Blacksmith Level 4, Quest: Step 2, Sawtooth Blades

Hi,
I tried 4 times to manufacture 2-star Sawtooth-Blades, but every time I only get 1-star ones. So I could not finish Quest "Step 2" and upgrade to blacksmith-level-4.
It now costs so many mats and I didn't want to try it again and maybe fail again.
Is it really a question of being unlucky, or am I doing something wrong?
Please help!
Thanks

It's all luck whether you get one, two, or three star items. I hated doing the blacksmith because I had to make the pataka about ten times. All I can say is keep at it, you'll get the 2-star blade eventually.[SIGPIC]http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/image.php?type=sigpic&userid=968287001[/SIGPIC]

Depending on your luck, it may be best to just buy them. They look expensive (100k-300k depending on your patience/luck) but when you add up all the mat costs you blew, it probably would have saved you in the end.
Just something to consider.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~0 -
I hope somebody can confirm or deny this but I have heard that if you talk to Duke blade he can tell you wich blacksmith NPC is more likely to do your 2 or 3* weapon.
Since it is 300k everytime you talk to him. Even expending 3k to increase your chances of getting your weapon should be worth it.0 -
so it really is possible to buy the 2 star weapons instead of sitting there and crossing your fingers, hoping they will come out randomly?
i wasn't sure if it had to say you manufactured the weapons in order to complete the quest or not. if i could just buy them everyone's just made my day b:victory0 -

RIDICULOUS!!!
Having read the above, I went to the Boutique and purchased the 2-star dragon orbs (which advertise a 100-percent success rate).
My 3 weapons are still at 1-star. I feel totally ripped off. This just isn't right. Shame on PWI!!![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
First off, Dragon Orbs only help in REFINING equipment not crafting it. There is no cash shop item that increases the number of stars on equipment or increases the chance of making 2-star/3-star gear.
As for Duke Blacke. There was a thread kicking around on the crafting board with all the theories and people's experience with him. Some people swear by him and others think it doesn't work. Best to read the thread and decide for yourself.
I can confirm that you can use bought 2-star gear for the manufactoring quests. All my manufactoring skills are level 6 except for apothecary which I left at 5 since my faction doesn't own any land. The gear for the level 3 quests usually go for at least 200k in the AH since everyone knows what they're used for. However, you can sometimes find the 2-star equipment needed for the level 6 quests for cheaper since less people know which ones are used for the quests. I, personally, bought several of the 2-star equips needed for the level 6 quests from the AH for around 50k-100k each.0 -

Please excuse my utter stupidity. Quite naively, I was taken in by the 2-star requirement for the weapons and the "two star" guarantee for refinement.
I'm still unsure whether I understand this distinction, and I wonder why PWI didn't choose a less conflicting way of demarking the difference. Alas, to my pea-brain, a 2-star weapon is, by any other name, a 2-star weapon. I guess I'll need to spend countless more hours pawing my way through these forums in search of other vagueries relating to this much-undocumented game.
This is looking very much like another of those games where too much emphasis is placed on shear luck.
Addendum: I actuallly love much about this game -- the friendships, the challenges, the virtual reality of it all. What I detest, however, is the seemingly purposeful obfuscation of instruction. Frankly, for something as straightforward as "crafting" a 2-star weapon, there should be no reason to consult a forum for clarification on how to do it. Moreover, having spent countless hours hunting raw materials for weapons manufacture, I see no particular reason for making failure of the proper weapons so arbitrary.
I believe my confusion about the Dragon Orbs is reasonable. I'm also more than a little upset over having thrown away six mirage celestones and Boutique gold because PWI did not properly explain the quest within the context of the game.
So much about Perfect World is marvelous, but I'm wondering why the developers did only half the work, failing miserably at documentation.
My rationale for this conclusion is simple: whenever players are compelled to research third-party sources for fundamental answers to game play, the developers have failed competely. I understand PWI has evolved over several years, across multiple languages; but instead of excuses for shoddy, highly deficient documentation, game maturity and linguistic barriers bode for more thorough in-game direction, clarification, and explanation of the myriad of detail and arbitrary nature of the game.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
I just did my Blacksmith Quest yesterday... I got 2 stars on my first two items my first try... then last item took about 6 tries, but I did get a 3 star out of it as well....
This game has a lot of levels to it, and I find myself looking things up on google all of the time... but that's normal for a game like this... if it was too easy, I think it would get boring really quick...
I came from a different game where tradeskills were 100X more of a pain than with PWI...0 -
The item description of a Dragon Orb(2 star):
100% chance to successfully increase an item's refinement level by 1.
Can be used to make higher rank Dragon Orbs at a Jewelcraftsman.
Maximum refinement level: +2
It says nothing about crafting an item just refinement. No "2-star guarantee". Notice that some equipment has a +1 or +2 next to its name. That is the refinement level. The higher the refinement level the better the stats of the equipment. The number of stars on the equipment is a separate issue all together. You can increase the refinement level, but not the number of stars.
EDIT: Also, this game is one of the more decently documented mmorpgs out there. There's a good beginner's guide on this site that explains a lot of the features of the game.
