Yeah, well, out of the blue, my in game display has been showing stretched polygons and black and white artifacts similar to watching a very old movie.

After a while, my computer hangs and has a high pitched constant beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep, forcing me to restart.

It's never done this before, but it started before the 161 update and continues now.

I'm running full graphical settings on a Pentium 4 3.16GHZ, 2GB Dual Channel RAM, and an ATi Radeon 9800 PRO.

I have overclocked my GPU once, but reverted it after this happened. It still happens, but not in Team Fortress 2, Unreal Tournament 3, Unreal Tournament '99 or anything else.

    This is the best answer I could find, which makes a lot of sense to me:

    Best thing I can think of is to open your case, double-check all your power (and data) cables, turn your computer on, and try to duplicate the problem, watching to make sure everything is running with the fans going and no heatsinks burning hot.

    That would be a system beep they're referring to, not a beep coming from the speakers.

    And I never overclocked my CPU, just GPU.

    You did not state that the beep was coming from the speakers but now that I know this:

    When the PC hangs does it blue screen? If even it doesn't, can you check to see if it created a minidump file and if so post it in a reply.

    I will show you how to upload the file so we can figure this out:

    In your web browser, go to http://www.filedropper.com/
    Click the upload button to bring-up a new window
    Double-click My Computer -> C:-> WINDOWS -> Minidump
    Double-click the file most toward the bottom, this will upload the file
    You will see a new page that says Share This Link
    Copy text in the box below Share This Link
    Paste text your reply to this thread

    The minidump files are named according to the dates when the dump occured. Check the file name and see if a minidump was created since this problem started.
