I have a fairly powerful, well managed pc with all drivers meticulously updated weekly. I should not be having these issues regardless of high or low settings. I have gone through all possible measures suggested by many, many professionals in benefiting from my dual core processor and high speed connection. Either I, and several very intelligent people are missing something or this companies servers are lacking. Please keep in mind that I am able to functionally operate any of today's current games rather they be online or offline and have no trouble at all. It seems to be an issue with the connection of this particular company. If anyone can enlighten me as to what I should do to correct this frustrating connection issue I'd be very thankful.

Let's start with a tracert to your server. Server DNS names are :
    Sanctuary (PVE) - pwigc2.perfectworld.com
    Lost City (PVP) - pwigc3.perfectworld.com
    Heaven's Tear (PVE) - pwigc4.perfectworld.com

In Windows XP, go to Start->Run..., enter "cmd" in the white box and press enter, then type "tracert pwigc3.perfectworld.com" (without the quotes). To copy the result, right click in the black space of the command prompt, click Select All, and then press Enter on your keyboard. Come back here, open a Reply, and press CTRL and V simultaneously.

In Windows Vista, it's mostly the same, but instead type cmd into the Start Search box to start.

You will not reach the server itself. For security and reliability purposes, PWE blocks all ICMP-8 packets at the border routers. It should give us a good place to start.

Also, if you're running a discrete router and modem, make sure that the modem is set to bridge mode rather than router mode, if applicable. Running multiple layers of NAT can be... ugly.

I apologize for the lengthy wait but I wanted to make sure that all drivers were up to date. Section 19-30 occurred with the same results from four runs with no other programs active.

I'm having this problem too, and its really irritating. After I updated the client, it went up back up to normal speed, but only for about 10 minutes.

Now its back to a 5 minute delay, every time I click on a monster or npc or a skill..

    Grr..

Do you have a discrete router and modem for your connection?

I run on the basic installation provided by my ISP. I tend to stick with vanilla computer operation configurations for maximum flexibility. If you can find nothing else wrong with the information provided then it must be an issue with my ISP. I will contact them today and try to pry a bit of actual truth from them about service issues.

    Thank you for your time.

Well, it doesn't look like they're throttling or slowing down your data in general. Using nmap would prove that for the specific TCP port 29000 range, but that'd be a heck of an unusual installation to not throttle data in general. If you've got a discrete router and modem, though, they often each will be configured with NAT/PAT, and while layered port address translation works in theory, in practice it can be unreliable and have those types of issues you're describing.

I explained this fact in my last post. The issues still occur constantly. Just yesterday I experienced 4 disconnections and multiple instances of lag even after lowering all graphic and sound quality to minimum. I played Age of Conan with medium settings and experienced no crashes or lag the entire two hours I played. I also loaded up a free trial of Final Fantasy XI and it ran very smoothly with all settings on high including the download to changed the settings even further. It appears to be an issue only with this game.

I need something solid. What port settings should I open for instance? Should it matter that the in game settings are high or low with my particular PC? Is there a download available to optimize the game? Will this widespread lag and d/c issue be patched? (I read a lot of posts pertaining to others issues.) I suppose until I see an improvement my wife and I will spend our money elsewhere.

I can tell you with 100% confidence that it is not my PC nor my ISP. Both have been confirmed through many tests to be accurate on upload/download speeds and all drivers up to date. I made a service call with my ISP to check all connection settings and setup. I do not run any type of virus protection, spyware blocker or other forms of PC protection aside from Vista. UAC has been altered to protect only major system files. Which means that it does not effect any programs I run. My firewall has been altered to bypass this game in an attempt to prevent issues.

Only other solution I can think of is to open more ports but I need to know which ones.

Also, I'd like to point out that recently I've been noticing that my screen flickers to pure white constantly in the northern snowy region of the game. It's very brief but constant.

I don't want to sound whiney, but since the last Server Mainteneance a few hours ago, the game has been full of lag.

Since I installed this game, everything went smoothly and this morning, my char started to delay his actions about 1 min after pressing a key. Yeah, at first thought, it's not a great issue... but after been killed twice in an hour while defeating some mobs that were easy a few hours ago, I'm starting to get angry.

In all the other MMORPG's I've seen, when there's lag, everything starts to turn slow-motion, but aside from that gameplay is the same. In PW, the mob starts to act like crazy. Suddenly, it turns away and runs, then comes back at light speed and hits me.

So... Is that the normal behavior of this game? Yesterday, everything was fine. Today, with the same level, same equipment, same mobs and in a deserted area, I've been killed twice in a row! So, my first guess it's that the patch had something to do with this slowdown. Anyone with a similar issue?

It actually sounds like it could be a networking issue.

i am experiencing great lag on my dualcore xp powered machine
i use an adsl connection through a modem and another wireles modem that splits bandwith between my home computers
    but
this configuration worked perfectly for some time, but for about three days now (nothing changed in this time) i just can't play because of the huge lag, the login takes forever, i can select no one, a great delay using skills, all the time it flashes me back from where i started to move(i move from one spot to another but in a few seconds i find myself back from where i started)(i noticed that everything is getting worse after the first two minutes of gameplay)
    any advice?
    thanks in advance

i have been playing this game for 6 months, and the last three weeks has been a nightmare of disconnecting. i will be on for 5 minutes and be disconnected. and the lag i experience just before i disconnect. i can't level for i die when i'm disconnected. i have had my isp to come and check out my connections. there is nothing wrong there. i run a scan on my computer just prior to getting on the game. and the "cmd" does not bring up a message and log so i can send screenshots of what is going on. i run diagnostics and it says there is nothing wrong with my networking.

Same problem, massive lag even with all graphics down, d/c and basic inability to enjoy the game and level because I keep dying due to the lag or d/c. None of my other games lag and they have graphics at normal levels.

Your traceroutes will always stop at the pnap address, as that is our firewall for the game servers and only legit game traffic can get through.

Check with your ISP and see what is going on.

Our game servers have been up, and only go down for server maintenance. ISPs in certain regions may be having some issues.

Use these resources to maybe help you see if some things have been reported in your area.
