Okay, ive got a question. Ive heard a lot of ppl say Calamity Axes rock, where as others say they suck. Personally, I dont like the idea of sacrificing 5% of my hp just for extra dmg. I want your opinions. And please, if you havent used Calamity Axes, or dont use axes with your bm at all, please dont comment. I dont want this thread to turn into a flame war. Thank you for your opinons/info.

Theres a reason why even 8x BM/barbs use calamities. They're mostly PvP based axes, and if you plan on doing PvE only, then I will suggest not getting them. There are cheaper alternatives than calamities for PvE such as the thunderbolt axes or the ones that heal hp at lvl 80.

Personally I think calamities rock, but then again all my characters are always charmed. Also berserk isn't just some more damage, its DOUBLE damage, so you can do quadruple your normal damage if you get a berserk crit, and if the enemy is debuffed that can get up to ALOT of damage. Though yes berserk is a very painful skill it can be very powerful, it really just comes down to a few things. 1) your situation. 2) how suicidal you are ^^ Alot of people tend to prefer gloom over berserk though simply because it takes 5% of your mp instead of your hp, though it doesn't do double damage.
I will not hesitate to beat you over the head with your own stupidity.

Personally for me Calamitys are more a PvP weapon than PvE, since the zerk hits helps and is sometimes needed to take down another player, but in PvE they can cause more of a problem vs the good they do (and Im talking about vs bosses ).
I've seen a few Bm's nearly come unstuck when thry zerk to often while being hit by a bosses aoe or grab agro from a herc (not hard to do I know but zerking doesnt help and is out of the players control unless he unequips the axe's)

So for me PvP : A good weapon
PvE : They are not really needed

Thanks for the quick replys. I dont plan on doing a whole lot of PvP, except for the occasional TW. And as for the berserk portion, I prefer to place survivablity over dmg. I dont like the idea of losing x amount of hp while fighting bosses/mobs. Again, thanks for the opinions, guys.

    PVP: Calamities
    PVE: 1v1 other TT70 axes
    PVE AOE Grind: Calamities
If you're going to aoe grind, calamities are the way to go. Think of it this way, you can sacrifice 5% of your max hp to do double damage to every single mob you hit with your aoe. You kill the mobs faster= you take less damage overall.

    PVP: worth it
    PVE: not worth it

It has to do with the berserk, losing hp for more attack. It gives the fast spike damage that kill players before charm tick, but when tanking a boss, can become a serious liability, since the extra attack drains your own hp and will hardly make a dent in the boss's hp pool.

    PvE: Calamities

If you're serious about best method to level up, you're doing rebirth. And Calamities are great for that. No better way to level up, so PvE is Calamities as well.

EDIT: In case someone mentions bosses again, we do have other weapon branches, and even other axes. I use Calamities for the AoE, switch to Dark Flash on boss for damage and chi building, to keep a constant stream of Heaven's Flame and Myriad going on the boss on recharge. Random aggro drops to only 50-50 chance of whooping someone.
Fist are the worst at PvP AND PvE, if you disagree, as I said, take it to PM's or make your own guide. Go here if you want to debate about it. - Lyndura

Get a High lvl Fist warrior use it, Restat to axes. GG - complexx

well i am a sword/axe hybrid as of a few days ago...and i am wondering whether it is worth me spending all that money on calamities when i could just go for some decent TT70 axes and a decent blade and rock both worlds? in every BH quest i do, i never use axes, i just pwn with swords and hit myriad to debuff...dont need AoE much as clerics and venos constantly complain that i take aggro .. well why do they think AoE's were implemented in the first place? =S anyway, more to the point, if i am only going to PK like a few hours a week, and mostly zhen and spam BH 2 times a day, is it worth me spending that much on calamities?

Depends, you wanna use calamites as an off weapon the rest of the game or do you want to get the TT berserk axes? Also if you plan on participating in TWs sooner rather than later I suggest spending for the calamities.

If you are a hybrid user than I'd definitely go for calamities, as you will only be using them for AoEing anyway, which is where they shine (especially when partied with EPs). 5% of your HP really isn't a lot when you compare it with the amount of damage the group of monsters around you can do in the time you do 1 hit.

never chose calamities for PvE. How can u AoE grind with them? It takes off ur hp by 5% when u succeed double hit so u will be dead before kill half mobs. Of course, if u are boutique user and buy a lot of charms then this weap would be good.

It only hits you for 5% of your health once when activated. So if you do an aoe and it zerks. You only lose 5% once. Not for each mob hit by one aoe.

Compare. If you are aoeing 10 mobs, each one doing around 175 dmg to you. So every time the group hits you you're taking 1,750 damage. 5% of your max hp to deal double damage to EVERY single mob in the aoe is definitely worth it.

I disagree...Calamity axe is a very good axe to aoe with even if you don't use charm. That 5% hp loss is worth it for the double damage on mobs and you can kill a lot faster with it. You have a skill called sutra...use it..love it and never forget it (in addition, use tree of protection). I aoe without charm all the time and that double damage helped me kill off mobs much faster than other axe and sutra/apoth pots/genie skill is plenty to keep me alive from losing a mere 5%.

Till this day, I still use it because I got no money for gold zerk axe yet (It still serve me well at lvl 89-96 mobs). Star axe and the damage output is definitely more than my calamity but why I don't want to waste money on star axe since I'm aiming for a gold axe anyway.

If your gonna 1vs1 PVE Grind then NO If you are gonna AOE grind on mobs that drop decent DQ and you got a sufficient summ of money for charms or you use a genie with Tree of Protection for the odd time you can use that genie skill it'll save your charm sooo much..

    but simple terms

    PVP = Calamity
PVE = ThunderBolt or Heraldry (If your in the 70s)
    AOE Grind = Calamity
