Dex Fox

Ah, the source of all my woes. I'm trying to take the dex-based swords Blademaster, and run with it as a veno. I've made 61 levels so far, so it's not all worthless, but I wonder at what all the more experienced people might make of it.

Dex Fox
Stats: 1 Str, 1 Mag, 3 Dex per level

Armor: Light at level. +Mag is priority, +Dex is secondary.

Weapon: At 61, I'm still looking for a 2 socket mirage sword. 70's should see me with an Order of the Stars. Endgame weapon, hopefully with enough +Mag, is a Wheel of Fate

Sage or Demon: I wand to go demon with this one. +3% critical can be fun when you already have 20%+.

Genie: Right now she's just 39 (and has 29/30 lucky points, go me). Have Wind Shield and Tree of Life. Debating on taking Blinding Sand to stack with Befuddling Mist, or Relentless Courage (does it stack with Wind Shield?). And as a 4th skill, Inflame for a lead attack

Pros: My accuracy is through the roof, I don't miss, ever.
My dex is high enough that I evade a lot to compensate for lack of HP (and with befuddling mist, it gets even better)
High crit helps make up for lower damage, especially with a fox's attack rate.

Cons: Magic attacks hurt. As does poison.
Damage when not a crit hit is lower.
Repairs are higher, especially on my weapon.

Progress so far: Grinding is really easy. Leech + Consume Spirit, along with Soul Transfusion, means I don't use pots, and I don't meditate (and have Tree of Life for emergencies). Haven't done much pvp, did a few duels, wins soe, lose some...

...

Ok, rip into me :)

why so much dex if you're not going to use a bow? you can hit with bow, switch to melee weapon/fox form when they come close...

if no bow, might as well get str instead for harder hits with your melee weapon i would think. how much do you hit per hit?

light armor is 1 str 1 dex per lvl anyway

What weapon are you using in fox form?

You can only use magic weapons or be bare handed in fox form, equipment is locked in fox form so you cant switch to melee weapons either o_O

i mean you would be in caster form wielding bow, switch to magic sword before going fox when they come at melee range

Somehow I don't think the 25% crit rate will make up for the lack of real attack damage from using such a low weapon. You have crits of what, 4k-5k? Pure mag venos at your level are doing about that with every cast. End game, your criticals, as often as they may be, will be dealing less damage than the normal attacks of almost every other build.

Generally, builds only end up being practical if they help unlock a different set of equipment that can be used with your current skills. All that extra dex isn't really going anywhere other than crit rate with some evasion. Just from going fox form you already receive a rather high accuracy boost. You would probably do more damage by ignoring veno skills completely and just using a sword/claw in human form using auto attack.

I never claimed the build would be effective... nobody, to my knowledge, has ever done this before yet.

Currently, due to a lack of 2-socket mirage sword goodness, I'm just using the the low stash magic sword socketed with a garnet. I crit about 1000 on it. Mirag sword would drastically raise that.

And yes, I know I do less damage than a pure veno. So what about it? I hit faster, I can handle physical attacks a lot easier, I can contribute more to a party (all my fox skills are maxed, not just 1 or 2 levels), and, most importantly, it's not just the same old cookie cutter build! And when I'm using wind shield and attacking with my pet, I've never seen so much red text fly up from a mob so fast. :)

I haven't gotten around to it, but I am planning on picking up a bow for distance stuff when running into melee (aoe magic) isn't such a good idea.

Lvl 4 Venomous Scarab has 20.1m range, which just out-range a bow. Level it more it will beat the bow.

As that skill is rather cheap to level, it might be a better distance lure skills than to use a bow.

Add a Ironwood Scarab to it, you have a mob that is physically de-buffed before it gets to you.

I do those before I swtich to my Axe, and when the de-buff runs out after 10 secs, the mob is dead, or 1 hit away from it.

With a bow though, since there won't be channelling time, you could get in 3-4 hit before the mob reaches you. So it IS better in terms of damage in that sense.

Hope this will help you :)
