Undercutting and its conclusion

Grats to all the undercutters on this server. Prices are so low on this server, and frankly Id soner kill the market off and sell at cost so noone can make any money rather than struggle for a few hundred coin to find that I'm not selling because someone has undercut me by 1.

I can run 24/7 so forget about making any money anymore. Perhaps this will serve as a lesson to what happens when you get greedy.

    Let me tell you a little bit about economies:

    In a capitalist market, goods are exchanged to generate profit.
    Prices are determined by Supply/Demand dynamics.
    "Undercutting" in a capitalist system, is the result of supply competition. An increase in the availability of a product relative to its demand acts to reduce the price. Alternatively, a reduction in the availability of a product relative to its demand acts to increase the price.

    If you want to sell an item before another person, you need to ensure that you are:
    a) Pricing it lower than competitors are willing to
    b) Making the price of your product known to prospective buyers

    What you are talking about is market forces, not people running around trying to spite you.

    That has an implied assumption that your opponent isn't just going to undercut you back.
    As already stated, the net result of 2 people undercutting is that you sell at cost and make no money. Yeah it happens in the real world too, and its just as stupid.

    Why im not going to bother continually checking prices and adjusting prices. May as well just cut to the chase and sell it at cost if your competitor is going to insist on always undercutting you.

    I thought it was the "obvious" until you so blatently misinterpretted it. If you are selling something lower than other people are willing to... they won't undercut you.

    Now let me TRY to explain to you why undercutting is important.

    1. You want a coffee... you want to buy it for $1 to $5, because you think thats a reasonable price.

    2. The coffee people however, decide that they should shake hands and decide on a price rather than undercut eachother.

    3. The price they decide on is $20.

    4. You don't have a coffee machine.


    Could they compete and undercut, the price would reflect its actual difficulty to produce -- that price would reach $1 to $5 because thats about how hard it is to make it.

    Agreements = nonsensical market of alliances and powerplay
    Competition = natural market dynamic "fair" trade

    u don't like the Economy on HT? go to one of the other servers where gold is going for over 200k per. or even on the MY servers where gold goes for much higher.

    as I see it, HT is the most lvl and reasonable playing field economy wise in the PWI universe. u don't have to make a million coins in profit on every sale. get u'r greed in check, and get to work. nothing will be handed to u.

    as for u'r end game consequences....it'll only work if u get more than just u doing it. better yet, npc all u'r stuff and quit complaining. especially since u can't seem to wrap u'r head around Free Market Capitalism principles.

    I'll happily sell below cost on some items. For example, if I'm trying to craft a nice piece of gear, selling chi stones from 2* stuff helps pay for more crafting mats. I'm not interested in making a profit, just in getting a good item, so I'd rather price the chi stones lower and sell, rather than hold on to them to try to make a few thousand more coins.

    Sorry if that makes it harder for you to run a business on this server.
