...odd thing is, i dont have a problem with my build, its just one or two people who love to snipe at me, and the way i play. and they do it because they must be bored, and have nothing better to do with their time.

the pets i use, are the same ones that were the top pets when the game started. i play a veno because i enjoy the pets. i have trouble with some things, but those are times when the game creators intended a squad to be used. the things i wish i could have are just that....wishes, like going through the old Sears Christmas catalog, and circling the toys you wish you could get. maybe someday i might be able to get them. right now, not a chance.

and as for pressure from other players, its people who think that anyone who doesnt have a herc are losers who dont play the way they do. i would never dream of telling someone that, and find that kind of rudness depressing. if i have a friend who is messed up, i do what i can with them, in a kind and gentle way, giving what i can to help whatever the situation is. but that has not been the case with venos who have spoken to me ingame or here...its been more often than not an attack. nonsensical....there are venos who play many different ways...why target me? or anyone, for that matter.

the point of the game is to beat the wraiths, not each other.

    and

the point of this thread was cruelty to a depressed person. how bout thinking how to help him, guys?

Games are therapy, however you have to know how to separate playing a game casually from trying to be on top of everything. There's a significant difference in the time required to play this game on the lower end of things at any level, and this isn't unique to just this game. I'm honestly at a loss to see how you find this game hard, truth is this is by far the easiest MMO I've ever played. Here's some comparisons to another MMO I play that has a monthly fee.
This game: GM's give everyone the times on long respawn mobs (indirectly) provided you can do a little addition/multiplication.
Other game: You have 3-7 day respawns (with random 12 hour adjustments) with no indication of who killed something or when. Unless you're the one that killed it previously, then you can farm it and have a monopoly.

This game: The math for the game is mostly straight forward. What you see in your stat window is mostly what you've got (noticed a few exceptions so far).
Other game: Your stat window is meaningless, the stats you're shown aren't your real stats. Some stats hit hardcaps at 1/10 the value you're shown to have, but there's no documentation of when stats cap like that. Furthermore, they don't even function the way they're claimed to.

This game: It's fairly easy to see if items are an upgrade.
Other game: Items with higher stats aren't necessarily upgrades, it depends on each individual character, and in order to figure out if something is an upgrade you have to record hundreds of thousands of combat rounds and look at averages, then take into consideration that other opponents will behave differently to that upgrade. Fortunately recording the hits themselves is automated.

This game: GM's respond within 1-3 days and accept screenshots.
Other game: GM's respond within 1-3 days but refuse to accept any proof of something occuring unless they personally witness it.

This game: The most rigorous possible schedule is making 3 TW's a week at a set time, and some other things that spawn once a day. That puts you on top.
Other game: The high end players look at 20-30 hours a week at set times, plus needing to be online outside of that to build their character, plus additional time to farm.

This game: If you mess up the parts of your character you can customize, you can reset it.
Other game: If you mess up the customizable parts of your character, you can't reset it. Ever.

I could go on but I've probably gotten the point across, and the funny thing is on top of all that... I can't think of that game ever once being called hard, and I've played it for almost 11 years.

Here's another example of a free browser game I used to play. The casual player could log in, trade with people, attack with people, build their cities, and so on. It took maybe 90 minutes a day and is rather fun. Once you go higher though, you start having to look at peoples scores to determine all possible military setups, spying on them, building profiles of when they're online, finding them on the game board, and so on. The overall process once you rule out vacations, schedule changes, and so on... essentially required people to stalk each other online for 1-2 months in order to attack them and take their stuff (main purpose of the game). That's in addition to needing to play the game for about 8 hours a day, and compile databases on people.

All MMO's get complicated and exponentially more time consuming at the high end, but that doesn't make them difficult. This game is really excellent in that it allows people to minimize time spent online if they want, and are willing to pay for it.

As for the social pressure on venos... I don't see it, and I have my herc/nix. Nothing says you have to compete with others, infact unless you're in the top faction on your server you can't keep up with the best anyways so I don't see how that point is relevant.

People... Where's your sense of privacy... Sense of humor...

Don't really like people who randomly talk about their nephew's cancer, dead dog, beating up some other man, wanting not to be a virgin, massively needing drama in faction (or any other public) chat or environment. Unless the environment consists of your friends ONLY - which means: no strangers.

I mean... What else could you (a random person) say to something like that?

Just be quiet... Or well, get pssed and say something like that bad character in the example post in the beginning.

i was kicked out of the faction for telling this guy to not say that

To be straight and not troll here, any faction that would kick you out because you asked them not to say something like that, is honestly not worth being in. Find yourself a different faction.

3-4 years ago during my rebellious phase while I was playing different online games,
When people talk of suicide, I encourage them to do it.
(Like just saying,"Ok just do it.")

And each time I did that, I was muted or had a temporary ban.
Then the Moderators will usually give a lecture about how I shouldn't do that since theres another human being behind that computer that might actually consider that option or whatever you said to bring them down.

Im not sure if that offense is bannable but really, I wouldn't encourage anyone to do suicide for their sake. Though, im not one to give hope.

Just ignore it without further comment.

i 've worked with people that upset for many years, and believe me, its not good to ignore them. its a cry for help, if ignored, it confirmes that no one cares and often they carry out the threat. in a case like this, i would not do it where everyone could hear, but do it in whisper, then find a way to talk to them at lenght, till they have calmed down. sometimes it takes all night, and they are ready to go get real help from their doctor.

im not saying that you guys should do this-its something i can do, but not everyone can. but please, whenever you find someone that upset, be it ingame or IRL, please, be kind to them. their life may be in your hands.

Telling someone to commit suicide maybe against the TOS in the first place. If there are children or adults talking like this in guild chat, it would help to pm them and tell them to talk to their parents, or a doctor about those feelings. It's less liability for yourself if the police happen to find out you told that person to commit suicide and they actually done it. You can't control a mentally ill person, or stop them from playing a game, but you can control what you yourself say.

    # (a) User Content that is unlawful, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, indecent, lewd, suggestive, harassing, threatening, invasive of privacy or publicity rights, abusive, inflammatory, fraudulent or otherwise objectionable;
    # (b) User Content that would constitute, encourage or provide instructions for a criminal offense, violate the rights of any party, or that would otherwise create liability or violate any local, state, national or international law,
    (h) User Content that violates the Rules of Conduct or that, in the sole judgment of PWE, is objectionable or which restricts or inhibits any other person from using or enjoying the Interactive Areas or the Site, or which may expose PWE or its users to any harm or liability of any type.

(suicide and suggesting suicide is a criminal offense)

Also in my dealing with this kind of thing in mmo's i find a lot of times it's for attention, but because they get flamed you find they decide to carry out the threat. That is why i suggest telling them to see a doctor and watch how quickly some of them go quiet or find an excuse as to why they don't go. Some of them have even stopped taking their medication for the depression. It's because they feel good now, but forget that they have to keep taking it. Instead they stop taking it and depression sets back in. Those that are children often hide it from their parents, so they don't get the help they need. They confide in friends, or strangers because there isn't much these kind of people can do for them. Friends won't tell on them, and strangers can't really do much to them either.

Anyway You shouldn't be making decisions on what a mentally ill person should do irl if you don't know the whole details. Even a professional psychiatrist won't make an assumption on a patient that is not his own. It's good to let a professional handle something like that. If you see someone saying they are going to kill themselves screen shot it send it as a ticket explaining what happened. I do believe GM's on most mmo's have procedures for this kind of thing. I know a certain game that would even call the police to make sure that person was okay.
