There are only two PVP servers, Lost City and Harshlands. The other three servers are PVE. The PVE servers let you switch to PK mode, but not many people do that before level 80, so you wouldn't have many options in your first few months if you want to PK.

Lost City is one of the oldest and largest servers. It has the highest levels in the game, so it would take some catching up if you started there now. Also, their Territory Map is controlled almost entirely by only one guild, and has been that way for a while. Makes it hard to be an upcoming power. On the upside, the economy is more stable, there's more people, and a larger selection of items like Mounts since last year's Limited Release items happened before Harshlands opened. On the downside, crowded, lag, stagnant TW.

Harshlands is one of the two newest servers, it opened in March. We have some 8x and 9x players but most of the population is in 5x-7x, which makes it easier to catch up to. There's also a good bulk around 3x. Two to three months if you do well, as little as a month if you're some kind a freakishly good leveler. (1-30 in a few days isn't a problem, but things slow down after that.) We have a lot of people but not too many, and are fairly active - in game and on the forums. The PK is starting to pick up, and you can start once you hit level 30. We have an odd mix of senses of humor which makes things interesting, and a wide variety of guilds to choose from. There's every flavor around here, from social groups to PK or No PK or Random PK or KOS PK or... whatever you're looking for.

Barbarian (Untamed Male Only) survives the best in PK because of big health bars, but they don't have the best attack power or accuracy unless you tweak the build.

Blademasters (Humans) are able to do well enough because they have decent health bars, AOEs, and stuns. They also have speed boosts and the most diverse weapons choices in the game.

Archers (Winged Elves) are feared for their long-range attack power (physical DD), and can fly from level 1. (But it eats up your MP until level 30 when you get better wings.) Unfortunately they hit worth **** in melee range and have short health bars. They have to kill things before the things get to them.

Venomancers (Untamed Females only) have pets to tank for them, while their HP stays safe against mobs, and sometimes players. They can stand back at a distance while the pet does great damage - until the pet dies. Then the venomancer is vulnerable - low HP bar. They also have long range magic casting and debuffs that make them troublesome to play against.

Wizards (Humans) are ranged magic casters, the Damage Dealers of the game but their HP bars and physical defense are a little lame. They're trickier to play, and easier to die, but at later levels they are something to fear.

Clerics (Winged Elves) are ranged healers and magic attackers. They can pick a Healing Support path with heals and buffs, or an Attack path with, well, attacks. They do well but have small HP bars too.

I haven't tried Archer yet, but Cleric was nice to play. I just didn't want to go the Heal Everyone All Game Long route, and going "Full Attack Cleric" didn't make much sense since that's basically a Wizard. And FAC's aren't well-liked since people invite Clerics for the heals, and FACs have low-level heals.

1.) Download the Client, here: http://pwi.perfectworld.com/download
Note that it takes a couple hours, usually.
2.) Use the file you downloaded to install the game. It takes a couple steps.
3.) When it's installed, double click the new PWI icon on your desktop.
4.) The client window will pop up; tell it Later if a mini update window shows up.
5.) Click update inside the big window. When "Start" button appears, click that.
