Annoyed with chatbox

Is there any way i dont have to press enter everytime i wanna type something
when i lag n i think im typing i end up opening all kinda windows
wich makes me lag even more b:angry

    Yeah, it's annoying. It's even worse than you think - if you're in the middle of typing and something happens (like, say, a party invite, or reaching your autopath destination) then the chat loses focus and you start opening up all manner of boxes.

    yeh i have that too, or i start to jump cause i pressed spacebar
    so i guess theres no option to change that ?b:sad

    So, how would you actually go about moving? If you had this option of not pressing enter, typing either wasd would not move your character. That would not fix any problems.

    The real solution is to change those stupid interruptions. Such as leaving safe zone, squad invite, someone left squad, or any of those.

    Wait, wait.. are you talking about chat box as in Friend's list chat box or the common chat box? If it's about Friend's list/multiple one, I think ctrl+enter works. Should be more clear, I don't understand if you mean "press as in actually typing pressing or clicking.

    thats the whole issue, having to select it again to type something

    Why not just press enter... like the other 98465745682567346386386mmorpgs that do the same thing. I seriously do not understand your problem, based on your OP, you just refuse to press enter to type?

    i said it was annoying to press enter or click in the chatbox
    to talk again since if i lag, i think i could type but i couldnt
    n end up opening all the windows or i jump wich make the whole game freeze

    dont accuse me of being lazy if you dont understand
    a word of what im saying.

    to explain it better
    i dont like the fact that if you type something
    for example, hi whats up.?
    n then have to press enter again to say something new
    in another mmorpg i played you could just continue a new sentence
    without activating the chatbox again

    maybe i should put this in the suggestion section

    and how exactly you would fight monsters, heal etc if you wouldn't need press enter every time to type something? having to click on every skill you wanna use would be much more annoying

    OK, I think I understand the OP and some of the others totally missed the point.

    The chat window essentially loses focus any time something happens in the game (i.e. receiving a party invite, changing areas, arriving at the auto-path point). So, you can be merrily typing away and something happens to cause the focus to be shifted away from what you're writing to the game and then the keys you press perform their ingame functions instead of writing words, thereby opening 2 bajillion windows and making you jump around.

    I agree it is a very frustrating thing to go through; personally, I got used to it now, but it did take me a LONG time (since closed beta, and before that PWMY b:chuckle).

    If this was put in the suggestions forum and something was done about it, it would certainly be a welcome change from my point of view :).

    Immortelle, also, if you want to have a long chat session with someone, you can right click their name and click 'Personal Chat' which will open up something like a IM box - your cursor always stays in this window when you are typing, unless you do something in the game to shift the focus away from it. Remember, you have to press Ctrl + Enter in this box to send a message, since Enter key just creates a new line.

    If the issue is what you (Belial) are explaining, then I completely agree. Its annoying as hell. But, judging from the OP's posts, he/she states that he/she doesnt want to hit enter after typing every sentence to open up the chatbox again.

    i assume your skills are on the F-balk
    if you press that nothing happens in chat
    so you can still fight n chatbox is also active
    sure if you have skills on the numbers 1 till 9
    itll be a bit harder, but i didnt mean that

    lets say youre just sitting around
    n talkin to someone in [for example] faction chat
    n you kinda have a long story, you notice that everytime
    you send a message, you have to press enter again to be able to type
    if you dont press enter you cant type n that leads into opening windows
    like Map or Pet bag and in normal situations it isnt that much of bother
    but if you lag - or freeze or get a sudden invite then it is annoying

    n soon as you wanna walk again you have to click to stand up anyway
    or if you wanna fight you have to select the mob/player
    then chat does get unactive. meaning you cant type anymore
    so you can jsut walk around with WASD or use 1-9
    but soon as you press enter to activate chat, it should be active
    untill you click out of it again to continue your fighting or w/e youre doing

    understand me a bit more now >:?

    no i meant that you have to press enter everytime you wanna type something new, i dont mind pressing enter to activate chat, i jsut wnana be able to continue typing in a row since you cant make long sentences in chat
    for example like

    omg im feeling so happy today, my bf asked me to marry him but
    ENTER
    i dunno what to say, im scared a bit since its a big thing but on the
    ENTER
    other hand i rlly wanna be iwth him forever so yeh idk so what do
    ENTER

    Sorry LloydAsplund, 10 points to you for reading the post right, it was me who totally missed the point ;).

    In this case, you can use my last option.

    Using the IM kinda chat box system bypasses the need to press enter every time you want to type a reply :).

    Right click the name of your friend, click Chat or Join Chat or however it's called and then you get a IM chat box. You do not need to press enter in there if you wish to have a long chat with someone :). You need to press Ctrl+Enter to actually send the message on though.

    Its perfectly fine the way I see hit. If we use your suggestion, we would have to hit enter again to deactivate the chatbox. Which is even worse imho.

    you dont have to press enter to deactivate
    if you wanna select a mob or npc youll have to click on it anyway
    so when you do that chat deactivates

    ah well. b:surrender
    ill just try to use the other chat
    even tho ctrl+enter doesnt sound that fun either
    i see no harm in them turning that into only enter
    maybe one day b:pleased

    If you dont deactivate it, how the hell can you move? or open up any menus using the hotkeys or wasd?

    cause you deactivate it soon as you click somewhere outside it?
    as in *menu tabs or npc or a mob or just the ground*
    just when you press enter it will not deactive untill you click on something
    else again[see *], but seems like im the only one liking that way best b:surrender

    If you are used to other games that don't require enter to be pressed in order to chat it's a bit annoying to get used to (Those games wouldn't use WASD for walking and only have F1-F12 for skills, use ctrl or alt+letter to open inv etc). You do get used to it though, even though I still forget to press enter sometimes. Or I have chat box activated while I'm trying to use skills and lose aggro that way while tanking b:chuckle. The only bad design issue is about the losing focus upon entering/leaving zones/party invites etc.
