Question about pet skills.

Ok, I've been playing for a while now..but this just occurred to me today.

Exactly how many skills can a pet have? Take a lunar wolf for example...it comes with flesh ream and howl. Can he learn any more skills or is that it?

Yes, I do have a herc, but I balance my pets out, and try to keep them all at my lvl, means I sacrifice a bit exp to my genie to do it, but well that's not that bad.

The main reason I'm asking is because I also have two alt veno accounts, just mainly because I'm experimenting with different pets and different builds, plus it's fun. And I have no intention of getting my alts a nix or herc, so I was wondering if we tame a pet in game, can we add skills to them, without changing the skills they come with?

I know some of the pets come with four skills, others with three, then two then one...so was just curious.

    Pets can learn up to 4 skills.

    You shouldn't base pet selection on the skills they have. Some of the better pets actually require you to remove their skills to re-add others to make that pet reasonably effective. As far as pets go, it is usually better to have one which is tamed at the lowest level available, which you then raise and add skills to, than to tame a fresh one that has lower stats and often wrong skills. The downside to the legendary pets is that you don't have much choice in skills, so never really have to think about which skills will help make you pet a better fit for the role given.

    The skills on legendary pets are pretty much perfectly suited to what those pets have to do.

    The nix has one slot left, which is taken about 99% of the time by flesh ream

    The herc often has pounce removed and replaced by bash, flesh ream, or blessing of the pack.

    You can get new pet skills in Arch at Mrs. Zoologist.
    You can also get the book to lvl their skills, and forget some.

    Oh yea, I realize that. I made the mistake of getting rid of some of the pets I caught at the low lvls with Vizula, so my other two venos are keeping their starter pets, and I'm setting up a pet base that will work with their play style. And I'll add and forget pet skills as needed.

    For Vizula, I do have both legendary pets, replaced pounce with bash on the herc and added flesh ream to the nix...since at some point in time I might pk, still haven't decided.

    yes..everything's alright with changing pet skills but noone mentioned their cost since there's GOT to be one...
    I am starting a veno soon and am actually troubled with the expenses (eventhough they say it's amongst the richest of classes)b:sad

    I did some checking, and if you're just adding the pet skills, the basic skills run anywhere from 300K to 900K, depending on what skill to add. If you are forgetting a skill and adding a skill, it's an additional 200K, (correct me if I'm wrong.) for the forget scroll. On top of that, it's an additional 100K a pop for tame pet books, which will lvl the skills.

    So yea, it can get expensive, but well, it'll pay off in the end for my alts, and maybe make it easier to switch and quit being so reliant on herc and nix for my main.

    Don't get me wrong, I love them, but I'm also quite fond of the other pets I have as well. Some I tamed, and some were given to me by friends. So, that's how I see it and my goal is to have every pet at my lvl.

    Got Tame and Forget scrolls backwards. Tame (level skill) is 200k, while Forget scrolls are 100k.

    My recommendation would be to never purchase skills from Mrs. Zoologist. Her prices are simply too high to be worthwhile. Instead, watch the pet scrolls section of the auction house, and when a scroll you want shows up (and at a reasonable price), jump on it. I've purchased the vast majority of my skills this way, frequently at deep discounts compared to Mrs.Zoologist.

    Price varies wildly since it's player set, but expect to pay under half the price. I've bought Bash for 50k, Howl for 150k, etc.

    Maybe someone can help me. I have bought a new pet skill for my herc (Bash) but this skill is no the last one from the 4 in my pet skill bar and is always off. Does anyone knows how t o put him in front so it is always in front and on?

    You can't change the location, but you can activate it. Just hover mouse over the bash skill and right click it...it'll turn it on automatic. I do it in succession with activating the other skills.

    also noting, while you can't have more than one skill on auto...you can have a different skill go off right at the beginning, by sending the pet in with the hotkey for a different skill than the auto. Alt + (2-5) if the first skill is on auto, and you use Alt+3 to send it in, the 2nd and 1st skill go off on arrival...of course only the highlighted skill repeats on auto.

    I am confused my herc has strong protect and reflect can they all be active at the same time as it appears that when I activate reflect he gets the green graphics but when I try and hit one of the other two it dissapears?

    2nd question is to change a skill on his bar (pounce for bash) so presumably I have to use a forget scroll so does that mean if I want to use it in the future I need to relearn it?

    They can all be active at the same time, with Strong/Protect you can see a sparkling animation around your Herc, otherwise just select it if you want to double check if the buffs are active.

    Yes, in that case you'll have to buy or find another Pounce skill (in this case with the Temple of the Dragons event.) for it to relearn.
