Slow performance - Inherent to the game, or fixable?

I'm running an Asus G50VT-X1

2.26 GHz Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
Nvidia 512MB 9800m GS
230GB 720RPM HDD

Almost all other games run silky smooth, but Perfect World only runs ok, except on the "low performance" mode.

Is there anything I can do to get better performance at higher graphic settings, or is the engine just inherently slow?

    Multicore CPUs

    Run antivirus/anti-malware/spyware scans

Don't have more then 40-50 processes running on your system.

Don't have bandwidth hogging (hardware and network) programs running in the background, and don't be downloading anything.
Do you need help learning about patching the game, installing it, changing antivirus/firewall settings, changing network settings, learn how to use a computer, keeping your PC maintained and more?

Could be that your server has a high population. Your computer's a little better than mine performance wise, and the graphics card definitely tops mine. But I play Harshlands and can run things at near-max quality without a hitch. I say near, because camera rotation was sluggish at full max when I was near a lot of action. I just tweaked the Terrain/Detail grouping down a smidge, left everything else on Full, and I was good to go.

I highly recommend Max water quality, even if you sacrifice all else <3

Haha, but updated driver sweetness is helpful as well ^x^
Take the moment in your hands, and dust off the parts that you wish weren't there. Hold onto and pursue the parts you enjoy, letting the drifting dust fade away on the wind, remembered and learned from, but no trouble to you now. ~ Myself, 4/4/09.

I personally play (on a pretty decent system from last year) with everything turned off except for distances, textures, terrain, sharpness and water at mid. Also play in windowed mode.

I could care less what the game looks like, I like super smooth animation and performance because I have to multi-task so much. b:victory

I checked those links and I'm not having speed-up issues and I run a tight ship in terms of Malware, viruses and processes. I also have up to date graphics drivers. perhaps it is the server, or perhaps it is the game engine.

No problem whatsoever.. who is your provider? How many hops too the servers?
I look at all the trollers, and Pvpers.. and know they wouldnt have lasted 30sec on Camelot.

Rules= Know your enemy (players and NPCs) gives you more chances to survive.
