I loled at "savvy western customer base" in a game created in China, the land of gold farming, with 50mil registered players in asia alone.

Exactly, the game was created for, and has been successful in, a different cultural climate than the one pwI (emphasis on the "I") is currently presenting it to.

QFT. Prices go up because a greedy person takes advantage of a kind person's reasonable price and re-sells for higher. It's good to have people willing to buy cash shop stuff so that we can get that in-game. What's bad is greedy re-selling.
I'm a "greedy" re-seller. I buy low and sell high. It's fun to play the market, and since this is just a game and we're all just trading around non-existent virtual toys in the first place, I don't feel the slightest bit guilty.

So yes, if you "kind people" sell too low, I'm going to buy what you're selling. Then I'm going to offer it for sale for a higher price, and if you "kind people" then decide that you just have to have it right now and are willing to pay that much anyway, then I win.

Want to stop me? It's easy: don't buy from me. I'm only able to work my system of greed because you "kind players" are willing to pay my higher prices rather than be patient and figure out where the bargains are.

Here's an example: On Wednesday the fashions went on sale, so I ran out and bought all the Red Pigments I could find for 400k or less. I re-listed them for 575k in the auction, and sold all 5 of them for a profit of ~730k. Roughly 12 hours later the rush of "OMG! I gotta dye my new fashion RIGHT NOW!" had worn off and Red Pigments are back down to 400k.

I took a gamble that "kind people" would be so impatient that they wouldn't be willing to wait 24 hours to dye their new fashions. My gamble paid off. But if they had just laughed at my higher price, I'd have been stuck with them and would have lowered my prices right back down again. Which is exactly what happened with the 2 Black Pigments I bought, which I'm now trying to unload for about a 100k loss.

I enjoy having a goal and working towards it. It makes me appreciate having it that much more.

I just get disheartened when i work my tooshie off to get something, then it goes on sale for cheap. I wonder why i worked so hard to get it, when i could just wait and eventually they will have some sale and the rare item i want will be there in the cash shop, easy peasy.

The item that really got me feeling that way was the bikini. I saved and grinded and sold my little fool head off. Had it for less than three weeks, woke up to see that i had lost over 3 mill and was pretty bummed.

I love when they come out with new content, I understand it costs money.
Lets make some things rare and leave them that way though.

    Happily greedy.

Enjoy your greed, then. At least you're willing to admit it. I am willing to admit that I can do nothing to teach someone the value of kindness if they don't want to learn.

Yes, PWE is bilking customers out of their cash.
They should never have any sales, or come out with new items, or mounts. In fact they should just close the cash shop and delete everything in the cash shops. It would be a perfect world if there was no gold.
Yes, I really dont like this. The past couple weeks have had some rubbish updates or cashshop items, so I assume this is just a quick money making thing. With stuff that was meant to be apparently ultra rare. Not just that but they add another sale for battle packs, as if there isn’t enough overpowered bugged phoenix’s ingame.

Personally I would like to think the GMs and company do it for the players, but this is another example of money over player priory.

PWE is a business, a BUSINESS, like a mcdonalds or walmart. all these sales? they keep the game free. it pays investors, employees, bills, among many other things. would you want a pay 2 play pwi? i dont think so. allof you dumbies shouting BOYCOTT GOLD, NO MORE SALES, PWI IS GREEDY, might as well shout DOWN WITH PWI, KILL IT, WE DONT WANT IT ANYMORE.

To summarize, an MMO has 3 choices on how to do things.

1: Free to play, with a cash shop to buy optional stuff. You NEVER have to pay if you don't want to.

2: Pay to play, you pay a flat fee per month regardless of how much you play for that month. You cannot play the game AT ALL without paying.

3: The game has no money and therefore, cannot be run at all. There is no game to even play.

    Take your pick.

...dolls, dragon orbs, charms, exp scroll sale is one thing - they are consumable, so a sale can only mean everyone who takes advantage of it buy more of it and will continue to buy more in the future. feather/force is different, you get a legendary pet, and it sticks with you, you're likely not going to buy more. a sale on it doesn't make sense to me. to those that wanted the legendary pets, they would've coughed up the coin/gold for it eventually; to those that didn't (hercs ugly blahblahblah), i dont think a sale would've made a difference. i mean, all in all, it just makes people who wanted one get one earlier than they expected. if pwi wanted to be greedy, they wouldn't have made a battle pet pack sale.

it's like a giveaway, i thought venos who have it already would be pissed lol

Just because PWI is a business doesn't mean we can't raise concerns about how it's run. We are its customers, after all... some of us directly, some of us indirectly by supporting gold buyers. And a business which does not listen to its customers does so at its own risk.

