West Arch Cat Shops

I know that every one of you who opened this is expecting it to be a complaint, but it's not. Call it boredom while working or whatever, but curiosity has settled on me.

I know there are certain NPC's in west arch that cannot be found anywhere else in the city. Hou Jehnsi, Tu Jo, those justice quest guys, the wine npc, and a few others. But supposing those NPC's were distributed to the other areas as well, I still don't see it making a difference, and my question is right there, what makes the west district of archosaur the centralized location for almost all trading and cat shops? When I trade through world chat, it never varies, no matter where we are (unless right near each other obviously) it's always, "meet you at west arch".

I don't know if it's just because I'm a girl or it's my personality directly, but I like having a sort of "shopping district" in the game. In other games I've played, shops would be scattered everywhere, and it could take hours to find and go through them all hoping to find what you were looking for. I'm mostly just curious why west arch in particular is the point of choice for I would say at least 90% of all player trading in the game.

Thoughts? Shutup Hisu nobody cares? We already know the answer and here it is? wtf hax nub? etc?

Part of it is the Crazy Stone NPCs: West Archosaur is the only spot where everyone has to be there at least once every day, so it gets a lot of foot traffic, which is good for cat shops.

The big part, though, is that it is where people first start meeting up after doing their own racial quests from 1-20. People started putting cat shops there very early in each server, because it was the busiest place when *everyone* was low level, and then people just kept putting shops there because that was where all the buying and selling happened.

These days, it's mostly inertia. If you want to sell stuff, you go where the buyers are, which is west arch. And they're there because that's where all the sellers are. b:chuckle

I agree but again it's more of a hypothetical discussion. As I said, assuming the NPC's you mentioned were in every part of the town, I think it would still be west arch. The part about where players first meet up after finishing their race quests is true, in the sense that the west gate is the first exit you typically use, but initial arch quests come from all over archosaur, not just west.

You're right about inertia of course, that's the main reason they will never be anywhere else, which is fine, but i still feel like I must be missing some sort of X factor, or maybe I'm just way too bored and needed to discuss something that wouldn't involve 10 tons of flaming and arguing. b:surrender

just think of it as the vegas strip. its long straight. and all the noobies go there for their lv 20 quests.

the new players dont know prices well so people set up shop in hopes to sell higher..
i mean. most people lv 20 already have at least 100k saved up so its just a cash trap.

    1. The free teleport Cube of Fate gets you to arch from any major city. All other teleports have Arch as the central hub as well (i.e Thousand Streams to Dreamweaver makes you stop at arch first)

    2. All the daily quest NPCs are in West Arch (crazy stone and world quest).

    3. Arch is a major hub for other important NPCs such as the rank person, and has trainers for every class's skills.

Basically Archosaur is designed as the center of the game's world. I think the fact that *West* Arch specifically is because of the daily quest NPCs. Everyone has to wait around arch somewhere for 10 minutes for crazy stone, and most wait somewhere close to the turn-in NPC.

its just like my former MMO, the main town everyone went to was called prontera, everyone would be like after a deal is initiated, "meet u in s pron by x NPC" there would be literally thousands of vendors and people just chatting it up like it was a mall lol.

i rather like W arch it reminds me of what made MMOs fun, sociality :P think of it like a mall

Urg, I remember Prontera. I think it made me lag out even more than the West District does. 0.o

I kind of like it, despite the lag. If you go from one end to the other, looking for a specific item (I've done it for the DQ things I just didn't want to go kill mobs for) and compare prices, you can find some almost cheap ones.

If it wasn't West Arch, it would be some other place. Every game has that one lagfest where everyone goes to do everything.

If they didn't I'd hope they would have something similar to Runescape's Grand Exchange where you simply put in an order for X amount of a certain item for X price and then go off and do whatever while you wait for your order to be filled (if not right away.) This works for selling too and is free to use.

I seriously would like to see something like this in Perfect World, as the Auction House is a fairly poor system.
