New Market System: Reduce Need For Cat Shops (Player Shops)

I know it's been commented on before, but I wanted to keep the idea in the minds of the developers as they look through this suggestion forum.

Currently there is a heavy reliance on player shops (cat stores) in this game. The problems that are created by this system are:

  1. Frustration for players trying to find a particular item, and the excessive time required going from shop to shop to get exactly what you're looking for.
  2. Extra drain on server resources with all the extra connections logged into the game server. You're using up precious CPU cycles as well as bandwidth so people can keep a shop going while they are away from the keyboard (some shops are up for days).
  3. Extra energy use by those who keep their player shops up and are away from the keyboard. That's the electricity, network connection, etc that are required just so they can keep up a player shop to sell a few items (for hours and hours). This is not a very earth-friendly situation (wasted energy).
  4. A huge clutter of cat shops in the cities (sometimes causing major lag issues for people with slower computers).

More reliance on the Auction System in this game would be preferable. But also I would suggest that you consider using a market system like that found in another MMO game (Atlantica Online). Their market system is such a relief for gamers, everything is easily searched out, you can easily compare item prices, and it's all in one place (a market window).

Perfect World is an awesome mmo as it is, but a market system that removed the reliance on player shops would really put this game over the top and help place it at the top of the gamers choice for in game purchases.

Thank you for taking the time to read this submission.

Also... it would help to cut down on all the trading spam in world chat.

I personally like the catshops, it lends a sense of unique charm to the game.

I do agree that it is ridiculous to have thousands of players running multiple PCs non-stop just to keep the catshops up. Definitely not enviromentally friendly. There should be some sort of offline ability. The only problem I see with that is that the "Pro" catshoppers will then be able to set up a relatively unlimited number of catshops by creating a huge number of multiple accounts.

I think the number of people using catshops could be reduced if the Auction House was more friendly to use. Implementing a search and sort feature and lower fees for low price items, longer listing durations. Currently the poor filtering and sorting capability of the AH makes it hard to find items and encourages the "pros" to spam list overpriced items.

Personally, I would like something similar to what was in Lineage 2. There was an option where you could type /findprivatestore item (example: /findprivatestore Pig Iron -- That would light up any shop selling or buying pig irons. Selling shops would light up one shade of green, the other shops that are buying it would light up another shade) and any shop with that item would light up green so you know which shops had the items you needed in a crowded place. Something like that here would be really helpful with all the catshops in town. Would cut tons of time having to search every single shop for a specific item.
