i find the filter its self right out offensive, why should i have to wright pen!s and not ****? whats wrong with a ****?
i understand u mention children but thats the parents job at this point to turn off certain chats, such as normal and find them a guild where they are age appropriate, u are their guardian after all, u decide what ur children see and dont see. personaly i learned everything "inappropriate" on the school bus, not video games. and in the end if that isnt good enough why are your children playing such a game where this is going to happen? there are no rating for online interactions because it can not be controlled, its ppl not the game. ur speaking to the wrong audience in the end.

As long as people still use such language, its not censored enough. Until people stop with the language period, it should be like that episode of family guy where the FCC starts to censor real life.b:laugh

It's just like I said with the trade restrictions I'd put in a game. If you don't like being restricted, don't scam. Here, if you don't like being filtered, don't use the language in the first place.

Remove the need to have the filter.

Well, since you're so in favour of censorship, your post should be censored, you said period, someone could take offense to that. Naturally it doesn't matter in the least that it's meaning is completely dependent upon the context it's used in. In fact, should also censor your server, non-Christians might take offense to the use of the word Heaven, while we're at it, let's censor the Christmas Tome for the same reason. Oh, and wizards, barbarians, worst of all venomancers since they can look demonic, those have to go too, and all the undead, goodness someone could take offense to the fact the characters wield deadly weapons like swords. Well heck, guess we'll just have to shut Perfect World down altogether and replace it with something nobody could possibly take offense to.

Personally, I would like to see a stronger naming filter, with a weaker (or preferably, the option to turn it off) chat filter. Everyone has to see a players name so a required filter there makes sense. Not everyone has to see what someone is typing, a required filter there makes no sense.

Maybe I'm in the minority here, I don't know but I get far more offended (or perhaps agitated is a better word) at having my text or text I'm reading turned to a *. Unlike many others, my opposition to it doesn't exist due to freedom of speech, as that doesn't exist on private servers, but rather my opposition is having the game determine what I want to read for me. I think this is a very poor design choice for the game and one I see no need for when there could instead be a blacklist and a language filter that can be turned off or even customized to the user.

there's no way to enforce word filtering without blocking other words. english is not the only spoken language in game...

off-topic: it would be nice to add broader support for non-english languages. i can't even write words like blaho.gif

I say get over it. I am not offended by anything i have seen. If the prudes of the world cant get over the fact that its a game, and they don't want to see something. IGNORE it. or don't play at all. The more of a bid deal you make of it, the more of a big deal its gonna be.

I am sick of censorship! Look at England, they show nudity on TV all the time they cuss on regular TV, and there are far less ****, and pervs then in the USA. The more you make things naughty and immoral, the more kids are gonna want to be involved with it. So get over it and stop whining about it.

I think the point is that you can be as young as 13 to play PWI, and just because you're not offended doesn't mean that 13-year-olds should see it.

Also, I'm pretty sure those two facts are unrelated. I don't think nudity on British TV reduces **** there b:shocked

well you realize kids are going to be exposed to it one way or another. movies, tv, even school...

to be realistic, even if the filters were more effective, people will get past it. some punk is always going to bypass it with numbers or slashes or something. the only thing you can do is submit a ticket with a screenshot and get the guy banned.

I don't think it is necessarily about the prudes of the world "getting over it". I think it comes down to having respect for your fellow human being. Some people are offended by language, some people play with their young children, and some people just want to come into an environment that isn't filled with the same **** they get on CNN, FOX, or even in their work environment.

Yes kids will be exposed to it, whether we want them to or not, but that doesn't make it right.

Personally, I find some of the ways around the word filter creative and humorous, but I also respect my fellow man that might be offended by not participating in this.

let me give you my 2 cents on your topic, you really can't take a joke can you i mean if you take the name seriously and take it offensive for what there name is don't play the game not everyone who is in this game is as mature as you
saying things that refer to STD, Ect you might wanna join a different server because i think your in the server harshland and people are like that in harshland and we love it it has drama, sexual humor, WC fighting, Ect. saying the game will end with these kinda names and what people say is overboard. here is some advice if you can't deal with it leave that's all because were not changing for some QQer who has a prob with these names
If anniversary pack threads keep getting made I'll keep trolling them until there isn't anymore!b:bye
