Different Archer Build, Couple questions

Since level 1, I've been a pure build, staying as close to 1str 4dex except for gear pluses. Now I've moved to a slightly stronger dex build from level 60, with str=lvl and dex=everything else.

My question is, how far can I go FULL dex and yet still be successful grinding, etc? I've been tempted to from now on put everything on dex, locking my str at 61 or so. I don't need the most recent light armor.

Extension of the above question, is there anyone who can speak of doing the absolute minimum str for weapon and everything else on dex? Call me crazy but I like to DD b:laugh

Final question. What does each point on str and dex do? I haven't seen a good source for showing what +/- 1 str/dex will do to my archer.

    I know the DD is a tempting idea, but not necessarily a good one.
    Here is my reason : Archers are already squishy and easy to kill after a few shots, so the best they can do is stay as far as possible from the target and kill it asap. BUT I think you observed that, no matter how hard you try, that is not always possible (for ex, if you use crossbow and have no -INTERVAL gear, i am sure that some range mobs get at least 1hit before you knock them back or kill them). So taking damage can't be avoided all the time, nor you can use Wing Shell at every corner.

    After this scenario i have just told you, building an archer that is even squishier because he has lower level armors, is going to hurt a lot, in my opinion. Think about it in a dungeon run : you can monitor the DD at bosses (as you can calculate the DD in those few minutes that takes to kill it), but with elite mobs you can easily steal aggro. And then what? :p You will witness a dead archer in 2 hits, maybe worse.

    Take it from me : I still use Armor of Barbarian Shaman (which normally needs to be changed at level 60 into Serrated) and I intend to keep it until level 70 because I love it's add-ons. But this has repercussions : I already can feel it's weakness sometimes, so i need to be extra careful. Using this armor until level 70 is just an exception, and i intend keeping my armors leveled after this.

    I think that this is the same thing that will happen in PvP too.
    I am not saying to always go for the expensive TT armors at every 10 levels (starting level 70), but you definitely going to need some new ones, as what you wearing at the moment is not going to be enough.

    Take your pick, that is what i had to say !

    I agree with Lunnark 110% As a ranger your already easy to kill and since your full dex build right now, you dont have any health either. So not upgrading your armor puts you at a huge dissadvantage + No health = 2-3 Hit. Especially in FB's where your more likely to pull aggro from the tank to yourself, and unless you want to run the entire time until the tank and DD's kill the thing behind you, then your screwed.. Umm i suggest (I assume your using LA) that you try to keep going, because later on your gonna want to get TT armors like Lunnark said, and your gonna be 10-15 strength away from getting them, i say you stick with what you been doing and get the latest armor available. Just a suggestion, and i probably repeated almost everything Lunnark said b:surrender

    I saw a level 80+ Archer wearing the Rank 4 Chestpiece. The requisite level for that is 60, and Rank 4 requires 5000 reputation.

    However, all of his other armor pieces were 70s and 80s equipment.

    The easiest way to answer this question is to get a reset note, drop your strength by 20 *right now*, and use the best armor equipment you can. After all, that is exactly what you are trying to do when you are 80, right? Wearing armor 20 levels below you?

    I'm lvl 65 and I'm pure dex, my STR is like 62. And I'm rest dex. At 279 dex as of this post. :D And I have a "little" problem with getting owned fast but I never die just go down in health alot. Pots FTW.

    thers nothing wrong with using the rank 4 chestpiece,i keep it on me (extra that is) for DD purposes mainly bosses, heck extra 3% attack speed is a bit (and its got dex)

    you can always find equipment with +strength so that you can keep up with armor while having higher dex than the regular 4dex/1str build. those are not very hard to find either

    Oh, I was not implying there is anything wrong with that piece of armor. I was merely giving a real/virtual example of someone in the 80s wearing level 60 armor. That's sort of what the original poster was asking.

    Figured I should explore the extremes of pure archer :P

    That is precisely why I've gone for a sling for most of my grinding. I still carry an xbow for pking but my main weapon is a 3* purple pearly shot with max phys atk boost and 0.77atks/sec [wish it had sockets!]. I'm sitting at the turning point with my archer...gathering mats for HH weapon. Basically trying to decide how long hh60 armor can last me...into my 7x? 8x? How quickly did you get your hh60 armor?

    Oh and I'm plenty squishy at the moment...fitting the *glass cannon* motto to a T. Just trying to decide if I should either bulk up hp wise or attack even harder. But that still leaves many opportunities for taking hits such as getting aggroed while grinding other mobs or pulling elite mobs...[which I'm famous for]. I don't single handedly pvp very much. I tend to squad with at least a support char so I dont intend on staring down a barb too often xD.

    So my plan now is to get back to classic pure by adding 5 str when I hit 62 and then continuing from there. I'll go for hh60 armor around 65 and keep it until late 70s. Any opinions?
