Soo, im working on a music piece for a composition competition (is this correct english? hope so) at the end of this year. I've written an intro, a theme and worked out the theme for a bit, but I have absolutely no idea how to move on now. ANY advice or tips are welcome :D

Max duration is 5 min. I can only use the instruments I've used so far. In the package that you can download there is a mp3 file and a pdf file with the sheetmusic. Please note that the music on the mp3 is made by a Computer! It are no real instruments and therefor it doesnt sound nice.

Oh, and if you don't like this music style (which is bit movie music, bit classical), just don't post, no use for me to know if you don't like it at all. But if you do like it, please say b:chuckle

Download link: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=TBY4KI24

Hope you'll enjoy it:)

Actually you can create artificially made computer music with realistic sounding instruments depending on the sound font/bank used and software used to compose it. Although very expensive and huge, there are some professional appliances out there that allow you to make music sounding almost as real as a real real thing. b:mischievous

My Great aunt uses sibelius and loves it, i myself prefer FL studio (formerly fruity loops) and on a MAC obviously PROtools because PT is just so bad@$$.....
Can you send me just a piano score please? I saw you had the full score in pdf format, if you could send me just a piano score I would wish to learn the part and maybe give you some suggestions to add into it. Thanks ^_^

The piano part isnt the problem, I play it myself and its good, I might chance a few details myself. The problem is what to do next, I dont have any inspiration...

I don't know if this will help you, but here is my take:

Intro is boring. Give it a purpose- building tension? setting mood? Once you accomplish that, stop. If you don't have more ideas, don't draw out what you have over its natural length.

You might want to imagine a story while you compose. Ie. latter part of your piece sounds like a royal procession. So imagine a movie scene that might fit with it. What happens first, next, last? If you can come up with a mental story, I think the flow of music will follow.

Another comment is, your theme is repeated way way too much, with very little variation. After a few times you really get sick of it, which could be why you don't know how to continue. My imagined solution would be to start from scratch with just your theme notes. Develop the idea instead of simply repeating it: Imagine varied continuations for it. Put it in the background to counterpoint some other melody, for a change. Or totally break apart from it for a bit.

I know it is very hard to set aside so many hours of carefully tweaked work, but investing some time in planning out your overall structure might be worth it ^^

THank you very much, this was what I needed. For the boringness of the intro, I am able to put in alot more dynamics with real instruments of course, try to imagine that.
