sometimes the colours of my clothes (but never my armour..?) look on my computer different than I think it looks to the rest of the world. Examples:
2009-08-2013-27-39.jpg
2009-08-0508-15-26.jpg

In both those images, the tops are not supposed to be solid colour, they're supposed to have white and whatnot. My question is, how do I fix this? (can I fix this?)

moving this to tech support. I'm pretty sure it's a video card issue

I'm going to need some more information from you about your computer. Go to Start, click on Run (or Search if using Vista), and type in dxdiag and press enter.

Click on the Display tab, and then post here everything in the Device and Drivers boxes:

Unfortunately, your video chipset falls just slightly below our minimum system requirements. The result of this is that while you can play the game, you will likely continue to see graphical errors such as this.

ah, thank you. Now I know. If I wanted to fix this, is it doable? Like, is it an issue where I can replace the video card, or...?

Unfortunately, it's an integrated chipset which would necessitate replacing the entire system.

Umm, if he has expansion slots for AGP, PCI or PCIe, he can get an expansion video card.

EDIT: Without replacing his entire mobo..... (He didn't say he was using a labtop, and neither did his dxdiag)

With that old of a video chipset built in, he might have AGP or ancient PCI.

Newer video cards that are AGP are pretty much pointless, as it is like having a Ferrari sports car stuck on a go-kart track, and errors can occur.

A newer overall system may be preferred, as the CPU and RAM are probably underpowered too, a new video card may over balance the system and the power supply may not be able to handle it.

So tell him to get an ATI 9250.... Thats PCI and 128 MB. Plus its like $30 bucks and I know it will run this game.

Or he can buy a Nvidia Geforce 7300 SE. 256 MB and costs about the same. PCI. It will also run this game. Very well I might add.

    Very low power requirements.

Cost of newer card vs entire system. Since obviously, we can see his computer CAN play the game, he just needs a video upgrade.

I don't know where you learned your IT Technician skills at darth, but where I come from and from what I learned, we try to save the customer money and provide them the best assistance we can. Our first recommendation to a customer should NEVER be "Buy a new PC". It should be (In this situation) "Well lets see if we can save you some money by upgrading your Video." PCI isn't bad, and neither is AGP.

You make it sound like Perfect World has outstanding graphical requirements. It doesn't, by a long shot. Just about ANY 512 AGP card or heck, even 256 could handle this game no problem. Its not like crysis where he needs a dual core/quad core, 4 gigs of ram and a 1 GB card minimum.

But thats just my observation, and I think I'm getting a little too pissed at the technical suggestions around here for upgrading hardware.

well I really appreciate the help, I am using a PC and not a laptop, but to be honest I dont really understand all the technical jargon, so if I went into like best buy or went to newegg, what would I ask for/look for? Just a video card? Specifically what kind of video card? or... something?

(hah, sorry I'm such a techno idiot.)

Pretty much what they are saying is, your computer will most likely fail with a new Video/Graphics card. So basically you wanna ask for a new PC ~.^

Right... by just looking at his dxdiag info from his display adapter, they can determine whether or not his pc is ****... RIGHT....

I'll pm you my email address and we can go from there. I'll do whatever I can in my spare time to get you up to speed and help get you where you need to be.

Its not rocket science, and our goal here is to give you a little more performance without needing a new PSU.

Many people do not know how to upgrade their PC, and something as simple as upgrading a video card can be very intimidating.

    His monitor is from 2006.

His video chipset is integrated, has low system specs with a max of 64mb, which means his motherboard is way out of date that that video chipset is built into, and most likely the CPU won't be that great either being from 4+ years ago.

So yes, he could upgrade to a video card for cheap in the $50 range or lower, but with the fantastic video cards that are out now that are PCIe around $70 or so, he could have a much bigger performance boost. His motherboard doesn't support PCIe, hence he can't use it.

The video card will wind up being the most powerful thing in his PC, and if it is PCI or AGP, the performance is still going to be sub standard because of the bandwidth restrictions of the PCI bus. It is like having a Ferrari on a go-kart track.

Players can get a used or new PC or laptop for cheap with a decent nVidia chipset, newer motherboard, CPU, PSU, faster RAM, and more HDD space for a lower price versus the cost of trying to keep up a PC that is 4+ years old alive in parts as certain parts wear out, overheat, etc.

This helps future proof our players so hopefully they'll have another 2-3 years out of a newer system and can play our games with minimal to no issues.

To sum this up, the motherboard that his chipset has, even with a newer video card, while he will get a performance boost and be able to play the game, he won't be getting the max performance that he could.

    That's all I'm saying. b:victory
