Bramble Guard

I'm trying to figure out what I should be socketing, and any other advice from other venos if possibly.

So how exactly does bramble guard work?

Let's say my bramble guard reflects 25% damage. So if I get hit for 100 damage I only take 75 damage and 25 damage is rebounded?

Or is it I take 100 damage and 25 damage is rebounded? Or what? If the former is right, then I should be socketing a whole bunch of hp stones and not defense right?

Yes that is probably the simplest way to show how bramble works, 25% of that damage is returned..so yes, if something dealt 100 damage, 25% would be returned

If your a veno you won't need many hp stones, if at all, because you have your pet taking the damage while you deal it. Some veno's send their pet after one thing and attack another to make quests/grinding quicker, so they would use a few HP stones to help with this. But the higher your defence is, the less damage you will take because you have a higher resistance. Not saying you should avoid them forever, I sometimes put a HP stone in my hat or on my cape just for an extra boost, but defence is better unless your someone like a barb or a Blademaster because they put a lot more into strength than others, so would use HP shards more.

    that's what I think anyway

The way it works with my pet (can see the reflect numbers), bramble reflects damage based on an unbuffed pdef (i.e. damage reflected before buff modifier kicks in to reduce damage done to yourself). Don't know if it works on chars exactly like that too.

That one. Damage is not reduced, only that the attacker receive a % of the damage he did to you on himself

Thanks Brit for the sig b:laugh

I was thinking in pvp let's say. If I had a lot of hp and low defense...then if I got hit, they would take most of the damage once bramble guard is level 6 or so I think. I'm not sure if I should be socketing defense right now or hp. def can only take physical damage, but hp can take both. idk.

Isn't there a sticky somewhere giving the optimal balance point between pdef and HP?

    With graphs and everything.

In general, if you have high pdef, you want HP shards, high HP you want pdef shards.
Reflect doesn't work in PVP anyway, so that reason is gone - and in PVE you don't want to be hit at all.

Reflect from bramble guard works in pvp. Bramble hood doesn't since a few patches ago though.

I put hp shards in everything except my weapon. I use my belt, rings, necklace to buff my defence.

Personally, I would recommend you imbue hp shards later on. Especially if you aiming for a herc and is an arcane veno, they need hp to survive TT bosses' aoe in order to tank effectively.

PvP as in TW, or PvP as in world map. Because last time I checked, it didn't work on the world map PvP.

As in TW. Either that, or some of our 9x cat barbs are stupid for asking for it lol. I remember there being excessive QQing when bramble hood got nerfed, but don't remember any mentions of bramble guard not working. Kinda figured it would work the same in open world pvp as well, but I stand corrected b:thanks

As for open world pvp, I don't see much of it being on a PvE server, and when I do I tend to avoid melee range so I really can't answer that one. Might try it out when I come across a pk enabled veno :p
