First 10lv you are may be able to kill them by your meal attacks but later on it impossible. You will only kill with your mag attacks. So you cant use heavy armor.

    You can go:
Light armor - so so in psy/mag def. Low hp
Arcane armor - very low psy def and huge mag def. Best option for first timers

You'll want to use arcane, NOT heavy. Physical Defense only helps against mobs that come up and smack you or physical damage AOEs, not magic damage. You'll be looking for armors with higher element resistances (arcane robes) for that.

There are monsters that do physical dmg and monsters that do magical dmg, you can figure out what's the type of their attacks by the effects easily, magic is magic (lighting, ice arrows, maybe some flying rocks etc.), arrows do physical dmg, melee does physical dmg, also magic is always ranged.

Now to the topic... robes have the hightest magical defence and the lowest physical defence so magic mobs would do you much less dmg but physical mobs would hit hard. Heavy armor is the opposite, it has the best physical defence and the lowest magical. Light Armor is the balance.
As Cleric you're not allowed to wear heavy armor, why? because in order to wear heavy armor you need lots of str wich is totally useless to casters and by wasting points on str you won't be able to keep the min requirement on your mag that let's you use weapons of your lvl.

You have two choices when it comes to armor: Robes or Light Armor.
To wear light armor and the weapon of your lvl you need: 1str, 1dex and 3mag each lvl
To wear robes and the weapon of your lvl you need: 1str and 6mag every 2 lvls, the rest of the points you can either put them on vit to get more hp or your mag to get highter attack and mana.

Another option is to use Robes for armor, and phys def jewelery (except Ring).

All smart Clerics that wear robes should use phy def belts and neckleces and all smart LA Clerics should use elemental belts and neckleces.

wht if they r not smart? lol b:laugh

i wuld suggest goin with arcane robe instead of light armor cause u will hav more points available to put into vit (if u want more hp) or to mag(if u want more atk power nd more healin). like others said, i wuldnt advise u to go with heavy armor cause it will reduce ur magic def aswell as ur atk power

LA build is meant for PvP. If you're not interested in PvP then LA would be a bad choice.
Oh and my hp is 2400 now at lvl 66 so hp is not a problem at all for LAs.

Heavy armor would be a very bad idea, in my opinion. The only magic-based class that should ever use heavy armor is a venomancer at endgame :P, so 90+.

And about using phys def shards, I would have to disagree. HP shards do me wonders. I survive much better than my "phys def shard" cleric counterparts.

I would use arcane as well since you seem to be full mag.
Looking for a decent casual understanding Faction.

The problem with going Heavy Armor is that you'll run out of skill points FAST. You actually need more skill points to wear heavy armor and use a magic weapon that fits your level, than your level gives you.

Going arcane is usually the better choice for a cleric, as it allows as many stat points as possible to be put into vitality and magic once the basic need for strength is covered. Light armor is a possibility to round your defences (this can be combined with arcane armor parts, though, to boost elemental resistances). But heavy? Very, very very bad idea unless your only plan is to hit on monsters that walk up and punch you.

If you have an issue with physical monsters, then invest in Plume Shell. It reduces a LOT of the physical damage you take, especially on higher levels, and usually lasts plenty of time for you to heal up and kill the monster attacking you.
