Would Upgraded Graphics Card Help Lag?

Here is a question for the Techies. I have a Gateway Hyperthreading P4 PC with a Nvidia 7800GTX graphics card driving an Apple 30inch monitor @ 2560x1600.

Gameplay is reasonably smooth except in really busy areas. I came across a great deal on a 9800GTX graphics card, which I think is about 4 times more powerful.

If I get it will the "lag" performance improve or is there another bottleneck? I don't think it is the PC or internet connection.

Pentium P4 Hyperthreading, on Win XP, 2Gig Ram.

The reason I don't think it is the processor is because things speed up if u turn down graphics quality.

Change the processor to a dual or quad core one and change the GFX Card. You don't need more RAM since you run Win XP ;)

Well i can't afford to do anything other than change the graphics card, nor do i know how to change processors. So is it worth upgrading card?

Put it this way, i upgraded from my single core processor to a amd phenom triple core and i now get no lag whatsoever in Arc, i only have 2 gig of ram, changing your graphics card will not cure lag.

Thanks for this info. Did you also upgrade the graphics card?

Has anyone seen an improvement by just upgrading the graphics card?

I wish I could simply upgrade my processor, but that isn't an option right now.

to answer your question, you will probably experience some improvement in lag, but make sure that the card you get has at least 512Mb on it. Nowadays you can get cards with 1g but if you can't afford that one either should do in terms of being a substantial upgrade.
