Question regarding 2 PVP servers.

Hi, I am new to the game and had a question about the 2 PVP servers, Harshlands and Lost City. Would it be more advantageous for a new player to begin on one instead of the other? Also, is there anything else that I should be concerned about (guild monopolization in one, etc)?

There's pros and cons for each. Lost City has much more high lvled people cos its been running longer, so it will be harder for u to catch up. Harshlands has lower lvl's overall cos the server hasnt been up for long, though some peeps say HL is 'dead' (idont agree). Oh and theres much more guilds involved in Territory Wars in HL.

dont go to harshlands unless you wanna be killed by a nix everytime you leave sz, thats all you need to know b:pleased
I don't care how old or young you are, how small your **** is, how much of a nerd irl you are or how depressed you are that you never will get laid. There is no reason to act like an A-hole to everyone on an mmorpg. Its a shame that I have to take time out of my day to tell people "stop being an A-hole". So I end with this, if your acting like an A-hole, and some one tells you your being an A-hole chances are your being an A-hole.

Your best bet would probably be to make a char the same class and level them equally on each server. See which one you like more than play that.

That's pretty close to what happened my first time getting pk'd at 30. Never happened again, though. Lvl 6X veno who tends to camp area outside West Arch. I'm about caught up to her now since she apparently pk's more than working on lvling.

If you plan on making a high level character and plan to get really involved with the server, there might be more room for you in Harshlands since its future is still kind of up in the air.

Sounds to me like Lost City is in need of a revolt. Haven't played there though, so I've no business saying more than that.

I understand that the Territory War map on Lost City is virtually controlled by one guild, and has been that way for a while. Harshlands currently has two main guilds, plus about 6-10 other guilds with land, and one of the main guilds took some losses over the weekend. The third "main" guild's lands have gotten scattered a bit. There was a fourth a few weeks ago but that one crumbled after some escapades with a membership list...

Now, some of the high levels here on harshlands say our server is dead. But that's only in the highest levels. There are lots of midlevels running around, creating PK havoc, and plotting map domination. There's a good influx of low level players as well. There are plenty of people to take as allies or enemies, but not so many people that you can't move without inhaling someone's elbow.

The economy's a little more expensive than other servers because we are so new, but it really isn't as bad as the whiners say. Cash Shop items being resold in catshops actually go for the gold value on other servers, and that's what we're all after anyway with our coins, so I say it's all good.

As for the PvP, it might not be as strong as on Lost City, but a lot more people are getting into it lately. You can't take three steps anywhere without running into half a dozen rose colored names, and even more names with crossed swords. You can have your choice of No PK, PK, KOS only PK, and even Random PK guilds. Just be aware there's a vengeful streak on this server if you're a 6x+ PKing 3x's, especially around Safe Passage. There's a niche market for PK-K'ers growing because of it XD

Anyway, my vote's with Harshlands. Younger server, younger-leveld population, (mixed real age player base) diverse territory map. It's a place where you have the time and means to make a name for yourself. Climbing up from the bottom on Lost City, and enacting some kind of change in the map there, would be infinitely harder to accomplish. Probably not impossible but if you want to go somewhere, be someone, Harshlands is the vacation spot for you.

We even have carebears. They have fluffy stuffing :) But they PK now too.

    I like your optimism, Garmr.

Makes me want to be more PvP-active, but I'm more interested in networking rather than bridge burning at the moment.

XD I like the way you phrased that. I'm not an active PKer yet myself on any of my accounts, but I'm well aware that it will become a part of my life here, at least eventually. I'm a tactical (if chaotic) sort, so I don't see myself being RPK... but I do like to look at all the options.

I'm itching to really go into it, too. I've had a couple fights so far and it was so much fun every time. At first, I thought "I'm gonna go on a rampage at 60," but now I'm thinking 70 would be better after all. If I continue to go on to 80 with the same frame of mind, I'll be very disapointed with myself.

I predict Harshlands is only going to get better and better though. I see enough people around in most of the level groups (maybe at least another month for 8x+) that it wouldn't seem crazy to having a server-wide turning point where PvP becomes more wide-spread. It takes time to get enough people comfortable enough with their level and environment of players with similar cases to say, "Hey! I'm gonna throw down and fight today. **** it."

The biggest problem, in my opinion with Harshlands, is that the people who began the server and committed to high levels are just so few and far in between, that they are just tired of being patient and achieved their leveling goals too soon. I don't intend to point any fingers, but I think that's where most of the influence for neysaying comes from. People come to a PvP server to fight, and since it's such and obvious fact, the higher levels end up complaining that there's no one to fight. So they go for the low levels because they're bored.

Now that the server is leaning toward the 6-month mark, I think a balanced population is also coming. Eventually, it'll probably become another Lost City some day, but I see some good times ahead in the meantime.

Hope I didn't offend anyone. I've been here for almost two months now, and read the forums a lot. So these are just the observations I've come up with. I'm probably wrong according to other people, but I stand by my opinion.

I've been on Harshlands since a week or two after it opened. It's definitely more active than it was back then, and more interesting. Way more interesting, that's for sure :) The TW map looked like it was going to be stuck in place for a while there, but the last few weeks have changed that XD And it's still one of the most colorful out there ^x^

Yep. It's not controlled just by one or two factions like on the other servers. It's controlled by a few factons. ^^

I been in my lvl 50's for a few weeks. Reasons are that I love to RPK and do my kos's. Because of that, I run out of my charms and guardian angels. So it takes a while before I get the money to get more. Now I am basically doing only kos and lvling so I can get to 60. I have made it my goal to get to lvl 60 before any more PKing for now b:surrender

If you do plan on PKing do it while doing quests or grinding. Don't do it and not do your quests or grinding.

    I say go Harshlands.
Its still a fresh and new server, if you would grind all day you could still end up in the ranking list.

Though, you might get PKed by high lvls alot (QQme guild) but I think this happens in LC aswell.

Welcome back! Don't worry, a lot of the thread is just Harshlanders showing their love for their server ;)
