1. Depends on the armour type. HP is often the most popular choice, but some people advocate P.Def shards on arcane armour.
2. Depends on your build. We don't know if you're Arcane/Light/Heavy and if you're Caster/Hybrid/Fox. If you don't use fox, I'd recommend two sapphires; If you do use fox consider either two sapphires or one sapphire and one garnet (P.Atk).
3. Yes, two different flawless shards will create two different coloured swirls.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Im pure Arcane Veno and Caster. I dont use my fox..
Shouldnt I shard all my armor Mag Def for AOEs since pets would already take the Melee and tanking so I should only b worrying bout Mag mobs?
Wep will be Glaives of Divinity with Sapp Flawless n Turquiose or Amber Flawless mayb?[SIGPIC]http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll268/Vi3tSoul93/MKSiggieBlue.png[/SIGPIC]

I'm a noob to rpg, but I think your magic def is already sufficiently covered by your high magic, and arcane gear. I use garnet shards not only for more balanced pdef, but because HP shards would make the cost of filling my HP more. When you're soloing a boss and don't have time for Nature's Grace, it's much cheaper to just use Soul Transfusion and refill your HP with much smaller cheaper pots instead of your MP with large expensive ones because your HP is so much less, and when transferred to MP it's done in percent (ie: gain). Many AOE's are phys, and many ranged attacks are phys.
I wouldn't recommend Glaives of Divinity for a Veno. A veno should have no problem getting the TT weapons and those Glaives is more suitable to a Wiz or Cleric that needs the extra MP. With pure mag, and latest TT weapon: refines and imbues could turn out to be overkill. You may run into aggro stealing from your pet issues or just find that that little amount doesn't really change how many hits you must make to kill. The extra attack could help for healing when your pet is tanking bosses though.Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0 -

For weapons, unless you planning on smacking mobs with them (patk), use only saphires.
For armor, either HP or PDef ones, or one of each.
You already have very high mdef being a robe user, the little ammount of ectra mdef you would get by sharding your armor with mdef would be negligible (1% or less). However if you PDef shards, your pdef would go up at least 10-20%. Regarding HP ones, unless you have 3 vita, you would be better off refining the armor than adding HP shards, imo.Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. Remember, when someone annoys you, it takes 42 muscles in your face to frown, BUT, it only takes 4 muscles to extend your arm and slap that mother#$@%#^! upside the head.0 -
In general I've found the pdef shards to be much more useful on my armor and just make sure the actual armor have added vit or +HP on them to compensate. However on my arcane veno the extra HP from sharding was nice since I had low HP and as IceJazmin said the lower your base vit is the greater impact the HP shards will have. Same was true with adding pdef shards on certain armors even for arcane. Then again I never got around to refining my armor due to selling off my mirages during the craze for them when the genies came out lol.0

Lately I have been wondering the same thing... as I have been adding MP+ shards to everything... why would this be wrong?
So let's see if I get this...
Arcane Veno (little to no Fox):
Armor = PDef shards in Combo with HP Shards and Refining, unless armor has HP+ and/or Vit+ then PDef Shards only.
Weapon = Shaphire shards
Am I correct in this or did I miss something?

I wouldn't worry about hp sharding at all. You can carry around a few +vit/hp protection ornaments to switch up for those rare occasions when you might need it in later levels. (Soul Banisher )Be kind: Help the GMs to depopulate the servers.0

(I never noticed cost of potions as I tend to pickup more than I ever use.)
I never did understand how to correctly utilize Soul Transference, so I never tried.
I know, noob thinking, feel free to edumicate me...Teartroll - Sanctuary wrote: »use citrine shards in armor, saphires in weapons. with pdef mods + ornaments you will not need garnets. with your high mag you will not need saphires in armor. by 90 your armor and ornaments will give you ~2k pdef, which is roughly the same as a 7x light armor veno
Not really worried about lvl 90 yet, just trying to plan for TT stuff in the near future...
So...
Garnets in Armor = PDef
Sapphires in Weapons = MAtk
Citrines HP+ (both)
Tourquise MP+ (both) So, should I even be using these?
I thought it would be better to keep my MP as high as possible, or is this yet another of my misunderstandings?
Do MPs Directly affect Damge done by Magic Attacks or amount of Pet Heals or is that only driven by the Skill Level?
So the next question would be PDef+ or HP+ in armor, is there a major difference in how either applies?
Am I going to see more bang for the buck with one over the other?

Zetarana if I'm not mistaken all shards work in a similar manner aside from those that add directly to your MP. Honesty I wouldn't worry about adding more MP since you have to quite a bit already if you intend to use the most up-to-date magic weapons.
Citrines have a greater increase in HP the lower your allocated points into vit giving you a higher percentage increased total HP as you stack them up on your armor. Any bonus stats in vit given from armor or ornaments is added on to the base value after the fact. Where as the shards work directly with your base value.
Garnets also work in a similar manner, the lower your initial pdef the greater they will increase your total defense rating which is stat based not from the armors directly. Putting level points in vit and str is what initially increases your base defense in which case your armors defense rating and protection ornaments are then added on to the base value. Adding garnets to arcane or light armors will have the highest percentage gains in your over all pdef total.0 -
Teartroll - Sanctuary wrote: »that is totally wrong.
they add the flat amount they say they do, as do refines. i have 5081 HP, i look at my hat which refined gives +51 hp, and has 3x beautiful citrine resulting in a total of 147 HP loss. i take it off, i have 4934, exactly 147 HP gone. dont put nonsense here that is misleading.
@ OP when i say mods + ornaments, it means Protection Belts and Necklaces/Gear that has blue words that say Pdef + xx on it.
What the person meant was a greater percentage gain I believe. If you have 1000 hp and add 100 hp in shards, you've gained 10%. However if you have 2000 hp and add 100 hp in shards, you've only gained 5%. The result is that there's a diminishing return on hp shards the more you get. To take a more realistic example, lets say you have a 3 socket item and you have 1500 hp. Say you're going to put 25 hp shards in it. That first shard gives you 1525 hp which is a gain of 1.67%, the second shard puts you at 1550 hp for an additional gain of 1.64%, and the third shard puts you at 1575 hp for an additional gain of 1.61%.0 -
Thanx for all of the input!
I think I'll mix it up with MP+ and PDef+ in Headgear.
HP+ and PDef+ in Armor and MAtk+ in Weapons.
So, Should I Mirage Refine the TT60 Magic Sword?

The only time base hp would come into play is when comparing to e.g. ornaments which give +5% hp, or if you got hit by an attack which took off (say) 10% of your max hp. It *appears* to come into play when you look at your hp bar because it's the same size no matter how many hp you have. But that's just an illusion. Relative to the size of your hp bar, the damage from attacks is reduced just as much as the bonus from shard hp, so there is no diminishing returns.0
