Bias against pure foxform?

For those of us who have chosen a more canine path in a perfect world (or maybe it's vulpine path, if we're going genus names), by necessity we need to sacrifice magic for other stats. But the trap in that is that, although we require high physical weapons, we also must use a magic implement to use the skills.
Is any other skill tree so handicapped as that?
It would be nice if they were to implement some low magic, low magic damage, but higher phys damage weapons. We've just got the release of "ultimate weapons", and not a single one is usable by anyone who follows the path of the fox.
(Yeah, I'm just venting, I know the choice I made when I went this route.)

Grats on 61
And our path crossed again
I made a fox too and totally understand what you mean.
My weapon is a Wand of Colour... level 14, Require 9 Str and 5 Mag...
From what I was told I will break it at higher level before I even realize it.
I am living every day under that fear now but then I have absolutely no alternatives.
If foxes are designed to have possibility for variations, their weapon of choice should reflect the same.
I played a game where there is a similar character than can transform from a magician to werewolf, and what they did is switched the stats during transformation. E.g. Magican with 165 Mag 5 Str, will have 165 Str and 5 Mag in Werewolf form. That way the magician can have a set of magic weapon and a set of melee weapon to use when they transform. Of course then, the first thing to do is to allow werefoxes to weild melee weapons.0 -
The reason for that are the bonuses you get in fox form.
Melee mastery - 200% more damage
Fox Form - 150% more accuracy
Now imagen that and using dual axes....... foxes would outdamage anything out there. If you can wield the magic weapon that corresponds to your level, than your pdamage is going to be very high.Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. just to add to previus post in fox from you ahve +120% psihical defenc if you go sage then 150% so you will be the best tank posible xD with highest daged and psihical defenc posible xD0

And a weapon you can't refine, because refining a magic weapon increases magic damage, not physical.0

120% physical defense isn't all that much when it's only 1000 or so.
And 200% damage still sucks when your strength is lower than everyone, or you have to sacrifice magic for better stats, and it drops anyways.0 -
100% pdef bonus means, that my veno, while wearing arcane armor, has almost 60% pdef and 61% mdef. I would not say that is "nothing"
Check the HA guide. With some planning you can wear level HA, level arcane and level magic weapon (although it will not be cheap).Too often we loose sight of life's simple pleasures. Actually, that is a common myth. Refining increases both damages. I've tested it out myself, and been gleefully happy with the results. I'm a hybrid, by the way, and I have no problem with my Fox Form. I cause more DPS with regular attacks than I do with spells, varying only by the mobs I'm fighting. Needless to say... I NUKE Earth mobs. b:chuckle0 -
As I understand it, venos once had whips which acted as physical based weapons that could be used in fox form. This was removed because it made fox venos able to do too much damage when combined with their pet and it was unfair.
It would be like a veno being able to do the same DPS as a fist BM, tank as well as an axe BM, AND have a pet to add to the damage or take the hits.
As a result, whips were removed, and veno skills were adjusted to correct for the damage loss when using magic weapons and from having to put points in magic stat instead of strength.
Yep, there aren't any ultimate weapons for Fox Venos, but really, by the time you get there and all has been said and done, you're still doing comparable damage without one. There's no ultimate weapon for heavy clerics either.0 -
Wouldnt be so hard to find a way to get your magic up and still wear HA for an ultimate weapon, I reckon the pataka would've been pretty good on a fox build o.O
And yes, like Isala said refining does increase the physical damage~otherwise I don't think I would've rolled fox veno. Requiem blade+5, here I come *__*
I did think it was a little weird, that you'd need magical weapons to inflict physical melee damage~ but then again, if we were allowed melee weapons in fox form i'd certainly say we'd be overpowered. To be honest though~ I dont find needing 'uber 1337' damage in both forms, so long as they both hurt enough on those I need it to, I'm happy.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

I have used the Sakyamuni's light because of the +pdef stat and the higher +patt compared to tt weapons, when entering fox form it had a significant effect on my pdef and when solo boss tanking it was a nice damage addition when leeching my hp back after a HP/MP switch (i dont use charms and as little pots as possible).
I also use this technique when tanking tt bosses (if not aoe), so the cleric can take part in the damage dealing (clerics my level generally do more damage then me).
Now i use the lvl79 pataka, but next weap will be a requiem blade. Also the ultimate magic sword seems to suit a heavy (fox) veno very well cause of the double +vit stats.Heavens Tear
Maliza - 8x veno
