How does my genie work?

I've just got my first genie and equipt her, it says that it has +15 vitality but I don't get any HP bonus?

Also as I level I assumed my genie would also get exp/spirit and level too, again this doesn't seem to be happening.

Am I missing something?

    Yeah, doesnt work that way, you have a few options on how to level up your genie. You can add to the genies EXP by transferring some of your own EXP, your you can use stones. I believe the stones are available at the watchers (where you got the genie) I am not all that versed on skills, but I believe there is a skill that boosts your HP, it may be class specific, I forget. You also have to fuel your genies stamina with stones, yauyin (spelling?) stones will fuel the genies stamina.

    So what exactly does the genie do if it doesnt give me stats then?

    If you look at the skill tree, in game, you will see that the genie has a lot of skills that can do many things for you, buffs, amps and attacks. Things like add wood damage to your attacks, or HP regen. Things of that sort. It is there to assist you, to complement your character.

    So is it worth me leveling it from as soon as I get it? Also as a mage what affinity/skills should I be looking at concentrating on?

    in a way yes
    but expensive? depends for who, at 90+ you basically get a easy 100k stamina from stones a day from daily, you get some perfect stones from supply stash early on (500)
    its making a.pvp a bit more complex and barbs harder to kill and b. making bosses with nasty magic attacks easier (interrupt skills from genie) and c. making survive easier (emergency life saver skills from genie)
