Do the +water/earth/fire damage shards add on to magic damage or just physical?

Good question actually.... b:avoid
If they do boost magic attacks, I bet only the corrosponding magic skill's element.Non-mule characters:

Yeah :O, cause my friend bought 3 perfect shards thinking they boost that elements magic attack :P. I was like no way i thought it only applies to physical attack.0 -
Apparently they increase physical non-skill attacks. IE. wacking the damned mob.I was early taught to work as well as play,
My life has been one long, happy holiday;
Full of work and full of play-
I dropped the worry on the way-
And God was good to me everyday.0 -
I really suggest you just go for the mag atk/def shards instead of individual element shards anyway, unless you want different armour and weapons for dealing with different element mobs, which is a very expensive approach still.Non-mule characters:

Normal weapon attacks only.
Even f they applied to skills, a garnet/sapphire would become better once you got out of the lower levels.0 -
So wait ... if I put a beautiful aquamarine (wood) on my veno's weapon, (since all or almost all of their magical attacks are wood based) it doesn't make her attacks stronger?[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Roll a barb on Sanctuary for hot cleric action. b:kiss0 -
Elemental Shards (such as the ones used in CS) only improve normal physical attacks and do nothing for Magical Attacks from what I hear.0

when socketed into your weapon, they add elemental damage of the shard's type for STANDARD ATTACKS (not skills/spells/abilities)
when socketed into your armor, they add to that element's resistance
they are, for all intents and purposes, useless... unless you have armor with single resists, in which case you can give that single resistance an uberboost b:chuckleb:bye0 -

Pretty usefull for grinding actually if you're a caster,can pick up high grade stones cheaply and make say,a water resist set on crappy robes and go wild on water attack mobs.Quit 100%...and surprised my forum account wasn't banned...yet0 -
