Heya,
I'm a lvl 72 veno and since I got my nix I started dueling a little more, I usually do pretty good until it comes to bms.
I noticed they like to stun me and kill me before I can even do anything.
I was wondering how you veno's fight against this and if there's some kind of genie skill, thanks. ^_^

Fortify.
Makes you immune to stuns for 5 seconds, but reduces your magical defence.
If you use Fortify to defend against their stuns, and they have a genie with Thunderbolt, you're pretty much dead.
Of course, if you have a genie with Thunderbolt you can always use the same trick back on them.
Also, putting up Bramble Hood just before they reach you is an effective counter. They will likely either kill themselves, or be forced to not attack for 30 seconds.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Awesome thank you so much, definitely going to try that out.
I usually do bramble guard, works awesome but they sometimes holypath away until its over and then come back to stun me. :P
Thanks again ^_^0 -

There is also a genie skill called Badge of Courage that I like better.
It breaks the stun, rather than makes you immune with lowers magic defense. The downside is if they pop you with another stun you're in the same poison but most BM's will be like wtf? you messed up my stunlock! What now?? oh noes!
And if you have a nix, the one stun that you broke should be enough to beat them down unless they out level significantly.b:bye PW0 -
I decomposed my genie so I gotta lvl mine up again, I don't think these skills are available for a lvl 50 genie yet huh?
Thanks for the advice.0 -

Thanks for the advice.
Badge of Courage starts at level 30 and is maxed at 75.b:bye PW0 -
also what helps, is not letting them start the duel RIGHT next to you, so you have a second to let off lucky then pounce as theyre casting roar. theyll be stunned, and doomed to your stuns of your own.0

Thanks! I just checked it out on ecatomb and I see it, going to consider what I'll un-learn first. :P
and when I got my nix I did something really stupid I unlearned pounce and got fleshrealm but I forgot you could have 4 pet skills, got confused with my herc because I did have to replace pounce with him. But I'll really look into this, I got exactly what I was looking for.
+1 to you both. :P
Thanks!0 -
You dont have to rely on genies/pets either. I'll let you in on a secret.... "Stunning blow"
Regardless of what kind of build you are, I think it's worthwile investing for PvP.
A maxed stunning blow will freeze the enemy on the spot for 10 seconds. This is only good for 3 classes however, but it's a great defensive move for those with low Pdef.
Although they become stuck on the spot, they can still attack so this is best for melees; blademasters and barbarians. It's also good for keeping archers up close, stopping them from running away, so they do 50% less damage.
It still is a small chance to fail so pots/genies and such should always be kept as a back up. The idea is that you'd go fox form, purge+amp (should've fleshreamed and pounced)
stunning blow-> run -> ironwood -> nuke.
If you're not really wanting to spend coins to level it though it dosen't matter, just a suggestion :P
Generally speaking though, BMs should be real easy to kill.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Since it's a duel, they really shouldn't Holy Path away once you put up bramble hood. They don't have to hit you during hood duration, but they shouldn't just run to avoid getting hit. If they do, Holy path in circles and have your pet attack him. If they attack pet, stop to shoot a spell, then keep running and kiting. Once your opponent throw those certain unspoken dueling rules out the window, you're no longer obligated to follow them either.
As for Thunderstorm, I never had much trouble with it as a robed veno. It still hurts, but not nearly as fatal as to HA classes.0 -
I just hit them with Befuddling Mist and watch them hit air for the rest of the fight...but then again I am a Fox Veno. (Especially fun vs. Axe & Hammers who already struggle to hit the broad side of a barn from the inside)0

Hey awesome, thanks I read your heavy armored fox guide.
I'm going heavy armored fox when I get to lvl 85+-, then I think I will use that strategy.
And like hasu said, I sometimes use befudding mist. It really works great against barbs :P
I bought a new genie yesterday and I took, Thunderstorm - Holypath - Tree of protection - Badge of courage. Haven't tested the badge of courage yet but I will later today. ^^;0