This thread brings up a question I've wondered for awhile now, though... "how's business, PWI?" Every week it's a new cash shop gimmick. I might post a thread on this sometime soon, but until then... well, I'm glad I'm not the only one who's raising an eyebrow at this.

We need a break from this cash shop gimmickry. I'd suggest at least two weeks, personally. When I joined back in November, new stuff for the shop was appearing, but only every other week at most. We had promotions and contests, but not all the time. And that patch data? Well, it was added bit by bit, week by week, and every little addition was a nice surprise. It wasn't all one ginormous bug-ridden patch file, the additions in which we can't even use yet, so that PWI could make a special announcement out of it.

You had it right the first time, PWI. Stop trying to change it. -_-

As you can see, in the past month, Perfect World International has had its highest stock ever. They are on a roll, and they are raking in hardcore cash. Recent publicity and rave reviews has also put them at the top of the market for F2P MMO's. Funny, how this companie's own market is resembled in-game as well. b:chuckle

This is their peak, and they are finally giving in to player's demands of new content. All this complaining for the past year almost about wanting new ****, and now you all are complaining that its too much?

Its not like its going anywhere. Every rich gamer on every server is snapping up these 'limited' items so fast, that its not even limited anymore. Take for instance HellHound, Iridescence Wings.....they are everywhere, I doubt they will be raised in price anytime soon.

This is a sentiment that I can certainly sympathize with. I guess it makes me "greedy" though, that I kinda want rare items to stay rare or else they're just not that special.

For example, I feel kinda bad for the people who had Ancient Boas. On Wednesday they had something really special. Not anymore.

I'm all for kindness, but I'm not much for moralistic touchy-feely rubbish that has no foundation in real-life. "Kindness" in a video-game isn't worth much in the real world, it's mostly just ego-stroking.

I bought my sister a mount and a Tome last week, gave some random noob free quest items he needed, and stayed to help some random party tank a boss they were having trouble with, but I'm not so full of myself that I'm going to try to give myself any sort of moral credit for doing so.

they werent that special to begin with, the first time they were around, sanc had barely opened. the new servers had no chance of EVER seeing one except through that video contest.

bikinis on the other hand, i found stupid for them to be 'rare.' why should we pay 1-2m for something only the high level group PKers got most of the time, and just make them richer? if you look at it now, youre no longer supporting their monopoly, and now getting free CS items :P.

It's funny how when something comes out thats a limited time and therefore "rare" EVERYONE buys not one, but a few, in the hopes they can sell it for loads more later.

The only thing they succeed in doing is making the item not rare, and selling for less.

Their own greed backfires and I find that funny.

This is more than just a game because it includes real gamers who you interact with (unlike single player games). Therefore, PW includes elements of real life (real people). Therefore, kindness in the game towards them is very important. They are not part of your imagination, are they? I suppose we're all just computer generated AIs running around to make your experience more enjoyable.

Nah, I just did those things because I felt like it. I like my sister, so I gave her a gift. I felt like helping that low-level noob because why not? It's not like 25k worth of stuff is much to me, since I can waste that much spamming WC with silly nonsense for my own amusement. And helping some random group of players to kill a boss is just me going, "Rah! Lookit' me! I has a barb! Defensive barb has tons of defense! Rah!"

When you play Chess, do you co-operate and give each others hugs and high-fives whenever anybody moves a piece? And do you never capture each other's pieces because your opponent is a real person with real feelings?

So you view the entire economy of PW as your enemy? Every seller and buyer is an opponant against you. What a cold view of others. You don't think about the poor guy who's down on his luck and just needs to find a special item for a decent price. No, you just see him a an opponant in a game and take advantage of him. Exactly, the game was created for, and has been successful in, a different cultural climate than the one pwI (emphasis on the "I") is currently presenting it to.

If anything it would be harder to make a profit in a market where a much smaller percentage is willing to spend IRL cash, like China.

I know that there's a shifting view in society that is attempting to erase any distinction between "opponent" and "enemy", or "competitor" and "oppressor". It's why children are now often taught to not keep score in sports, or play any playground games that might divide players into "winners" or "losers".

I guess I'm just old fashioned.
