k i just made my first char a couple days ago, and i believe im going with pure mag, i understand the build for stats, but what about skills, i looked at the guides. i dont understand what this means

Quote from the 2nd stickied guide:

5) Recommended Spells in terms of Priority

Primary Spells: You'll need these spells to function in the game. Absolutely needed.
Pyrogram
Gush
Stone Rain
Distance Shrink
Essential Sutra

Secondary Spells: Level these whenever you can, but never at the cost of a Primary Spell.
Morning Dew
Dragon's Breath
Sandstorm
Blade Tempest
Black Ice Dragon Strike

Recommendations: Spells to be considered when there's nothing else to level up but have SP available.
Glacial Embrace
Stone Barrier
Frost Blade
Manifest Virtue
Mountain's Seize

Optional: You can grab these out of personal taste, but not at the cost of something important.
Wellspring Quaff
Glacial Snare
Will of the Phoenix
Force of Will
Soporific Whisper

End Game: Raise only when everything else needed is raised.
Fire Mastery
Water Mastery
Earth Mastery
Undine Strike
Hailstorm

what does primary and the other categories mean? does that mean i max primaries asap? then does those others in sequence

Wizard here on her Barb alt.

During the game, new skills become available at certain levels, and you can upgrade skills you already have at certain levels. But you won't always have the Spirit Points (SP) and coin to do so. So there are priority lists like these. They aren't set in stone, though.

Primary Spells: You will use these the most, and they make the most difference. Add more levels to them whenever you can.

Secondary: These are good but not as important as the Primary ones. Level them up whenever you can, but don't choose one to level if there's a Primary you can level up instead.

Recommendations: You'll have limited SP to level spells. So get these if you've leveled everything else, and have extra SP. Don't spend much on them before that though.

(Stone Barrier, In my opinion, should be kept leveled. Always. It's your best defensive spell, and should be in Primary.)

Optional: Not the greatest spells. Get them if you want but you can leave them too.

(Note that Will of Phoenix & Force of Will are mainstay skills for most wizards though, don't know why they're "Optional" here.)

End Game: At "end game" (post 80) you'll have enough SP to level these too. Do them then.

so like, ive heard that pyrogram doesnt need to be maxed, so what should i keep it at, or should i max it?

and are those primary skills in order of maxing? like is pyrogram better than gush, so i max pyrogram b4 i max the others. or increase them all over time as i see them but choose pyrogram over the other if i have both options (and if i have the spirits and coins available)

They look like they're listed in the order they become available, not in a priority order.

What you level is, in the end, up to you. See what you like to use best after you get 1 level of Stone Rain, Gush, and Pyrogram.

Many wizards lead with Gush because it has a chance to Slow the monster. I lead with Divine Pyrogram because it hits hard but takes ages to cast. Then I follow with Gush or Stone Rain - depends on the mob. If I want it slowed down, Gush. If I can kill it in three hits, I use Stone Rain then Pyrogram and take it out before it gets to me. regular Pyrogram is a nice, hard-hitting spell that goes off quickly. Early on you'll use both Gush and Pyrogram about equally. You should be able to keep both leveled at the same time.

will i ever be able to max all of the primaries at the same time? or do i have to max them one at a time?

i guess ill max gush first if its the 2nd option... but if its the 1st option will i be able to max 2 or 3 at a time?

Im lvl 26 and have found that for the most part I have been able to max core skills (they come up at different levels so its usually do-able) while also using spirit to max genie to lv 24. Pyro, gush, stone rain, stone barrier to me would be core skills.
